Not sure if it will help but you could try the "--optimistic-types=false" 
option.

I wanted to ask if there is any workaround for the memory leak described in
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8229011

Unfortunatly downgrading back to JDK8 is not an option for us.
