[Nagios-users] nagios to monitor errors?

2008-01-10 Thread Mark Haney
Is there a plugin (or indeed, command) that will let nagios monitor
errors on a router or interface? One of our upstream providers (who
shall remain anonymous) has been having a ton of trouble with our OC-48
circuit. We want to be able to use nagios (or something) to monitor any
errors thrown by that interface and notify us when it happens.

Any ideas will be helpful.

[Nagios-users] notifications setup

2007-07-16 Thread Mark Haney
Is there a way to setup nagios to notify particular groups/users based
on the nature of the check? For example we have a temp/humidity monitor
that I want to be able to setup notifications to just our facilities guy
if the check_snmp output hits the CRITICAL threshold, but notify all of
my staff for WARNINGS. Is this possible?

[Nagios-users] check_snmp setup questions

2007-06-29 Thread Mark Haney
I have just setup a check_snmp service in Nagios v2.9 to be able to
check a new temperature/humidity sensor in our data center. I tested it
from the command line like this:

./check_snmp -H 192.168.0.16 -o .1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.3.3.1.6.0 -C
public -w 60 -c 71

And it works perfectly that way. However, when I set it up in Nagios
it's not working. Here's what I did. I setup a check command
definition like this:

#check_snmp_POP_Temp command
define command{
command_namecheck_snmp
command_line$USER1$/check_snmp -H $HOSTADDRESS -o $ARG1$ -C
$ARG2$ -w $ARG3$ -c $ARG4$

And in the host config file I have this:

 check_command
check_snmp!.1.3.6.1.4.1.16174.1.1.3.3.1.3.0!public!80!90

Nagios didn't complain about this during the preflight check, but when I
restarted it, I'm getting this:

check_snmp: Invalid warning threshold: %s

So obviously I've got something wrong in the setup. Can someone help me
out?

[Nagios-users] compilation error with RC2

2006-01-18 Thread Mark Haney
When trying to compile (I'm actually building a binary for RHEL AS 2.1)
I get this error:

new_mini_epn.c: In function `init_embedded_perl':
new_mini_epn.c:196: `PERL_EXIT_DESTRUCT_END' undeclared (first use in
this function)

new_mini_epn.c:196: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
new_mini_epn.c:196: for each function it appears in.)
make: *** [new_mini_epn] Error 1

This happens even when just compiling straight from source. Any ideas
on what's causing this?

[Nagios-users] compile 2.0.0rc2 error take 2

Okay, let's try this with another tack, does 2.0.0rc2 compile on systems
with perl 5.6? Or must it have 5.8?

Okay, let's try this with another tack, does 2.0.0rc2 compile on

systems

with perl 5.6? Or must it have 5.8?

Yes, just tested on RH7.3, Perl 5.6.1. I presume that you're passing

the

--enable-embedded-perl option to configure. Unless you'll be using a

lot

of Perl based checks there's not much benefit to enabling the

internal

interpreter. I think it's fair to say that most people don't need

it.

So how do I fix that? I've tried removing that from the configure
option, plus tried addind --disable-embedded-perl and I still get the
same error.

Try 'make distclean' then configure again.

Marc

That's all well and good, but since Im trying to build an RPM this doesn't
really help me. At least not while I'm building an RPM from a src.rpm. You
woulnd't happen to know how to make that work would you? I have tried rpmbuild
--clean after fixing the .sepc file, but it keeps failing on compile, even with
embedded perl taken out of configure. It still wants to compile the new_mini_epn.c
file and it fails every time, with

i386-redhat-linux-gcc -O2 -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 -I/usr/include
-DHAVE_CONFIG_H -L/usr/lib  perlxsi.o mini_epn.o `perl -MExtUtils::Embed
-e ccopts -e ldopts` -o mini_epn

new_mini_epn.c: In function `init_embedded_perl':
new_mini_epn.c:196: `PERL_EXIT_DESTRUCT_END' undeclared (first use in
this function)

new_mini_epn.c:196: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
new_mini_epn.c:196: for each function it appears in.)
make: *** [new_mini_epn] Error 1

as the error. I'd be willing to bet that even if I tried to compile the
source directly it would still fail with this error. Could it be my
version of perl (5.6.1)?
