Probably chinese bargraph vfd tubes, they seem to be very rare. I've attached
some pictures of similar tubes.

RE: [neonixie-l] Nixies shown during “Air Disasters“ (S14, Ep7 on Smithsonian Channel) for Pan Am 103

2023-02-09 Thread Scott McInness
Oops, I mis-typed the percentage - it’s less than 0.04% of the episode.

Well spotted, Jon. That episode is more commonly known as s07e02 of “Air Crash
Investigation” or “Mayday”, which originally aired on 12 November 2009.

Assuming that, copyright-wise, one second out of a 42-minute show is no more
problematic than a couple of screenshots (it’s less than 0.4% of the episode),
here are the 22 frames (plus one additional frame retained either side). It
appears at ~36:26 in the episode.

The last third of this episode was about the Pan Am 103 in-flight explosion
investigation (the Lockerbie bombing). In the section where, a year or so
later, investigators identified the exact timing mechanism (by matching a tiny
piece of a circuit board found among the clothing from the Samsonite suitcase
they determined the bomb was in), they showed this Nixie display for a brief
second for effect.
