[Nagios-users] dBs available for NDOUtils

2009-03-17 Thread White, Richard L
The NDOUtils manual posted on the Nagios website is about two years old, so I
have a question for this group.

The manual states that MySQL is the only dB that is supported. Is this still
true?
I'm hoping that someone has ported this to Oracle.

Nagios server.

Depends on your use. If you're using check_by_ssh or NRPE with SSL,
then no, the transport between the nagios server and the remote server
would be encrypted.

If you need a more specific answers, provide more specific information/
scenarios.

I'm new so forgive a dumb question...
Is the resource.cfg on the monitored system or on the Nagios server?
If it is on the Nagios server, will the information be sent in plain text to
the monitored system?

You can use the resource.cfg file to store credentials, which is a secured
file. Credentials can then be passed as variables to service definitions such
as $PASSWORD1$ and it will pull the actual password string from the secured
resource file.

All,
in commands.cfg or in service definition file we have to enter password
community string and such. I was wondering if there is any way to encrypt that
or setup a system where those information relayed to nagios process in the
memory and there is no way to access them? Please advise on this. Thanks

[Nagios-users] newbie question

2009-02-26 Thread White, Richard L
List,

I just finished installing Nagios 2.10 on my RedHat Linux system.
I'm new at web stuff but after some digging was able to log into the
application.

I have not changed any of the default cfg files except for the contacts one
listed in the quickstart directions and pointing the authentication to the
correct password file.
It looks like I should be monitoring my localhost, but I do not see hosts or
services displayed in the viewer.
Do they only show up when they are bad?

On most screens I get the message similar to this one:

"It appears as though you do not have permissions to view information for any
of the hosts you requested...
If you believe this is an error, check the HTTP server authentication
requirements for access this CGI and check the authorization options in your
CGI configuration file"

Is this because the files it is looking for do not exist yet?
Do I have a permissions problem?

Any help you can provide will be appreciated!
