Re: Thoughts regarding system-backups
More thoughts on "bacula". The thing is quite involved. I got the *pdf files downloaded. Is there a simple way to get this thing running? Do any of these programs (besides bacula) allow backup varification? Thats why I purchased bru 10yrs ago. NetBSD backup stuff has come A LOONNNG way since then :-) On Fri, Jul 30, 2021 at 3:41 PM Todd Gruhn wrote: > > I am playing with "bacula". Re: Thoughts regarding system-backups
I am playing with "bacula". I had no idea that it was so advanced, and widely used. My big thing is I need something to replace "bru" (I bought it around 2005). I needed to add binary-compatibility to the kernel config. Bru allows comparison so I dont get caught off-guard. I find the config stuff for bacula intimidating -- not used to the /bin/ksh stuff. I program mainly in PERL. I recall bru required me to make two named-pipes and set one device name in the config file... There's also the good ol' tar, but that's more for static backups. -- ~miko

Is it still maintained? It's written if Perl and depends on several modules, so it might not work forever... rdiff-backup had a similiar problem (it was stuck on Python 2), but it has been put back to life recently, so I would give that a try. -- Joern Clausen https://www.oe-files.de/photography/

BeagleBone Enhanced + NetBSD
Has anyone used NetBSD on the BeagleBone Enhanced? I expect it to work, but I am particularly curious about whether there is a working driver for the wifi. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. Cheers, Brook
Thoughts regarding system-backups
I acquired a 500MB disk from a lappy. Ideas for a package to do system-wide backups? Can I put the backup in a specific dir -- ORRR must I use the entire disk? Thank you
