Bizarrely, I used ./configure --with-mysql-lib=/usr/lib and everything
worked fine.

I have found the issue. The RPMs from mysql do not contain the proper
shared objects. Installing MySQL from source solved the issue. I now
have NDOUtils, NagVis, and various other customizations running
flawlessly. Thank you all for the suggestions.

  I have been trying this for a day now and it is time to ask for some
 help. I have included the full
  output of the configure, as well as RPM output and directory
listings.
 Any help would be greatly
  appreciated. It seems that NDO cannot find what it is looking for in
 regards to mysql yet AFAIK
  everything is there. Please advise if something is missing, or if I
 should compile mysql from source, or
  any other fix. Here is all the relevant information I can think of
 this morning:

  ~/ndoutils-1.4b6 # ./configure --with-mysql-lib=/usr/lib/mysql

 Use the following make command:

 ./configure --with-mysql-lib=/usr/lib/mysql
 --with-mysql-inc=/usr/include/mysql --disable-pgsql

Look in the documentation for OLD PASSWORD - you can fix this error by
updating the access password using an old style password.

But now I am getting below error message

How can I resolve this problem? Which version of Mysql should I use?

What version of MySQL are you building it with? I'd have to be a pretty

You might try closing the ! in the service definition and putting
double quotes around the $ARGn$ parameters in the command file.

Any idea why this -a switch isn't working?

If I do this in a command prompt it works fine: ./check_http -S -H
url.com -a username:password it returns an OK.

The same command in nagios won't work (unauthorized).

Jerad,

No entirely, because you feed the arguments to the actual command with
$ARGn$

So in de service definition:

check_http!site.com!5!admin:password

And the command_line format in command definition (probably
in: /etc/nagios-plugins/config/http.cfg) should be:

command_line/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -H $ARG1$ -t $ARG2$
-a
$ARG3$

Be carefull with that -t 5 btw. That is a very low value to timeout.

Hope it helps.

Gerard.

  I didn't understand that either. That's why I customized the the

your

checks.

  Regarding the -a switch. The -a $ARG1$ (or whatever) should be in
your
  command
  definition. And your parms as you 'feed' them to the command in your
  service
  definition seperated with !.

[Nagios-users] Nagios monitoring limits: hosts and services

2007-06-08 Thread Mark.Law
I'm starting to get complaints from our Operations group that the Nagios
web GUI is getting slow. This is on a version 1.x Nagios server. The
server is monitoring 678 hosts and 3481 services organized in 29 host
groups. Most checks are done on 5 minutes intervals. I've gone over
all of the documented tweaks to improve performance. The hardware
seems adequate and isn't starved for CPU; loads seem reasonable;
although the Check Latency under the Performance Info screen
continually creeps up - currently at Max. 23 seconds.

Time to load the Status Overview screen: 8,5,6,6 seconds
Time to load the Status Summary screen: 42,35

I guess my first question is what do your uses expect in terms of
performance?
Am I missing the boat on something real basic here?
How many hosts/services do you manage per Nagios host?

Thanks in advance

2006-01-13 Thread Mark.Law
I have a true service cluster of 3 machines. At any given moment, only
1 service is running. I have built a cluster monitor, and it works
great. The problem is that for the cluster monitor to work, all 3
individual services (portmapper) need to be monitored. At any time, 2
of these are critical, but that is OK.

I'd like to be able to suppress the *display* of the individual services
and still allow the cluster monitor to function. A feeble attempt to
insert a register 0 for the individual service caused the cluster
monitor to report incorrectly.

Is there a way to NOT display a service check on the GUI, but still have
the check performed?

RE: [Nagios-users] Using SSH to run remote command checks

2005-12-22 Thread Mark.Law
Thanks for the reply .

Yeah, I'm running the command '/usr/bin/ssh -l nagios blah blah', works
from command line, no output. I have specifically logged into our
nagios site as the nagios user and run the test just fine.

I went so far as to create a small script on the target system that
writes out a timestamp when it is called - again, works from the command
line, not from nagios, in fact, from nagios, the log file never gets
written. Did a tcpdump - no avail.

Is there some more verbose logging that can be turned on that will
capture *everything* happening during nagios tests?

Thanks,
Mark

 Subject: [Nagios-users] Using SSH to run remote command checks

 I tested the following command from the command line ~

 /usr/bin/ssh -l nagios host1 chkAdminServer.pl

 and it returns OK with an exit code of 0. Great.

 When I put it into the following service definition, I get a Status
 UNKNOWN with STATUS INFORMATION (No Output)

 define service{
   namecheck_adminserver
   service_description AdminServer
   use hg.prod.check_5min
   hosthost1,host2
   contact_groups  systemgrp
   check_command
 check_command_ssh!/path/to/perl/script/bin/chkAdminServer.pl!
 }

 The check command definition is really simple also ~

 define command{
   command_namecheck_command_ssh
   command_line/usr/bin/ssh -l nagios $HOSTADDRESS$ $ARG1$
 }

 I have checked permissions, log files, verified public keys on the
 remote server, everything I can think of - but it continues to fail.
In
 fact, it appears that the command isn't even attempting to run. Any
 ideas?

The majority of the time this happens because people run their tests as
root or some other user who does not have the same access levels as the
nagios user. Did you perform your test as the nagios user? My first
suspicion is that the host key hasn't been accepted for that host for
the nagios user.

You can also try changing your command definition to make sure nagios is
calling ssh and in exactly the way you expect it is with --

define command{
  command_namecheck_command_ssh
  command_lineecho /usr/bin/ssh -l nagios $HOSTADDRESS$ $ARG1$
/tmp/ssh_exec
}
