Re: [Nagios-users] check_openmanage on ESXi 5.0

2013-05-16 Thread Werner, Robert
check_openmanage doesn't seem to work with ESXi 5.x . Anyway, there is
another plugin is use for this purpose:
http://www.claudiokuenzler.com/nagios-plugins/check_esxi_hardware.php

it allows me to get the same checks I was getting through open manage from ESXi
hosts and it works on several different vendors hardware. The only
difficulties I've had are that the CIM service stoped working the other day and
I had to restart it.

You do need to have a valid user and password to connect to the ESXi server.

Check it out though.

Subject: [Nagios-users] check_openmanage on ESXi 5.0

Hello,

I'm using nagios with the check_openmanage plugins to checks my ESX servers
running on Dell PowerEdge R710.

The plugin working fine whith my ESX on version 4.1 but my problem is that I
recently upgrade it on VMware ESXi 5.0.0 Update 2 and then check_openmanage
plugin return this error:
ERROR: (SNMP) OpenManage is not installed or is not working correctly

I install OpenManage 7.0.0 on my ESX 5.0 (I follow this steps):

Steps to install OpenManage.
1.Downloaded OpenManage VIB from Dell
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/g_5/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=N3R0HFileId=2773322235
2.Uploaded VIB to ESX host and placed in /var/log/vmware/
3.SSH to host as root
4.ran command esxcli software vib install -d
/var/log/vmware/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-6.5.0-542907.VIB-ESX50i_A02.zip
5.After software install, I rebooted the host.

And nothing better... SNMP works and respond to standards OIDs, my check is set
with the correct SNMP community name.

I have no idea of where can be the problem...

Thanks if you have a solution for my problem.

If so, ever come across this issue before?

Everything works fine apart from 1 server and 1 check.

1 particular Windows 2008R2 server replies its CPU usage as a crazy percentage:

[12-05-2012 14:47:35] SERVICE ALERT: XX;CPU USAGE;CRITICAL;HARD;3;CRITICAL

[12-05-2012 14:41:35] SERVICE ALERT: XX;CPU USAGE;CRITICAL;SOFT;1;CRITICAL
- CPU busy 233016.89%

When I check the server the CPU isn’t even using 10% most of the time.

It does this from the terminal aswell, with nagios user and also root user.

Anybody have any ideas as to what can cause this please?

Many Thanks

Since several months we are using the Dell Openmanage plugin from

working fine untill the last couple weeks.

For some servers we are getting the following results back:

I noticed this only happens when 1 of the drivers is out of date. Is there a
solution for without directly updating the firmware (which is already planned

I'm running Firefox on Linux and when I dug into this, the helper app that
actually is supposed to play the wav file was getting a permission denied
because it didn't use the cookie that the browser has setup to authenticate the

I think the easiest way for me to fix this is to move the files to some non

change this to a non secured directory in the config.

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a check_http test for a web server but am having
some difficulty.

I can do the test using curl from the command line but I want to know
if I can do it with the check_http utility.

This is what it looks like using curl
curl --data-ascii
version=1mineLogin=atp_...@mine.comminePassword=testing
https://stage-mine-tto.mine.com/api/cclookup
Returns:
{result:SUCCESS,ccid:18711}

I've tried this but it does not work.
./check_http -H stage-mine-tto.mine.com -a atp_qa1:testing -u
https://stage-mine-tto.mine.com/api/cclookup
Returns
Connetion refused
HTTP CRITICAL - Unable to open TCP socket

I might be going about this the wrong way. Is there a way to send an
ascii string to a URL using check_http or some other Nagios tool? If I
sent just a string to the URL which is basically all I'm doing with
curl it should work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Robert

strings and regular expressions, check connection times, and report on
certificate expiration times.

Usage:
 check_http -H vhost | -I IP-address [-u uri] [-p port]

2012-02-29 Thread Werner, Robert
To get that kind of info over snmp you probably would have to write a script
because the check_snmp only pulls one oid at a time.

However there already are plugins that will do exactly what you want:
http://nagios.manubulon.com/index_snmp.html

I use these to monitor diskspace. Read the instructions on that page for how

Hi,

I've got some strange issues with a web application, where it loses
connectivity at a certain time each night. After a bit of investigation, I
think that this might be related to network congestion. i.e. the backups are
taking up all of the available bandwidth and as a result the web app
connections time out.

I'd like to use a plugin to monitor the amount of bandwidth which is being used
by the server as a whole to see if it is ever saturated. e.g. if bandwidth
remains at 90% of 1Gb/s send a warning

Does anyone know of a plugin which would allow me to monitor this?

Thank you
Serge

Besides of course the Spooler Service, you should also monitor the Windows
Event Log.
I've experienced a lot of driver issues on an old Windows print server which
temporarily caused the affected printer(s) to appear as 'offline'. Such
problems appeared in the event log as Warnings with the message content
something about the driver. That was on a Windows Server 2003, but I think such
driver problems are still logged to the Event Log.

I query the windows performance counter for number of print jobs
spooling. If a printer breaks then usually this counter starts
ramping up quite rapidly as more and more print jobs get stuck in the
queue.

For example, the [external alias] section of your nsc.ini (assuming
you use NSClient++), you can have:-

alias_CheckCounter-PrintQJobs=CheckCounter Counter:jobs=\Print
Queue(_Total)\Jobs ShowAll MaxWarn=250 MaxCrit=500

Then your service definition would look something like this:-

define service {
   host_name printserver1,printserver2
   service_description PrintQJobs
   use srv-pnp,generic-service
   check_command check_nrpe!-c PrintQJobs
   max_check_attempts 6
   check_interval 15
   retry_interval 5
   contact_groups notify-admins
notes Records the number of Active
Jobs on a Print Server
   register1
}

And the command definition I use is just a generic one for any nrpe
check like so:-

define command {^M
   command_namecheck_nrpe
   command_line$USER1$/check_nrpe -H
$HOSTADDRESS$ -u $ARG1$
   register1
}

Our servers aren't quite as recent as Windows 7, but I guess the
counter would still be the same.

I hope that helps.

Re: [Nagios-users] monitor printer from Windows server

2011-12-01 Thread Werner, Robert
I've had good luck using System.Printing from Powershell and then running the
scripts from NSClient++.

I just wrote the PowerShell Scripts to use the standard nagios plugin status
codes.

I used the following links to develop the PowerShell scripts:
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/PrintServerManagementps1-7676ed28
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.printing.aspx

If there is interest, I'll ask my boss about sharing the PowerShell scripts.

One quick guess: do you have the perl-devel rpm installed?
