RO4.39 r12147 and RO6.20 r12243, but I've now upgraded both machines to r12436 (downloaded via Firefox). Oddly enouogh, the problem has now gone away, not, I think, because of the NetSurf upgrade, because previously wget was affected but that, too, now downloads as expected. One of life's great mysteries... Thanks for the responses. Tony

At the moment, here, the problem is repeatable, when using NetSurf on RO4.39 or RO6.20. It apparently affects only www.netsurf-browser.org , and remains the same after re-starting NetSurf. However since wget is also affected, it seems that NetSurf may not be the culprit. Tony

On a Windows machine, Firefox 4 immediately connects to http://www.netsurf-browser.org/downloads/development/netsurf.zip and downloads the file, without problem. To me, this suggests that there is no issue with the connection, or DNS. However, using RPCemu, RO 4.39, running on the same Windows machine, launching the download link, in NetSurf, leads to Could not resolve host: www.netsurf-browser.org (Timeout while contacting DNS servers) and *ping www.netsurf-browser.org ping: unknown host www.netsurf-browser.org Using the RiscPC, RO 6.20, produces exactly the same results as RPCemu. Running on either RPCemu, or the RiscPC, NetSurf connects to other websites, eg BBC, The Register, The Guardian, etc, without problem. Moreover, all three machines are connected to the same LinkSys router, so that their settings are the same. How can www.netsurf-browser.org be hiding from RISC OS machines? Tony

I have had some failures to resolve host address with Netsurf recently. I am not sure whether it is Netsurf specific, but the failures cease when Netsurf is restarted. Since the urls are different, it is difficult to make a repeatable test case. -- Chris Johnson

(It can resolve the CNAME and the A record it points to using all available paths through root servers and name servers at Pepperfish.) This suggests a local configuration or connectivity ISP issue at your end. B.

Using NetSurf, the website times-out (but the rest of the net seems to work normally). wget also fails wget: unable to resolve host address `www.netsurf-browser.org' Does anyone else see a problem? I'm seeing something similar (on 2.7), in that when I'm logged in to my Orpheus webmail, if the session times out, then I can't login again, I'm just taken back to the login page, with the message 'Your session has timed out'. Deleting the cookies (is the 'Are you sure' second delete an accident, or intentional ?), and closing the window is not enough to restore access, only quitting NetSurf completely will restore access. Should I file a bug report ? :) -- Regards from Dave Lawton HTML emails are just a security risk, and nobody needs that.
cookie association with specific windows?
In recent NS builds (past several months) I've noticed a change in behaviour when logging in to our company bug tracking system. At one time I could go through the Login page and from then on I would be able to access the whole bug tracking database through its web UI. At some point that changed so that now, a) if I go through the normal Login process it fails to accept my credentials; b) I have found that by going through an alternative URL that throws up the Login page it results in success; c) even though I've logged in, when I open a new NS window by clicking on a link that should open a bug report (e.g. http://jira/browse/XXX-nnn), it tells me I'm not logged in; d) if I enter the same URL as in c) above into the window that was opened as per b) above, then it displays the page without any trouble. On the face of it, this looks like the cookie-stored login status is associated only with the window that was used for successful login. Is this expected? Do other people see similar behaviour? Should I file a bug report? I'm currently using the 2.7 release on VRPC-SA but this affects earlier releases and development builds. -- Mike Hobbs
