[neonixie-l] Latest clock - work in progress

2016-12-03 Thread Morris Odell
Hi all,

I got my latest clock to the wake-up stage today - a combination of a CRT
with the Four Letter Word. Still a way to go, but here's a look at it so
far.

Thank you for the kind words.

Microcontrollers are all the rage, especially with things like the Arduino.
In "real" products, they are just a fact of life. But these thermometers
are hobby toys, and you really want to see what's going on, instead of a
bunch of wires going into, and out of, a little "magic" black box.

You're right Nick about converting that BNC connector opening to something
like a mini phone jack, that takes some finesse, but the electronic piece
is pretty simple. I've done about 10 of them now. Here's a pic of my last
NixiSat endeavor. Got hold of one of the original green PCB's.

It's actually quite a fiddly job and you need the new firmware from somewhere...

Somebody got a decent deal there. Damage is minimal, a new acrylic top is
relatively cheap, and they can be upgraded to a conventional GPS puck
fairly easily.
