This is not a new thing. I was a headhunter for about nine inglorious
months back in the late eighties and it was absolutely rife then. That
was the heyday of IT consulting/contracting (in Australia at least)...

Have seen this happen to at least five people I know.

And this is why I always tell people to:

1) Use a PDF (it makes it harder, they at least have to copy/paste text
and do some re-formatting).

2) Ship or attach a PGP or other crypto signature (not that anybody
verifies them). I personally have been known to mention that the resume
should be signed/have a signature available in a quick quip where I also
mention experience with basic end-application crypto systems in the
resume. Recruiters often fail to remove that reference when they modify it.

3) Offer to "send a fresh copy" of the resume at the earliest
opportunity in engaging a hiring manager.

4) Always bring multiple hard-copies as well as the PDF on portable
media to interviews.

The hiring managers hate the recruiter-modified BS resumes as much as
the interviewees do. This goes double when it's been modified to the
point that the qualifications stated bear little to no resemblance to
the original ones stated. That just wastes everyone's time.

I made the mistake of posting a resume from a link on linkedin, luckily,
with a google voice number, but unfortunately, not with a burner email
address.

I had 11 missed calls yesterday because for now I am keeping my phone on
silent. I mean, for f's sake, just send me an email.

So annoying. Thanks for reaching out, but if I don't pick up on the first

The effing annoying thing is when the calls start at 6:00 am because
they can't be bothered to read the top of your resume which says

Hi Javier,

I probably got 5 like it this week. Only counting the ones that got
detailed about network infrastructure. And I'm not even looking for a
network engineering job; I want to write network software.

So yeah, dime a dozen, no need to share with Nanog. Post a resume to a

Per Michael Valentine Smith 127.0.0.1 should work.

This also has the benefit of working over IPv6 (::1) without violating
the ineffibility Karl referred to.

Although, technically, since many gods are omnipresent, shouldn't you
just be able to send the packet to any address and it will be
received? I'm not clear on the implementation details as I would
assume the gods would need to be in promiscuous mode for that to work
and I'm pretty sure that would pose a problem for some gods that are
said to be omnipresent...

Not sure about all the Fry's, but the Sunnyvale store has "re-imagined"
itself (no longer has rows upon rows of 8' shelves, they are now all
about 5' tall, so you get a more open store experience) and no longer
has quite the amount of rack stock on display it once had. I presume

2010-01-14 Thread Forestal, Andre Jr.
Thanks all for the quick responses. Got what we needed.

for clarification:
This website does not involve any donations at all. It is simply a bulletin
board application that allows US based relatives to post name, last known
location of people in Haiti whom they can not get in touch with. Since there
is still internet access available in Haiti via satellite, there are people in
Haiti who would frequent the list and post a response if they happen to know of
the whereabouts of someone listed on the site.

once again thank you all.

I'm not sure if it relates to this site, you didn't provide a link to
the report about 1and1
actions but the FBI is very active tracking many sites and hundreds of
domains that
are popping up in several places after the quake and that are a scam.

I'm not saying this site is legit, but just starting with the name it
sounds very suspicious.

I second the recommendation to support the Red Cross or other well established
relief organizations.

If you are willing to provide a contribution another option is

RE: Contact @ 1And1 hosting re: http://www.koneksyon.com/ - URGENT

2010-01-14 Thread Forestal, Andre Jr.
I completely understand, however this website went up since yesterday morning,
way before anything else of its kind went up, and there were already thousands
of entries and folks were already relying on it as a mean to locate loved ones.

It is certainly not a substitute to the registry that the Redcross has in
place, but it has already helped relatives track each other.

I am simply appealing to this community as a way to get through to 1And1.
That's all.

Thx

Sorry for the noise .. Got me a (personal) box that has a borked grub
after an OS upgrade.

Need to get somebody there who can just go in, probably fix
/boot/grub/menu.lst to say the right thing, run grub (maybe boot in
with a live cd, mount and run grub.. you know the drill)

Is anybody in or near Sherman Oaks LA who can help fix this? Please
email ASAP, I'll hook you up with the person who can get you access.

Sorry for the urgent - that box has been down for over 24 hrs now.

I think you are correct. While i still don't see this /16 in my
routing tables, I can now reach both dot. and flag.

I can assure that this wasnt the case since this past friday.

that's definately not the issue. Something is working now that didnt
previously. Someone at isi fixed something and did'nt bother to either
acknowledge, and report the problem. But that's probably
too much to expect.

Cheers,

Carlos.

I'm not sure that 198.32.0.0/16 was ever advertised. EP.NET runs a
registry for exchange points and other people that Bill feels like
helping out and assigns from that number range; since the /16 covers
many varied applications and organisations all over the planet, it
seems unlikely that a /16 would do anything useful.

I have no problems reaching FLAG.EP.NET (198.32.4.13), DOT.EP.NET
(198.32.2.10), both of which live in subnets numbered from
198.32.0.0/16 and administered by EP.NET directly.

A quick RIS query suggests that none of the RIS probes have ever seen
an advertisement 198.32.0.0/16.

insight or assistance, please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There are a number of prominent DNS servers numbered within
198.32.0.0/16; however, for various reasons a noticeable number of
network operators take the position that all routes within that /16
are necessarily bogons, since it was originally designated for use in
numbering exchange-point fabrics and those blocks ought properly not
be advertised.

I take no philosophical position on any of that (it's far too sunny
and verdant here to form that kind of opinion here this afternoon),
and in a similar vein apologies for any historical inaccuracies I may
have inferred above. However, from a purely operational perspective,
you may want to check that the specific subnets of 198.32.0.0/16 that
you are interested in have not been filtered by your transit providers.

Congratulations: All 6bone prefixes are from finally out of BGP (Was: [urgent assistance] 198.32.0.0/16 - Disappeared...)

Congratulations, finally, after almost a year after the shutdown and
deprecation of the 6bone address space, returning it to IANA, all the
6bone prefixes are finally gone from the IPv6 routing tables at all
ISP's peering with GRH (which thus more or less gives a global IPv6 BGP
view)

Thanks Bill for finally(!) shutting down the machines that you where
still using for announcing these prefixes. This definitely shows that
everybody is done experimenting with IPv6, expect for the upcoming Great
IPv6 Experiment of course ;)

For the folks still using only IPv4: Remember that Geoff Huston and Tony
Hain have now aligned their prognoses for IPv4 Address Depletion: 2009
is the new date, so if you are not doing IPv6 yet, you better start
doing something about it, or you will be too late, and everybody who did
do something about it, is going to point and laugh at you while
ridiculing you saying "we told you so", which is going to be quite a lot
of fun :)

Greets,
 Jeroen

(only partially kidding, but it was time that 6bone routes finally
disappeared, he can resurrect the rest of ep.net though)

this is significant because any in-addr blocks that are authoritative @
