[Nagios-users] check_rdiff/NRPE problems

2008-03-20 Thread zack kenton
Hi list

So I've built a new backup server, and therefore working on nagios checks for
all the backups. Everything is working fine, except check_rdiff (which used to
work fine on the previous backup server). Im getting the infamous NRPE:unable
to read output from the monitoring server. However, I know how its supposed to
work with entries in the sudoers file, /usr/bin/sudo before the command in
nrpe.cfg, because I had it working on the old backup server. Also, when I su to
the nagios user, I ran the exact same command as is in nrpe.cfg and it returns
successfully. Any ideas as to why the remote monitoring host cant receive the
output. (Not a firewall issue either because all other check work) Thanks in
advance.

[Nagios-users] Checks arent frequent enough

2007-12-28 Thread zack kenton
Hi list

Will probably seem like a stupid and/or easy question, but my checks arent
frequent enough. I have a disk health check and it told me there was a bad disk
on a server one day after the server crashed from this bad disk. I know this
has to do with normal check interval and retry check interval. Take for example
normal_check_interval 300...where is it defined that 300 is seconds and not
minutes? And is retry_check_interval the amount of time it checks after a
failed check? Should i prioritize my services and comb through each one and set
the important ones to every minute and less important ones to like once or
twice a day. Just trying to get a better grasp on the whole check frequency.
thanks

[Nagios-users] Smart UPS SNMP?

2007-10-26 Thread zack kenton
Hi list

I got a perl script off of the exchange which checks the health of an APC UPS
through SNMP. Now running it from the command line like ./check_snmp_apcups -H
hostname -C community it works wonderful, so I know the snmp agent is running
on the UPS. However, when I run from within nagios, I get a warning return of
SNMP agent is not responding, but I know its up and running? Any insight?

Re: [Nagios-users] Smart UPS SNMP?

2007-10-26 Thread zack kenton
Hi Hari

Unforutnately the nagios user has no problem runnign the script from the
command line, and I believe that the proper IP of the UPS has been provided in
service definition. The snmp agent on the UPS just doesnt seem to like nagios.
Could it be some sort of environmental variable?

2007-10-09 Thread zack kenton
Hi list

So I apologize for the duplicate posts, not sure why it was happening. However,
this will be my last posting if in fact duplicate posts occur. Now to my
problem; the standard check_mailq and the check_qmailq (found in the contrib
directory of plugins) both run on the local hosts and return mail queue ok, no
queued emails, etc...but when running from the nagios machine with nrpe, they
both return errors, along the lines of: Error code 111 returned from
/usr/bin/mailq or CRITICAL: Keine gueltigte Antwort (Zeile #1) von
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-qstat (its a german plugin apparently) but translated
means bad answer from line 1 in qmail-qstat...has anyone run into these same
problems...and forgive the duplicates ahead of time...I wont post with this
email after this

Hi board

Do you guys really think I come back onto here and re-post the same message
over and over again? I am not doing this intentionally so all the emails
telling me to stop reposting are a waste of time. Perhaps its a problem with
the list, since I'm not the only it's been happening to. Ease up fellas,
obviously its not an emergency for me to fix a simple little email problem, so
I'm not consistently posting to find out the answer

Hi list

So when something is critical and/or warning I get an email obviously. However,
in the date/time and additional info fields I just get a $ instead of any
useful information. In my previously working version of nagios it would give me
the date/time stamp and additional info would say exactly what was wrong. Does
anyone know how I can format this? Thanks

Hi Arno

well i did a major upgrade from 1.4 to 2.9, but kept the majority of the
confiuration files...so the misccommands.cfg and command-plugins where the
notification commands seemed to be defined are identical...it could just be
some problems with the different versions?

[Nagios-users] (Return code of 9 is out of bounds)

2007-09-28 Thread zack kenton
Hi list

Does anyone have an idea why I would get (Return code of 9 is out of bounds)
with my perl plugin. I know of 123 and 127 numbers, but why would a 9 return?

Re: [Nagios-users] turn off epn

2007-09-28 Thread zack kenton
Hi Andreas

So what i needed to do was add the path to utils.pm within the perl plugin, as
well as add /usr/bin/perl...however, instead of no output I'm not receiving
return code 9 is out of bounds I've heard of 123 or 127, but does anyone know
what 9 means?

Hi Marc

So I've tried everyones methods. Putting perl directly into the command line of
commands.cfg, setting up a macros user with /usr/bin/perl, the environmental
variables are fine...I just dont think there is a way around embedded perl.

[Nagios-users] turn off epn

2007-09-26 Thread zack kenton
Hi list

i've installed nagios from an rpm package, which in turn enables epn, whish
isnt necessarily a bad thing...however, I had some scripts from my old version
of nagios that are not working now because of epn...is there anyway to tell
nagios not to use epn and use regular perl to read the script, because it works
from the command line
