This is the first time I see anything about NetBSD not booting by UEFI if the
EFI system partition > 128 MB.

EFI system partition is activated before any OS is booted.

I read through the NetBSD wiki about UEFI booting, but where do I find
something more comprehensive?

There is some progress. The trick is the -N flag to newfs, which shows
plenty of super-block backups:

But even here, for each super-block listed, I got this result (of course,

Re: Booting from a USB disk

2020-04-27 Thread Vincent DEFERT
I've tried to install NetBSD onto another disk and it worked, so I made
further investigations on the disk having the issue.
I turned out it had a remaining zfs_member signature somewhere, which I
only saw after trying to recreate its partition table with fdisk under
Linux.
Once cleaned, the installation worked fine and the only manual operation
needed is to check /etc/fstab, and fix it if needed.

I have also installed NetBSD on a server (Dell R610) previously running
FreeBSD.
The problem I had there is that NetBSD does not support EFI partition
sizes greater than 128 MB.
In this case also, I had to wipe the partition table, but I could do it
with NetBSD's gpt(8).

A conclusion of this episode is that NetBSD works well, but is bad at
wiping disks. ;)

Fortunately, this is only needed at installation. :)

I guess I don't have hardware acceleration.
seeing Xorg log file I can say two drivers are loading specifically i965 and

tried to specify sna and uxa as the acceleration method in xorg.conf nothing

authentication scheme to share password between bozohttpd and asterisk

2020-04-27 Thread Mayuresh
I have a separate thread going on to setup webrtc with asterisk on
NetBSD8.

I have an existing website that uses stock bozohttpd on NetBSD. It uses
.htpasswd aka basic authentication. The passwords are stored using
blowfish encryption.

Whenever I open up use of sip/webrtc to users, as far as possible I don't
want them to be bothered with yet another password and preferably not even
ask to enter the same password when using the webrtc app.

Firstly asterisk doesn't seem to support blowfish. It supports md5, which
bozohttpd also does (I guess). So I may have to have all passwords reset
once - which is not so good, but acceptable. That may solve the `no 2
passwords' requirement.

But I'd prefer not to prompt for a password for asterisk if the user has
reached the landing page of webrtc app with basic auth. That seems
difficult, as browser will have to send the credentials to asterisk
directly. [I can possibly have a separate asterisk password which I can
return to the browser to let it send it to asterisk, but that may be
somewhat insecure.]

Never mind.

I experimented with sipml5 and jssip, both support conference.

Only (and big) problem I have now, when using jssip, is:

When I enable audio codec and no video codec in asterisk: audio works
perfectly fine.

When I add a video codec, no matter I keep audio codec or not: only video
works fine, no audio.

Still struggling to find whether it's asterisk side problem or JS side.
Suspecting it to be asterisk, but not getting any clue. Tried various
codecs, watched the console messages - if codec is not compatible it
reports, and taken care of using only the supported ones on the client.

With sipml5 audio works fine, video never did, at least for me.

Haven't tried sip.js. Seems a fork of jssip with some high end features
which I don't need. So thought of sticking to jssip. Also sipml5 / jssip
provided simple demo applications to get going, which helped. Didn't find
such quick help with sipjs.

So close to getting everything work, yet so far... Would appreciate any
hints whatsoever.

Well based on that output the inconsistent behaviour and crashing is
reasonable. You are playing an incomplete file. If the file is being
downloaded with a torrent tool that could also explain the choppy as
there could be incomplete data at various points in the file. Although
based on the .part extension I'm guessing its a web browser download.

That doesn't mean there isn't a problem with the xorg video playback but
it would be good to verify with a complete file.

No, I haven't changed anything else and no modules are listed in /boot.cfg.

Is there any chance it worked due to a side-effect of not loading modules?

I have previously tried: installboot /dev/rsd0a /usr/mdec/bootxx_ffsv2
(i.e. without the '-o modules') but it still had the 'Heap full' error.

So no modules loaded - and the installboot change was the only thing that
you changed?

Are there any modules listed in your /boot.cfg?

Something (and I have no clue what that could be) must have tried to load
modules, which then failed with the out of memory message. Now you have
inhibited module loading and it works.

However, nothing in a default install should cause modules to be loaded
this early (AFICT).
