[neonixie-l] Re: [OT] AC frequency deviation in Europe

2018-03-09 Thread sonixie
Same situation here in Italy. I have three nixie clocks around home, we
realized that they were all delayed in late february. I told my wife that
there is a tight control of the grid frequency and if they realize that
they have given away too many pulses, they take them back. She could not
believe me. Actually, she was right. We had never experienced delays like
this. though. We were late at work because of this. Certainly 113 GWh
sounds like a lot of missing energy. Makes you wonder whether this is a new
kind of crime, stealing electric energy from power lines, besides stealing
oil from pipelines or copper from gutters, church roofs and electric
wires...

[neonixie-l] Re: red filter on tubes

2015-01-19 Thread sonixie
Hi,
Don't you need to bake this glass paint? At least on the Pebeo Vitrea 160 I
have seen, it says it is a water based colour that becomes water resistant
(dishwasher-safe) only after BAKING at 160 °C (325 °F).
Do nixies resist 160°C (and if yes for how long)

I did some experiments which were pretty successful - see my avatar on

FEV is available in a range of colours and works well - simple dipping is
fine and gets a good finish - you don't have to be too cute, i.e. spinning
etc. is not required - it coats and dries very evenly if hung upside down.

 HTH

Whatever people's feelings towards Ray in recent years (with respect,
please keep such comments off this thread) , Ray was instrumental in the
resurgence of worldwide interest in nixies, he invented the concept of the
FLW and designed other very nice clocks - at the end of the day, we all owe
him for all of that. It's sad that he's left us. RIP.
