Hi Brian,

On my system the /usr/local/nagios/var/rw directory has permissions
drwxrwsr-x. This is the only difference I can see between my system and
yours.

Regards,
Guy.

2010-06-09 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi Assaf,

Have you restarted nagios lately?

Have the permissions on the pnp4nagios files (or the directory they reside
in) changed?

Has anything changed in nagios.cfg that might affect this?

How are you running pnp4nagios? Synchronous mode, bulk mode or bulk mode
with NPCD? Are the nagios perfdata files being populated correctly etc.?

Cheers,
Guy.

I'm definitely no expert but...
* What does it say when you 'ldd' the nagios binary? Are all the libraries
the binary is linked against able to be found? Are those libraries
up-to-date?
* Where did you get nagios from? Did you compile it or is it pre-built? If
pre-built, are there any updates?
* I don't know Solaris well enough to know how to trace your running nagios
with a very simple configuration, but that might be the next step. strace?

 Subject: [Nagios-users] SIGSEGV when trying to use eventhandler

  Hi guys,
 I am new to nagios but so far it's working well for me and is
 monitoring a number of real and virtual hosts. Nagios 3.0.6 is installed on
 an OpenSolaris 2009.06 host and monitoring routers other devices and VM's in
 VirtualBox.

 My issue is when I try to add an event handler, I get a SIGSEGV and nagios
 restarts.

 I have posted the details of the code I am using and the error here...
 http://pastebin.com/vBb7xTND and also below (but it reads better @
 pastebin).

 I have tried several different scripts and code combinations (even empty
 scripts and commands like ls) and all give the same error.

 Can anyone help me work out why it's happening?

 Thanks.

 commands.cfg - note I have tried various scripts here incl. ones from the
 nagios guides/books and all give the same error.

  As you can see from the below, it all works fine (ie. no SIGSEGV's) if I
 comment out the eventhandler line from the hosts.cfg file.

  Sorry for my poor english. Tks in advance.

 Try using templates and hostgroups
 Templates will allow you to use a central base definition to the service
 or host .
 http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectinheritance.html

 you can assign a service to a hostgroup and thus all host in the group
 will have the service checked on them.

 http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectdefinitions.html#service

Also, using a web-based configuration tool such as NagiosQL (
http://www.nagiosql.org), in conjunction with things like templates,
hostgroups, servicegroups etc. can make life a whole lot easier. Doubtless
there are other web-based configuration front-ends for Nagios around as
well...

[Nagios-users] Plugin to check file for string?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a nagios plugin that will grep a file for a string?

I have a cronjob that logs output to a file and I basically want to grep for
'cronjob successful' in this file, alerting Critical if the string isn't
found and OK if it is.

[Nagios-users] Controlling contacts/contactgroups with hostgroups/servicegroups

2009-11-23 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi all,

I currently use host and service templates to add contacts for specific
hosts and services. For example, for most of my services, only the admins
need to be notified if the service goes down. For a few (critical) services,
however, additional people need to be notified if the service goes down. I
achieve this by adding an extra service template to these critical services
-- the extra service template has a contact_groups +critical-contacts
directive in it.

This works fine, except that I have to define extra services because of
this. For example, I run check_http service checks for a lot of hosts, but
only check_http service checks on some (critical) hosts need to have the
above 'critical-contacts' people notified if the HTTP service goes down. So,
I need to define one check_http service for all the hosts with normal
notifications and another check_http service for the critical HTTP
services. That's a simple example... I have a lot of contactgroups and a lot
of services, some of which are 'critical' services.

I've recently thought that it would be much nicer to control contacts
through hostgroups and servicegroups rather than templates. Because it isn't
possible to define contacts for hostgroups and servicegroups, I tried
creating a service template and having it as part of a servicegroup, and
having the critical-host,check_http service be a part of the servicegroup.
Unfortunately, it didn't work (i.e. the contacts for the service template
didn't get notified when the service went down).

Anyway, two questions:

* Is anyone out there using hostgroups or servicegroups to control
contacts/contactgroups? If so, how?

* Is there any other way (other than applying extra templates to
hosts/services to define extra contacts) that I can control
contacts/contactgroups like this?

Thanks...

 I set up an on-call rotation using service escalations. You could
 take this logic and simply add contacts to hostgroups that way.

 # secondary on call
 define serviceescalation{
hostgroup_name  z-allhosts
service_description .*
contact_groups  +secondary
first_notification  2
last_notification   3
notification_interval   30
escalation_options  w,u,c,r
}
 # tertiary on call
 define serviceescalation{
hostgroup_name  z-allhosts
service_description .*
contact_groups  +tertiary,secondary
first_notification  4
last_notification   0
notification_interval   30
escalation_options  w,u,c,r
}

 Hopefully this helps.

Thanks Terry, interesting idea, and I got most of the way through setting up
a test configuration before I realised that it's not quite the right
solution for me. I'd like to be able to specify particular services on
particular hosts, and to use service escalations to do that, I'd have to set
up a service escalation for each 'critical' service for each host. If I
could specify a servicegroup instead of a hostgroup in a service escalation
definition, it would be perfect, as I could set up a 'critical' servicegroup
that included all the 'critical' services and set up a single service
escalation :)

Regards,
Guy.

I haven't encountered it before, but my feeling would be to look for a file

If that doesn't help, you could try strace'ing the nagios process...

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios-NDOUtils_pointers.....

2009-08-05 Thread Guy Waugh
Hello,

Yup, just get the latest source tarball, untar/gzip it, and there's a README
file in there, plus some documentation in the docs directory. There's stuff
on the web too, google for it.

If you have problems, post to the list with the specific problem you're
having.

Guy.

[Nagios-users] Compiling nagios-3.0.6 on RHEL5-x86_64

2009-07-21 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi all,

I'm trying to get nagios-3.0.6 compiled on RHEL5-x86_64, and I can't get
configure to think that it's found a working libgd/libpng/libjpeg. Nagios is
working, but I'm trying to get NDOUtils installed (so I can install NagVis),
and to do that, I needed to recompile nagios with '--enable-event-broker',
which made me think that maybe I'll need the graphics stuff for NDOUtils
and/or NagVis (please let me know if this is incorrect).

I'm using this as my configure line:

export LDFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64
./configure \
--prefix=/usr/local/nagios \
--with-command-group=nagcmd \
--enable-event-broker \
--with-gd-inc=/usr/include \
--with-gd-lib=/usr/lib64

configure says:

(...)
checking for main in -liconv... no
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 1)... no
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 2)... no
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 3)... no
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 4)... no

*** GD, PNG, and/or JPEG libraries could not be located... *
(...)

However, I can see the following in config.log:

configure:5768: checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 1)
configure:5796: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/usr/include  -L/usr/lib64
-L/usr/lib64 conftest.c -lgd -lttf -lpng -ljpeg -lz -lm 5
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lttf

configure:5844: checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 2)
configure:5872: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/usr/include  -L/usr/lib64
-L/usr/lib64 conftest.c -lgd -lpng -ljpeg -lz -lm 5
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libz.so when searching for -lz
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libz.a when searching for -lz
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lz

configure:5921: checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 3)
configure:5949: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/usr/include  -L/usr/lib64
-L/usr/lib64 conftest.c -lgd  -lz -lm -lpng  5
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libz.so when searching for -lz
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libz.a when searching for -lz
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lz

configure:5998: checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 4)
configure:6026: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/usr/include  -L/usr/lib64
-L/usr/lib64 conftest.c -lgd  -lpng -lz -lm  5
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libz.so when searching for -lz
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libz.a when searching for -lz
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lz

It looks like it's finding the gd libraries but can't find libttf and
doesn't like the libz libraries in /usr/lib (that come from the 32-bit
package).

From what I can see, it looks like there isn't a libttf any more (its
functionality has been moved into libfreetype). However, why would it not
like /usr/lib/libz.(so|a)? How would I make configure try to use the
libz.(so|a) in /usr/lib64 rather than /usr/lib? And should I worry about the
libttf thing?

Thanks,
Guy.

Re: [Nagios-users] are host aliases mandatory ? (config check accept it)

2009-07-21 Thread Guy Waugh
Hello,

They may not be mandatory, but I think they are used in notifications -- for
example, if a contact for the host is to be notified by email if the host
goes down and the host does go down, the message says something like
'hostalias/ping is CRITICAL'. I may not be correct here... put in a dummy
host with no alias and see what the notification says.

Cheers,
Guy.

[Nagios-users] Fwd: Compiling nagios-3.0.6 on RHEL5-x86_64 -- SOLVED

2009-07-21 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi again,

I'm pleased to report that I've got past this hurdle. For some reason, the
server didn't have both the i386 and x86_64 versions of gd-devel,
libpng-devel, freetype-devel and libjpeg-devel installed, only one (and it
wasn't consistent as to which one either). How that happened, I don't know,
but it all works now that both versions of each of those packages are
installed.

Cheers,
Guy.

Re: [Nagios-users] Monitoring disk usage

2009-07-15 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi Juki,

As I understand it, you can either (1) 'hard-code' your NRPE checks in the
nrpe.cfg file on the monitored host (so that the checks are explicitly
defined), or (2) set up NRPE on the monitored host in such a way that you
can pass arguments in your NRPE checks. It looks like you're landing
somewhere between the two with your configuration.

I would either go the Option (1) way, having something like this in your
nrpe.cfg file on the monitored host:
*command[check_root]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w 30% -c 15% -p /
**command[check_var]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w 30% -c 15%** -p
/var
**command[check_server1]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w 30% -c 15%*
* -p /var/opt/BGw/Server1
**command[check_ora]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w 30% -c 15%** -p
/var/opt/mediation/ora*

, and then having services on the nagios host like this:

*define service{
use generic-service ; Name of
service template to use
host_name   emm4
service_description Root Partition
check_command   check_nrpe!check_root
}*

Alternatively, for the Option (2) method, on the monitored host, in
nrpe.cfg:

*command[check_disk]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w $ARG1$ -c
$ARG2$ -p $ARG3$*

, and a service example on the nagios host:

*define service{
use generic-service ; Name of
service template to use
host_name   emm4
service_description Root Partition
check_command   check_nrpe!check_disk!30!15!/
}*

I may not have the syntax in the 'check_command' of that last service
exactly right, but that's the general idea.

To go down the Option 2 road, you have to have configured the NRPE daemon on
the monitored host with '--enable-command-args', and have to have a line in
your nrpe.cfg file that says 'dont_blame_nrpe=1'. This is because allowing
command arguments in this fashion can be a security risk. The default
nrpe.cfg file has some comments that refer to this.

HTH,
Guy.

 Hello again,

 Thanks for the tips so far. Now some responses;

 On the monitored host, I have setup nrpe.cfg and therein I have set the
 option allowed_hosts=IP of monitoring server and also revised the format
 as shown below;

 *#specific commands#
 command[check_disk]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w 30% -c 15% -p /
 -p /var -p /var/opt/BGw/Server1 -p /var/opt/mediation/ora
 command[check_swap]= /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_swap -a -w 10% -c 5%
 command[check_procs]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -w 300 -c 400
 command[check_ssh]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_ssh -4 -t 10 -p 22
 localhost
 command[check_ftp]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_ftp -t 5

 *Then on the monitoring server, I have also setup the monitored host file
 (host.cfg) with the service description as follows;

 *define service{
 use generic-service ; Name of
 service template to use
 host_name   emm4
 service_description Root Partition
 check_command   check_nrpe!check_disk!15%!10%!
 }*
 *
 *After setting up all this, I refreshed the nrpe client on the monitored
 host and also restarted the nagios service on the monitoring server, this is
 after I checked that there were no errors whatsoever in the nagios
 configuration files. And yes, I logged into the monitored host as the
 nagios user and was able to verify that the check_nrpe command definition
 does run successfully.

 When I log into the nagios web GUI, I'm able to see the alerts, warnings
 and details for the check_swap, check_procs, check_ssh and for check_ftp.
 For the case of check_disk, I only see alerts/warnings and details only for
 the root (/) partition and NOT those for the /var, /var/opt/BGw/Server,
 /var/opt/mediation/ora.
 This is despite the fact that these partitions are defined in the nrpe.cfg
 file on the monitored host as shown above.

 This is still puzzling*

They should only be defined in one place. From those errors, it sounds like
NRPE on the monitored host doesn't have those commands defined, which
suggests that it's not reading your nrpe.cfg config file. I would check out
NRPE on the monitored host... do any checks on that host work at all? Is the
nrpe.cfg file in /usr/local/nagios/etc? Is either the NRPE daemon running or
xinetd is handling the NRPE connections? Is the host listening on port 5666?
Are the permissions on the nrpe.cfg file correct? What happens when you run
an NRPE service check for that host manually, from the nagios server?

If none of that give you any joy, post the nrpe.cfg file to this list if you
like, suitably obfuscated of course.

 You're still half way between the two approaches with your service

 Try this instead:

 define service{
 use generic-service ; Name of
 service template to use
 host_name   emm4
 service_description Root Partition
 check_command   check_nrpe!check_root
 }

 define service{
 use generic-service ; Name of

 }

 define service{
 use generic-service ; Name of

 service_description ora Partition
 check_command   check_nrpe!check_ora
 }

  When I log into the nagios Web GUI, the services for the ora, server1

 They should only be defined in one place. From those errors, it sounds
 like NRPE on the monitored host doesn't have those commands defined, which
 suggests that it's not reading your nrpe.cfg config file. I would check out
 NRPE on the monitored host... do any checks on that host work at all?

 Yes, indeed the checks do work. These have been run on the monitored host.
 See below;

 *bash$ /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w 30% -c 20% -p
 /var/opt/BGw/Server1
 DISK OK - free space: /var/opt/BGw/Server1 35606 MB (68% inode=97%);|

 /var/opt/BGw/Server1=16581MB;37990;43417;0;54272*

OK, so they look like checks run from the monitored host itself, right?

 Is the nrpe.cfg file in /usr/local/nagios/etc? Is either the NRPE daemon
 running or xinetd is handling the NRPE connections? Is the host listening on
 port 5666? Are the permissions on the nrpe.cfg file correct? What happens
 when you run an NRPE service check for that host manually, from the nagios
 server?

 Yes, the nrpe.cfg file is in /usr/local/nagios/etc with permissions;

 *bash$ ls -l /usr/local/nagios/etc/
 total 32
 -rw-r--r--   1 nagios   nagios  7871 Jul 15 14:21 nrpe.cfg*

 The NRPE daemon is running on the pid...

 *bash$ ps -ef | grep nrpe
   root 25866 14582   0 16:01:25 pts/4   0:00 grep nrpe
   nagios  1640 1   0   Jan 09 ?  49:38
 /usr/local/nagios/bin/nrpe -c /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg -d
   nagios  9702 1   0   Jul 09 ?   1:27
 /usr/local/nagios/bin/nrpe -c /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg -d*

Eek! How come there are two??? There should only be one nrpe daemon running.
You can see that the first one has been running since January. Kill them
both, with extreme prejudice, restart it and verify that there's only one
copy of the nrpe daemon running. This will probably solve your problem.

Guy.

I'm not a Solaris 10 expert, but... do you have two versions of NRPE

Any Solaris 10 people out there?

 I have killed them both, however, I can't seem to get the nrpe daemon
 running again on the monitored host (the OS is Soalris 10) . This is what I
 executed;

 *bash$ svcadm enable nrpe
 bash$/usr/local/nagios/bin/nrpe -c /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg -d*

 Then to verify...

 *bash-3.00# svcs | grep nrpe

 online 16:39:40 svc:/network/nrpe/tcp:default
 maintenance16:41:16 svc:/application/management/nagios/nrpe:default*

 And more verification...

 *bash-3.00# netstat -a | grep 5666*

 The netstat command above didn't return any output. So this means the NRPE
 daemon is either not running or not listening on port 5666.

 Am I doing the NRPE start up the right way? Are there other ways to start
 NRPE daemon on Solaris 10?

Re: [Nagios-users] Host Checks Service Checks

2009-07-14 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi Natalie,

You might need a 'check_command' for each of your hosts... like this:

   check_command  check-host-alive

The 'check-host-alive' check command would have to be defined, probably in
your commands.cfg file. The default nagios configuration defines this
command (I think).

This is where it's handy to use templates -- in this case, a host template.
You would define stuff common to every host in your host template (which you
might call 'generic-host'), and have a 'use generic-host' line in each of
your host definitions. That way, you wouldn't have to redefine the same
stuff over and over again for each of your hosts.

It might be worth spending an hour or two reading the official nagios
documentation at this point -- it could save you lots of time. The official
doc table of contents is at:

http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/toc.html

Cheers,
Guy.

[Nagios-users] Multiple contactgroups for a host through groups or templates

2009-07-08 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi all,

I'm seeking a way to be able to associate a contactgroup with a server, in
addition to the contactgroups that are already associated with the server
through a hosttemplate, such that if the host goes down, both contactgroups
are notified. As I outlined in a post to this list a couple of days ago,
I've been trying to do it by associating the host with a second hosttemplate
that has the contactgroup associated with it, but only the contactgroup
associated with the first hosttemplate in the list is notified if the host
goes down.

For example:

define host {
   host_name   doris
   use oncall-host,unix-host
   register 1
}

define host {
   host_name   oncall-host
   contact_groups   oncall-primary
   register 0
}

define host {
   host_name   unix-host
   contact_groups   +unix-admin
   register 0
}

When doris goes down, only the 'oncall-primary' contactgroup is notified,
not 'unix-admin'.

Short of manually associating the contactgroup with the host, can anyone
suggest a way I might achieve my desired configuration using groups or
templates?

Thanks,
Guy.

Hi Natalie,

I don't know the answer to Question 1... might be worth googling for.

In answer to Question 2, yum is, to quote from the first result of my google
search for 'man yum', an interactive, automated update program which can be
used for maintaining systems using rpm. Basically, yum is a system that
allows an administrator to download and install pre-built software packages
from a repository. So, yes, it has installed nagios for you, so you don't
have to compile binaries etc. However, it is nagios 2 rather than nagios 3.

Cheers,
Guy.

Re: [Nagios-users] Not able to compile CGIS

2009-07-03 Thread Guy Waugh
Hello,

It looks to be complaining about not finding GD library stuff... do you have
the 'gd-devel' package installed (if that's what it's called on Centos)?

Regards,
Guy.

Hmm... only other thing I can think of (without knowing where those unfound
functions are) is... is it 64-bit Centos? If so, do you only have the 64-bit
version of gd-devel installed?

Looking back at how I compiled nagios-3.0.6 on a RHEL5 x86_64 system, I
included these arguments to ./configure:

--with-gd-inc=/usr/include --with-gd-lib=/usr/lib64

Oh, I'm confused now... I missed in your first email that you're now only
compiling the CGIs... weren't they automatically compiled with your nagios
build below? I don't remember compiling the CGIs separately.

I'm not in the office now anyway so don't have access to my nagios server,
but if I can help you when I return to workland on Monday, I will.

Cheers,

Looking at your attached httpd.conf file, you seem to have configured the
URL '/cgi-bin/nagios' to be the ScriptAlias for the nagios CGIs, but then
you are trying to access them with the URL '/nagios/cgi-bin'. Provided the
Nagios CGI scripts are in /usr/local/nagios/sbin, as they are by default,
you should probably define your ScriptAlias like this:

ScriptAlias /nagios/cgi-bin /usr/local/nagios/sbin

 I noticed that after I inserted the snippets from the nagios.conf file into

[Nagios-users] Fwd: NDOUtils and Mysql libraries assistance needed

2009-06-25 Thread Guy Waugh

  Hi I am having trouble getting ndoutils to work
 during my install I found this information logged:

 You chose to compile NDBXT with MySQL support, but I was unable to
 locate the MySQL library on your system. If the library is
 installed, use the --with-mysql-lib argument to specify the
 location of the MySQL library.
 NOTE: After you install the necessary libraries on your system:
   1. Make sure /etc/ld.so.conf has an entry for the directory in
  which the MySQL libraries are installed.
   2. Run 'ldconfig' to update the run-time linker options.
   3. Run 'make devclean' in the NDBXT distribution to clean out
  any old references to your previous compile.
   4. Rerun the configure script.
 TIP: Try the following
  ./configure --with-mysql-lib=/usr/lib/mysql
 I have a question about step 1. When I more the file all it has in it is
 this information:

 [r...@nagios etc]# more ld.so.conf
 include ld.so.conf.d/*.conf

 My question is what is the syntax of the libraries I have no idea what to
 add into this file.
 Do I just add /usr/lib/mysql ?

The best thing to do would be to create a file in '/etc/ld.so.conf.d' called
'mysql.conf' that contains, as you suggest, one line thus: '/usr/lib/mysql'
(without the quotes). Then, proceed with steps 2, 3 and 4 above.

Guy.

Hi again,

Strange...

Some questions:

You're sure you restarted apache after editing httpd.conf?
What is the output of 'apachectl configtest'?
What files are in /usr/local/nagios/sbin -- are they files like
'status.cgi', 'avail.cgi', 'cmd.cgi' etc.? Are they executable by the user
that apache is running as?
Is there anything useful in the apache error logs?
What do you see when you go to http://nagioshost/nagios with your web
browser? Is that when you get the error below?
Is the nagios host a Linux or Unix host (sorry, can't remember if you've
specified this before)? If so, which flavour/version?
Did you compile nagios on this host, install it via a package manager, or
copy it from another host?

Cheers,
Guy.

 Looking at your attached httpd.conf file, you seem to have configured the

 you are trying to access them with the URL '/nagios/cgi-bin'. Provided the

2009-06-25 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi again Andrew,

OK, now that you've made it to the point where nagios (and apache) appears
to be working, it looks like it doesn't know about some commands, contacts
and contactgroups that are used in the localhost.cfg file. You could read
the nagios documentation, and/or try to find where those things are defined
on your old nagios host and bring them over to the new one. They might be in
files called 'commands.cfg', 'contacts.cfg' and 'contactgroups.cfg'.

Cheers,
Guy.

 lines to the nagios.cfg file that pointed to the location of the files
 that I brought over.

 I ran the preflight check again, and now I have the following appearing
 on-screen:

 I checked the /usr/local/nagios/etc/ and /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects
 directories, and each has a localhost.cfg file
 in it. The nagios.cfg file points to the latter as the one that it looks to
 for configuration settings. I checked through it,
 and there is no mention of admins anywhere. I also checked the services.cfg
 file in the same directory as localhost,
 with the results being the same.

 Where is this cause of complaint originating from, and how can I correct
 it? Thanks.

 I can answer your questions in the order they were asked:

 1. I made sure to restart apache after the changes were made via the sudo
 /etc/init.d/httpd restart command syntax.

 OK, great. Just making sure :-)

 2. The output of the apachectl configtest is the following:
 [Thu Jun 25 10:22:48 2009] [warn] The ScriptAlias directive in
 /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf at line 566 will probably never match because it
 overlaps an earlier Alias.
 [Thu Jun 25 10:22:48 2009] [warn] The Alias directive in
 /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf at line 583 will probably never match because it
 overlaps an earlier Alias.
 Syntax OK

 Right. This indicates that the configuration options for the 'ScriptAlias
 /nagios/cgi-bin /usr/local/nagios/sbin' and 'Alias /nagios
 /usr/local/nagios/share' on lines 566 and 583 of your httpd.conf file aren't
 taking effect. This is probably because there is a file in /etc/httpd/conf.d
 (possibly 'nagios.conf'?) that is being loaded before apache parses those
 lines in your httpd.conf file (see line 210 of your httpd.conf file:
 'include conf.d/*.conf'). Have a look at the file in /etc/httpd/conf.d and
 see what ScriptAlias and Alias definitions exist in that file. It might in
 fact make more sense to put the nagios web configuration in that file rather
 than in the httpd.conf file... though it's up to you. There should only be
 one definition for the nagios Alias and ScriptAlias definitions, and they
 should be as they currently are in your httpd.conf file.

 3. The files that are located in the /usr/local/nagios/sbin directory are
 the following:
 -rwxrwxr-x 1 nagios nagios 229964 Jun 24 15:48 avail.cgi
 -rwxrwxr-x 1 nagios nagios 225272 Jun 24 15:48 cmd.cgi

Re: [Nagios-users] - NRPE 2.12 ./configure error on solaris 9

2009-06-24 Thread Guy Waugh
So, you managed to compile NRPE on the Solaris 9 host? You've installed the
NRPE daemon on the host that the Nagios host is going to monitor with the
check_nrpe plugin? Are you running the daemon out of xinetd or standalone?
Does 'netstat -an' on the monitored host show that something is listening on
port 5666? What syntax are you using on the Nagios host to use the
check_nrpe plugin? Does the NRPE daemon configuration allow connections from
the Nagios host?

Also, what exactly do you mean when you say that check_nrpe is working fine
locally?

Questions, questions...

Re: [Nagios-users] REPOST: Problem in Preflight Check with commands.cfg

2009-06-22 Thread Guy Waugh
Hi there,

All I can suggest is:

1. cd /etc/nagios3/conf.d; grep -r check_dns * and see if the command
definition appears twice anywhere;
2. Vet your nagios.cfg carefully and make sure you're not inadvertently
including the same file twice, files from somewhere else etc.; and
3. Deleting the lines around the definition of the check_dns command, and
the command definition itself, and retyping it manually (to make sure no
strange characters have found their way in there somewhere).

You've probably done the equivalent of all those already, but that's all I
can think of...

Cheers,
Guy.

 Hi there--

 Check your configuration file(s) to ensure that they contain valid
 directives and data defintions. If you are upgrading from a previous
 version of Nagios, you should be aware that some variables/definitions
 may have been removed or modified in this version. Make sure to read
 the HTML documentation regarding the config files, as well as the
 'Whats New' section to find out what has changed.

 I checked the commands.cfg, and several other files, and I do not see where
 the
 duplicate definition is occurring.
 Can someone lend a hand on this? Thanks.
