[newbie] USB 2

2005-04-11 Thread Pablo Ortuzar
Hello,

I'd like to know if I can connect an iPod to my computer. iPod uses USB2: how
can I know which USB is the one I have? Hardware identification gives this
for USB controllers:

Identification
Vendor: âVIA Technologies
Description: âVT82C586B USB
Media class: âSERIAL_USB
Connection
Bus: âPCI
Bus PCI #: â0
PCI device #: â7
PCI function #: â2
Vendor ID: â4358
Device ID: â12344
Sub vendor ID: â2341
Sub device ID: â4660
Misc
Module: âusb-uhci

And this for USB ports:

Identification
Vendor: âLinux 2.6.8.1-12mdk uhci_hcd
Description: âUHCI Host Controller
Media class: âHub
Connection
Bus: âUSB
Bus PCI #: â2 (*and 1 on the other*)
PCI device #: â1
Vendor ID: â0
Device ID: â0
Misc
Module: âhub

Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't have any insider info, but I was in the chat room when this was said.
I got the impression that security updates etc will continue to be freely
available. New material, possibly including major updates, will be confined
to club members. That's only my impression, though.

[newbie] Kontact Question (how to)

2005-04-11 Thread Mike Adolf

On a shut down I got a strange yellow screen, had to power down. On reboot I
had disk errors. I let the boot loader 'fix' them (with risk of lost data).
After reboot, some task icons and desktop icons were missing and Mozilla lost
it settings/bookmarks. I was able to recover OK except for Kontact. I have
two mail accounts. Prior to the 'crash' the new message/reply screen allowed
me to select the 'from' account from a drop down, now it doesn't. I browsed
the configuration panels but did not see anything related. All else with
Kontact works normally. Any ideas?

Mike

Lovell,

Try

urpmi xine-win32

and then use totem. Not 100% guaranteed, but worthy to give a try.

verify or change to get
this to work?

Right now when I double click on the .avi file xine launces and then it gives
me an unrecognizable
fuzzy picture that is majority blue color and without sound.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Francesco
I went through a series of problems and ended up starting x from the
command line. Everything seems to be working ok from there. It doesn't
start with mandrake display manager and switches to konsole login with kdm.
Googling showed that it had to do with the different login managers. Will
use as is. Thanks for responding.

Q1. Will the "Limited Edition 2005" distro be split into several flavors, like
Discovery and PowerPack? A download Edition (3CD available on public mirrors)
will be released?

A1. There will be only one version available through the Mandrakestore. Club
members will have access to several different versions, and there will be a
Download edition as before.

There will be one download free version per year, with additional material
available to club members.
