[Nagios-users] scheduled downtime nagios.cmd

2011-12-29 Thread Jeremiah D. Jester
I'm attempting to integrate a downtime schedule script I downloaded from
nagios.org into my installation
(http://exchange.nagios.org/directory/Addons/Scheduled-Downtime/Downtime-Scheduler/details)
 The script is supposed to write downtime information to the nagios.cmd file
and disable the referenced host. However, when I tail nagios.cmd I am unable to
view any processed commands. Interestingly enough the command DOES show in my
nagios.log file so it appears that it is processing the command.

[1325186243] EXTERNAL COMMAND:
SCHEDULE_HOST_DOWNTIME;monk;1325186100;1325187540;1;7200;Nagios;Test

The problem is that I don't believe the host (monk) is being disabled despite
having the start time already occurring in the past. I've validated this test
by disabling nrpe on the client.

[1325186247] SERVICE ALERT: monk;MEMORY STATUS;CRITICAL;SOFT;1;Connection
refused by host

Any input would be appreciated!

David,
Not sure if this is what you're after but I've written a python script that
monitors RX and TX bytes received on all active adapters. It's a more of a per
adapter usage summary report than anything. Tested and working on RHEL and
Ubuntu.

Re: [Nagios-users] pnp4nagios?

2011-04-14 Thread Jeremiah D. Jester
Thanks Benny.

I've configured pnp and it has been successfully graphing data since the actual
installation. However, I have nagios perfdata logs from the past year
(host_perfdata.log, service_perfdata.log) that are not being parsed that I want
to be included.

Currently my nagios.cfg is using the following commands:

define command{
command_nameprocess-service-perfdata
command_line /usr/bin/perl
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/libexec/process_perfdata.pl -d
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/service-perfdata.log
}

define command{
command_nameprocess-host-perfdata
   command_line /usr/bin/perl
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/libexec/process_perfdata.pl -d
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/host-perfdata.log
}

Is there a certain method, configuration I need to follow if I want to include
this historical data?

Thanks,
JJ

Any thoughts to why this isn't working? Email notifications for other

 shift doesn't appear to be used in the init script in the tarball. Are

 modified the init script from it's default?

 Is nagios running? Does a stop and then start work correctly?

Hello,

I have a working nagios2 installation under Ubuntu. I would like to
configure nagios so that when a host cannot be ping'd by nagios all other

I'm thinking i want servicedepency directive in my dependecies.cfg file?
Does this sound about right?

[Nagios-users] ping dependency

2009-06-22 Thread Jeremiah Jester
For some reason I'm having a hard time understanding exactly how
dependencies work.

What I'm trying to do is create a service dependcy that will halt
notifications of any number of servers file if that host cannot be pinged.

Can anyone assist?

Here is the required basic syntax of a basic servicedependency definition in
nagios2.

code
define servicedependency{
  host_name
  service_description
  dependent_host_name
  dependent_service_description
}
/code

Much appreciated,

Jeremiah

[Nagios-users] nagios2: failover

2009-06-15 Thread Jeremiah Jester
Hello Nagios Users,

I'm attempting to setup a second nagios server up to do failover monitoring
in case my primary nagios server goes down.

Running into a odd problem in talking to the nrpe daemon on the master
server.

When I run the following cmd prompt, nrpe does not allow me to connect from
the new host even though it is specified in the master nagios server
nrpe.cfg file.

SLAVE$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.10.10.41 -c check_load
Connection refused by host

However, when i run the same cmd for another host, it returns successfully.

SLAVE:~$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.10.10.43 -c check_load
OK - load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00|load1=0.000;15.000;30.000;0;
load5=0.000;10.000;25.000;0; load15=0.000;5.000;20.000;0;

**Note thta the IP for the nagios failover server IS listed in the nrpe.cfg
allowed_hosts directive and the nrpe daemon has been restarted.

Any insight on this issue? I am running Nagios 2.11.

Thanks,
JJ

Re: [Nagios-users] nrpe script

2008-11-03 Thread jeremiah
Hi Andy,

Thanks for the email. I wish this would have worked! Here's what i
did...

-I added the sudo command in my nrpe.cfg file and ran it like you said.

command[loadscript_check_error_log]=/usr/bin/sudo /usr/local/bin/python
/home/jesterj/report_loadscript_error_log.py

-Restarted the nrpe service.

$ /etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server restart
 * Stopping nagios-nrpe nagios-nrpe
[ OK ]
 * Starting nagios-nrpe nagios-nrpe

- Reran the check_nrpe command on the server:
/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.10.10.45 -c
loadscript_check_error_log

NRPE: Unable to read output

- I then tried adding nagios to the /etc/group (admin group)
 on the client and running it again.

Still failed.

What a tedious problem.

 Try running your command as the Nagios/NRPE user on your NRPE host
 like
 so (alter path to sudo as appropriate):

 # /usr/bin/sudo /usr/local/bin/python
 /home/jesterj/report_loadscript_error_log.py

 If this works, make sure that the path to your sudo executable is the
 absolute path in nrpe.cfg.

Problem resolved!

Even though i removed the sudo command from my commands file it was
uncommented and active in nrpg.cfg file.

Does this make sense to you? Seems like it could output a better error
message than NRPE: Unable to read output?!

#command_prefix=/usr/bin/sudo

Thanks for all yiour help!

  Nagios itself is just a daemon. The only reason for apache is for
 the

  Does nagios need apache to run or is it possible to run as a daemon?

[Nagios-users] nrpe script

2008-10-31 Thread jeremiah
Hi folks,

I have another question for you all that i haven't been able to resolve.

I want to run a python script on my monitored hosts using the nrpe
command.

On my server I am running the following command:

# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.10.10.45 -c
loadscript_check_error_log

Every time i run the command above then i get the following error:

NRPE: Command 'loadscript_check_error_log' not defined

On my monitored hosts, I've specified the corellary command
in /etc/nagios/nrpe.cfg, then restarted the service.

# command[loadscript_check_error_log]=python /home/username/script.py

Am I missing something? Does the command[loadscript_check_error_log]
actually have to be a valid plugin in the plugins directory or am I
defining the action of running the script in this file?

Note: This is the only command in my config that is not working for me
so unlikely a service issue but rather something wrong with my config.

Thanks!

JJ

Re: [Nagios-users] nrpe script

2008-10-31 Thread jeremiah
When I typed python on the command line it drops my into the python
interpreter.

Regardless, I went ahead and specified it in the command:

command[loadscript_check_error_log]=/usr/local/bin/python
/home/jesterj/report_loadscript_error_log.py

now when i run the check_nrpe command from the server I get could not
run command.

$ sudo /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.10.10.45 -c
loadscript_check_error_log

Could not run command

Thoughts?

I just chown'd the file for nagios.

$ sudo chown nagios /home/jesterj/report_loadscript_error_log.py

$ ls -la *.py
-rwxr-xr-x 1 nagios jesterj 3156 2008-10-31 21:55
report_loadscript_error_log.py

I'm now getting a different error after i fixed the path issue.

$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.10.10.45 -c
loadscript_check_error_log
NRPE: Unable to read output

Thoughts?

Re: [Nagios-users] nrpe script

2008-10-31 Thread jeremiah
I just pulled this error up in the manual and it sasy the following
about the error: NRPE: Unable to read output

=
This error indicates that the command that was run by the NRPE daemon
did not return any character output.
This could be an indication of the following problems:

-An incorrectly defined command line in the command definition. Verify
that the command definition in your NRPE configuration file is correct.

-The plugin that is specified in the command line is malfunctioning. Run
the command line manually to make sure the plugin returns some kind of
text output.
=

I ran the command via the command prompt and works fine w/ returning
output.

Hmmm.

Re: [Nagios-users] nrpe script

2008-10-31 Thread jeremiah
Mathieu,

Thanks for your ongoing help.

I check the log file and this is all i'm seeing pertaining to this
command on the server.

Oct 31 22:33:23 serv1 nagios2: SERVICE ALERT: serv2;LOADSCRIPT CHECK
ERRORS;WARNING;HARD;3;NRPE: Unable to read output
Oct 31 22:33:23 serv1 nagios2: SERVICE NOTIFICATION:
root;serv2;LOADSCRIPT CHECK ERRORS;WARNING;notify-by-email;NRPE: Unable
to read output

Also, the command runs successfully when ran on the cmd line from my
home directory or the plugins location.

Changed debug=1 on the client and restarted in nrpe, reran the command
and don't see anything related to nagios in /var/log/messages?

Thanks,
JJ

  Thoughts?

 /home/jesterj/ is probably chowned to 700 anyway so the NRPE daemon
 won't be able to access and execute it anyway.

 Try running it manually with sudo to see the actual result:
 sudo -u nagios /usr/local/bin/python
 /home/jesterj/report_loadscript_error_log.py

 Also, you should copy your script in a more appropriate location such
 as
 /usr/local/bin or even /usr/lib/nagios/plugins if you have installed
 Nagios on a Debian or Ubuntu server.

 You can also try to start NRPE with debug=1:

 How to go about debugging other problems...

 When debugging problems it may be useful to edit the NRPE
 configuration
 file and change the debug=0 entry to debug=1. Once you do that,
 restart
 the NRPE daemon if it is running as a standalone daemon. After you try
 using the check_nrpe plugin again, you should be able to see some
 debugging information in the log files of the remote host. Check your
 logs carefully – they should be able to help provide clues as to where
 the problem lies...

[Nagios-users] check_load issue

2008-10-16 Thread jeremiah
My check_load service keeps on giving me the following error.

Warning threshold must be float or float triplet!

However, when i run the command from the system it works just fine.

./check_load -w 10.0,8.0,5.0 -c 15.0,10.0,8.0
OK - load average: 0.01, 0.02, 0.00|load1=0.010;10.000;15.000;0;
load5=0.020;8.000;10.000;0; load15=0.000;5.000;8.000;0;

My services.cfg file looks as such..same values.

check_command   check_load!10.0,8.0,5.0!15.0,10.0,8.0

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
JJ

Re: [Nagios-users] check_load issue

2008-10-16 Thread jeremiah
I checked my commands.cfg file and noticed the command wasn't defined so
I went and put this in there...

define command {
command_namecheck_load
command_linelibexec/check_load -w $ARG1$ $ARG2$ $ARG3 -c
$ARG4$ $ARG5$ $ARG6$
}

However, when i restarted nagios it told me the command was already
defined. So, i then commented it out and restarted..it started but still
the same error/problem: Warning threshold must be float or float
triplet!

Thoughts?

JJ

I found this..

File: /etc/nagios-plugins/config/load.cfg

define command{
command_namecheck_load
command_line/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_load --warning=

I've been using an older nagios book but just ordered up the apress

 There's the problem.

 You should either modify your check_load command_line to:

 /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_load --warning=$ARG1$ --critical=$ARG2$

 Or change your service check_command to:

 check_load!10.0!8.0!5.0!15.0!10.0!8.0

 but not both.

 Also, read the docs regarding service/command definitions and macro
 usage.

 The problem isn't actually with your contacts.cfg, it's just that
 you're
 missing the commands that are referenced (I know, it can get
 confusing).

 Is commands.cfg anywhere in your nagios.cfg? In a default install,
 that's where these would be defined.

 The answer is right in front of you. You need to define these
 commands.

 In fact they should be listed in one of your sample configuration
 files.

 Which sections of the manuals did you use to find an answer to this
 question?

 Hugo.

[Nagios-users] Status.cgi Question

2008-03-22 Thread Jeremiah Millay
Does anyone know the variables I would need to pass to status.cgi to be
able to view all problems in one page (host and service combined)?

Right now all service problems can be viewed by sending this to status.cgi:

status.cgi?host=allservicestatustypes=28

All host problems can be viewed with this:

status.cgi?hostgroup=allstyle=hostdetailhoststatustypes=12

I'm basically just trying to create a link for All Problems and All
Unhandled Problems in the nagios menu. That way someone who is watching
nagios doesn't have to click between two pages.

If anyone has done this with their setup or knows how to do this the
help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jeremiah

[Nagios-users] please help with ignored service checks problem...

2006-11-22 Thread Jeremiah Coleman

I've been having a problem with some service checks not being run and
not being rescheduled. For example, at 11:06:37, the scheduling queue
will shoe these services with N/A for the last check, and the next check
in the past. I get no messages in the log whatsoever regarding these
checks. I can run the commands as nagios in shell with no problems.

If someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong or give me an idea what to
look for, I'd much appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

The checks are listed in objects.cache and status.dat:

objects.cache:  command_namecheck_disk_smb
objects.cache:  command_line$USER1$/check_disk_smb -H $HOSTADDRESS$
-s $ARG1$ -W  -u  -p  -w 2G -c 1G

status.dat: check_command=check_disk_smb!users
status.dat: check_command=check_disk_smb!data
status.dat: check_command=check_disk_smb!data1
status.dat: check_command=check_disk_smb!data2

[Nagios-users] Problem with nagios skipping check_rpc checks

2006-11-10 Thread Jeremiah Coleman

I have a nagios system I recently set up, and everything is working
fine, except for check_rpc checks. For some reason, the schedular seems
to be skipping the checks, and not rescheduling them. I get no error
messages that I can find in the logs. All other checks run as they
should.

The relevant portions of the configs:

define command{
command_namecheck_nfs
command_line$USER1$/check_rpc -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -C nfs -p
2049 -t
}

check_rpc is in the directory pointed to by $USER1$. All the other
checks have the same directory. I can run this check command line no
problem at all.

define service{
use generic-service ; Name
of servic
e template to use
host_name   kraken,luna,zeus
service_description NFS
is_volatile 0
check_period24x7
max_check_attempts  4
normal_check_interval   5
retry_check_interval1
contact_groups  admins
notification_optionsw,u,c,r
notification_interval   960
notification_period 24x7
check_command   check_nfs
}

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,
Jay
