on (/usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/commands.cfg):

define command{
command_name check_bacula
command_line $USER1$/check_bacula -H $HOSTADDRESS -d $ARG1$

What do I have to do to get it working?

Subject: [Nagios-users] stopping and starting NDO daemon

Hi All,

We've just setup nagios 3 using NDO (to support Nagvis) and I realized
that NDO does not come with an init script. I found one post to the list
(http://article.gmane.org/gmane.network.nagios.user/52477/match=ndo+init
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.network.nagios.user/52477/match=ndo+init )
from about a year ago, someone was asking for help incorporating the NDO daemon
into the Nagios init script, but there were no responses. I'm wondering how
others are handling the stopping and starting of the NDO daemon? Would it be
better to incorporate it into the Nagios init script or should it have it's
own, has somebody already done this that is willing to share with the list?

Thanks,

-greg

Re: [Nagios-users] problem with check_yum

2009-04-02 Thread Masopust, Christian
Hello Seth,

I think that's not related to Nagios or check_yum. I had the same problem on
one of my servers
when running yum check-update from cmd-line. On one of my machines the yum
upgrade
was already running and the other one insisted on being up to date :-))
A few hours later and after playing around a little with repositories
configured in /etc/yum.repos.d
also the second machine was aware that it has to be updated..

Subject: [Nagios-users] problem with check_yum

I'm running nagios 3.0.6 and using check_yum on my red hat/centos boxes.

Today I've had all my centos boxes show yum warnings about needed
updates; found out centos 5.3 was released.

I have one red hat 5.2 box. The problem is, check_yum within nagios
shows 'o/s is up to date' as of last check (10 min ago).

If I run it manually from the machine, it gives a warning that updates
are needed (verified through yum and rhn).

How can nagios be reporting that yum is ok when it isn't?

Hi,

I have come to know that there is a situation in Solaris machines
called Ok Prompt where the machine can be pinged but not accessed as it is
hung.

Can you tell me the best check to deploy in such a situation? I decided
to use check_ssh but unfortunately solaris 8 servers do not have ssh installed
by default.

What could be another alternative in such a scenario?

Kindly help.

Thanks in advance :-)

Hmm. Not much cheaper at all , once you've bought either the PC plus
serial/parallel adapter or their ethernet adapter (at $259) to connect the
temperature sensor.

If you need remote sensing then the websensor devices are really not
bad value.

Hi all.

I am looking for a sensor to monitoring the temperature in our server

Does anybody do it ? How do you do it ?

Which sensor do you use ?

I see on www.nagios.org http://www.nagios.org/ the Websensor EM01B,
but it is quite expensive ..

Does it work with Nagios 1.4 ?

Many thanks

I tried to get NDOutils 1.4b3 running with my Nagios 2.9 installation
on Solaris 8 and run
into the following problems:

1. error during compile: Solaris 8 doesn't provide the SUN_LEN macro,
so i copied it from one of
my Linux - systems --- compile ok.
2. error during linking: Solaris 8 doesn't provide strtof. I found
the source for strtof on www.koders.com
and added it --- link ok
3. i changed nagios.cfg to add the ndomod-2x.o and restarted nagios
(before i started ndo2db) and
i get an entry in nagios_instances and in nagios_conninfo that it's
connected, but nothing else
no entries for service-checks, no configuration, nothing

so i googled around and find out that i also have to activate
event_broker_options so i did
(set it to -1) and when restarting Nagios it stops with a
segmentation fault...

any ideas what i did wrong?

thanks a lot,
christian

[Nagios-users] host not found when receiving SNMP-Trap

Hi all,

in my nagios-event-log i'm getting the following entries when receiving
SNMP-Traps from a RAID-System:

but the host atpcc7fc-2 is configured in hosts.cfg

hosts.cfg:

define host {
use generic-host

alias EonStore-2
address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

services.cfg:

define service {

so, what could be the reason why Nagios doesn't recognize this host?

 Hi all!

I prepare a very simple check (called check_fax) that read a
 text file.

If check_fax find an OK it will return a status 0, if
 check_fax find a
CRITICAL it will return a status 2.

Well, when I run manually check_fax (like nagios user or root
 user) it work
correctly (returns 0), but when Nagios run check_fax, it
 returns a status 2.

I try to modify check_fax permissions like:
 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root sys654 Mar 16 09:42 check_fax
 -rwxr-xr-x 1 nagios nagios 654 Mar 16 09:42 check_fax
 But nothing has been changed.

 Here it is the check_fax:
 --
 #!/bin/csh
 #
 set dir2 = /tmp

 set STATUS = `cat $dir2/Invio_Rice.log | grep -c OK`

 if ( $STATUS == 1 ) then
echo FAX OK - Invio e ricezione di prova avvenuto
 $dir2/Rice.log
echo FAX OK - Invio e ricezione di prova avvenuto
 else
echo FAX CRITICAL - Invio e ricezione di prova NON
 avvenuto
 $dir2/Rice.log
echo FAX CRITICAL - Invio e ricezione di prova NON avvenuto
 exit 2
 endif

 exit 0

Subject: [Nagios-users] web-based configuration interfaces for nagios

I'm current migrating a nagios system I originally set up over three
years ago to a new server with the latest version of nagios. The
current system has around 140 host entries and is running over 1000
service checks and is linked with apan for graphing performance data.

What I'd *like* is to have a web-based interface for adding hosts to
the new system with a sort of inheritance-based system for templating
so that I can create objects along the lines of:

A is a basic server with
a set of service checks that apply
a set of dependencies between service checks
a set of external links to apan (or some other graphing tool)

B is a server of type A in datacentre 1
inheriting all of the configuration for A
plus an additional set of service checks
plus an additional set of dependencies
   etc...

C is a server of type B that is a webserver
inheriting all of the configuration for B
plus an additional set of service checks
plus an additional set of dependencies
   etc...

X is an instance of server type C
inheriting all of the configation for C
   plus some host-specific config.

Y is an instance of server type C
inheriting all of the configation for C
   plus some host-specific config.

Do any of the existing web-based configuration tools support this sort
of system? Are there any in active development that come close and
might be modified to suit? (Language is mostly irrelevant -- perl,
PHP, C(++), Java, python -- if I can't already code in it, I'll learn,
though I might draw the line at VB :))

Hi Toto,

if you plan to switch over to Nagios 2.x i would suggest to
use "fruity" (fruity.sourceforge.net). It only supports
Nagios 2 but you could prepare your configuration for
Nagios 2, install Nagios 2 and then switch over to it
(this is what i did this week...)

 Hey everyone.

I'm having a problem with pNSClient on a Windows 2003 Server.

I'm quite aware of the fact that there is only mentioning of 2000 and
XP hosts to run the service on in the documentation, however, I
managed to get it running on 1 2003 host (german language) but not on
another (2003 english with multi-user-interface set to german).

It seems to install the service fine, but whn I try to start it, the
process is aborted and the application event log shows this entry
 (Sorry it's in german..)

 Fehlgeschlagene Anwendung pNSClient.exe, Version 2.0.1.0,
fehlgeschlagenes Modul unknown, Version 0.0.0.0, Fehleradresse

I don't seem to find any hint on which counter.defs definition it
tries to apply, and I'm guessing it has to do with the MUI, but would
anyone have a suggestion on how to resolve this? Or are there other
plugins for 2003 servers that I missed looking for a windows
