No. And it appears that nmap -sV cannot identify Nessus.

# nessusd -a 127.0.0.1 -p 1242
All plugins loaded

$ nmap -sV -p 1241-1242 -v 127.0.0.1

Host localhost (127.0.0.1) appears to be up ... good.

1242/tcp open   unknown

And after editing nessus_detect.nasl so that it check 1242 instead of
1241 by default (in the Nessus framework, it will check every open
port if thorough_tests is on):
$ nasl nessus_detect.nasl

There's a problem with the nessus-fetch.rc file on the nessusd host. Other
than registering your feed, have you made any changes to it or copied it
from another host?

You must register / purchase a direct feed for each instance of nessusd
used.

number nor can I scan my nat using my ISP supplied address.

What sort of traffic do you see leaving your nessusd host? And reaching
the target(s)?

Have you contacted your ISP to see if there are any issues that might
prevent you from launching scans from their address space?

 I've just compiled nessus on AIX system (5.2) successfully but I can't

 So I wanted to connect the client without encryption and used certificat but
 it doesn't matter.

 Can you help me?

 FYI nessus is not supported on AIX. As a wise man once said Successful
 compilation does not imply that the program will work properly.

Again, supported and works are two different things. AIX is the only
platform I'm missing, and my RS/6000 machine should be here next week!
Then testing can begin.

I'm helping out the OpenVAS team and I intend on getting it to work on
AIX, Solaris, Gentoo, and for some odd reason, IRIX (hey, I like it).

Summary: keep poking it. Read the config/failure logs and don't give up.
That is the fun of it all.
