This is always a good thing to review every 2-3 years or so.

My current favorites in the open source world are:

Netbox - https://github.com/digitalocean/netbox
NIPAP - http://spritelink.github.io/NIPAP/
ed - http://man.openbsd.org/ed ;-)

Give a few of the IPAMs out there a chance and just see which one
suits your operational procedures best! (Though, using a spreadsheet
file on a shared network drive is still not recommended.)

Kind regards,

Many options available -

1. DNSBOX - does IPAM, DHCP and DNS Management, thinking of those RDNS.

2. Infloblox - relatively same as (1) difference being cost

3. A couple of open source vendors - netbox, phpIPAM,

List never runs out - Solarwinds too has an IPAM feature.

Are you using it to help roll out IPv6? (i.e. dual stack is pretty much
mandatory) 4-10 space is "free", but I wouldn't test your luck by just
using the space like any regular allocation, plus it's just bad karma to
use that space outside of it's noble intention.

https://www.arin.net/knowledge/ip_blocks.html

If that's not your intent, you can pretty easily purchase a block for about
$5k US from Hilco Streambank, assuming you have pre-approval from ARIN for
a transfer.

I’ve bought through ipv4marketgroup in the past. Easy to work with, but
you’ll want to do your own scans of the address space to make sure it
hasn’t been burned yet.

AT&T Res Fiber Chicago contact?

2018-06-10 Thread Brandon Ewing
Howdy,

I've been struggling for a few weeks trying to identify whom to speak to at
AT&T regarding pre-wiring of fiber in our small (6 unit) HOA. I know the
fiber is on the pole (it lists our address as in the service area), but I
cannot get the service installed without impinging on other units.

I'd like to work through the HOA to set up a new easement alongside the
existing phone and cable currently running through all the units, but have
not had any success with the multi-family unit form at AT&T (I think it's
designed for large apartment buildings), or through the customer support
apparatus.

Seeing as how my current choices are bonded aDSL and Comcast, adding a 3rd
party would be extremely advantageous to the HOA and provide turnkey access
to the rest of the residents.

If someone knows someone at AT&T who could assist, I would be extremely
appreciative.

I like the idea of using a quarantine network by default with a captive portal
assistant to permit certain levels of access if needed.. fairly easy to setup
on LAN and WiFi networks with no problem.  Just depends on what you are trying
to secure- easy to set up audits with MAC tables and SNMP data either way.

I’ve got an easy way to do this, I confiscate ‘em ;)

As others have said, this is a management problem.  Untrustworthy parties
shouldn’t have physical access to your trunk ports.

That said Layer 2 MAC ACLs should block everything and allow only your switches.

Also do you have lit trunk ports just floating in space?   You shouldn’t...

Carrier Ethernet Interoperability between Juniper and Ciena

Anyone out there creating carrier Ethernet services terminating services on one
end with Juniper and the other end with Ciena?
The particular Juniper platforms we are looking at are the ACX5000 series
and/or MX204. We already deliver an end-to-end Ciena solution for our
customers with their CES (3000/5000) platform.
