Instead of the traditional red, the company have used blue, white and yellow to reflect their footballing neighbours. And the restaurant's interior is themed on the history of Elland Road with the walls covered in photographs and other memorabilia.' --------------------------------- [16] Roeder tried to play down talk yesterday afternoon --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: "We're not in contact with Manchester United. I have a very good relationship with Paolo but have not felt it necessary to speak to him about it - nor has he spoken to me on the matter. In a nutshell, he was injured. He has got a tight hamstring that we could not risk against Leeds in case he damaged it to an extent where he would be out for a month. He is concentrating on rehabilitating his hamstring but unfortunately hasn't been able to come in today because our doctor has been round to see him and he is carrying a very heavy cold." Hmmm... --------------------------------- [15] Giggs on Di Canio --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: "Speaking of strikers, I've heard that United have been linked with a move for West Ham's Paolo di Canio. I've no idea at this stage how much truth there is in these rumours but I will say he is a player who I've got a massive amount of respect for. I think his greatest strength is that he both scores and creates goals in equal measure, which is not something you can say about every striker. He's a natural entertainer who also produces the goods and there's no doubt that on his day he is one of the best players in the Premiership to watch. Of course, whenever a player is linked with United there are questions about their ability to fit in at Old Trafford but I think di Canio would fit in anywhere in the world. He's one of those players whose technique and talent would grace any side and his ability to do the unexpected make him great entertainment value. We'll have to wait and see what happens, although if he did sign it would mean even fewer chances for me to play u! p front again!" --------------------------------- [14] Becks to delay new deal --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: According to the SUN and Custis - if so this means ti could go right to the wire...we think it will be signed but will the plc now wait... Cole gone, Yorke going, Di Canio, six games winning streak after a supposed 'crisis', Stam earlier - never a dull moment eh! The Sun ' DAVID BECKHAM will delay any decision on his Manchester United future until the summer following the latest snub by boss Alex Ferguson. The England captain, 26, will wait to see who takes over at Old Trafford before making up his mind — sacrificing £3million in wages on the way. It has been made clear to Becks he is no longer part of Ferguson's first choice midfield. Now he wants to know if Fergie's successor feels the same before committing his future to Old Trafford. Beckham has refused to sign a new deal after seven months of talks. He lost £1.5m in extra wages by failing to sign straight away and will lose another £1.5m between now and the summer. The two parties have agreed on a basic wage of around £80,000 a week, up from £25,000 a week. That would see his salary rise from £1.3m to £4.1m a year. However, Beckham's men want an image rights clause on top of that, which has proved a major sticking point.' --------------------------------- [13] Giggs hoping to be fit soon --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: "I felt a twinge in the hamstring towards the end of the Fulham game. I knew straight away it wasn't a major problem and the tests since have shown there is no new damage, but the manager thought it would be best not to risk aggravating it further by playing me in the Newcastle match. Basically, playing two games in the space of four days after being out for a month was asking a lot and I suppose the soreness in the hamstring was inevitable. The pitches at Everton and Fulham weren't ideal and it's obviously frustrating to be sidelined again after having just returned to the side. The good news, though, is that I'm still in contention for our FA Cup game at Aston Villa on Sunday. I'll see how the injury responds after training over the next two days but at this stage I'd say I've definitely got a chance of being available. As always, I'm not going to take the chance of making things worse, but it feels OK at the moment and if all goes well, I could figure. Whether I'd be asked to play as a striker with Ruud van Nistelrooy again remains to be seen. It's been great playing up front with Ruud and I've loved every minute of it. I played all my youth football at United as a striker so the switch isn't that alien to me and I'd relish the chance to do it again." --------------------------------- [12] Yorke to go --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: This from Neil Custis in the SUN - a very close 'pal' to Yorke and Cole. If he says it's happening, it is likely to be so. ' Yorke is off By NEIL CUSTIS DWIGHT YORKE is up for sale and will make a shock move to either Fulham or Middlesbrough. The two Premiership clubs were battling it out for the Manchester United striker's signature last night. Yorke, 30, has been told he can leave Old Trafford now United are close to landing West Ham's Paolo Di Canio as a replacement. A fee of close to £7million has already been discussed between Boro and United. But yesterday afternoon Fulham made contact and matched the fee.' --------------------------------- [11] You get the feeling Di Canio would walk on glass to play for us --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: His agent again "As a big player, imagine being a footballer at the end of your career and there is a big club like Manchester United that want you. I think almost every player would like to play for one of these teams once in his life and Paolo would love this opportunity. He would be proud to play for such a big club." --------------------------------- [10] Cuddly Pete quote on SKY yesterday --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: Kenyon "We're always looking for players and ways to strengthen our squad." --------------------------------- [9] Roeder gets on with Di Canio --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: Hmmm... "I've never had a minute's problem with him" and called talk of him missing games to get the move sorted as "rubbish". --------------------------------- [8] More from Di Canio's agent --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: The player now has a 'cold' and is doubtful for West Ham's cup game which would null the Cup tie eligibility and mean he's played his last game for West Ham IF the deal goes ahead as looks almost certain according to our snouts. If anyone shouts coincidence go lock yourselves downstairs. Roggi: "If something happens, it is likely to happen soon. Once the two clubs have finished their talks the situation may change." --------------------------------- [7] Roeder starts to admit defeat --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: Early rumours of Di Canio staying, whatever, until being Cup tied give fire to talk that the deal will be done next week - and it seems talk is growing that as long as 'Ammers fans lay the flak at the player himself rather than their club then the deal could happen soon. Roeder: "Our view is very much wait and see," he said. "As far as we are concerned West Ham and Manchester United do not have any agreement over the sale of Paolo di Canio. It's very unsettling for the player and for the club but it must also be very flattering for someone aged 33. It would be very difficult, nigh impossible, to say no to the opportunity [for Di Canio] to play for Manchester United. If it were another club it would be easier. People have got to realise that it would be virtually impossible to deny Paolo that opportunity." --------------------------------- [6] Di Canio's agent gives hint --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: Matteo Roggi, Di Canio's Florence-based agent "Manchester United are involved in negotiations with West Ham and something will probably happen. Mr Ferguson has always been a Paulo di Canio lover and people might think there is a vacancy because United have allowed Andy Cole to leave." --------------------------------- [5] Di Canio in, Yorke out --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by bar-knee: >From the Guardian and several other papers go with this - Dwight out for a good fee, >Di Canio in next week. It might help explain Yorke's body language on Wednesday... 'Manchester United are on the verge of adding Paolo Di Canio to their payroll, probably at the start of next week, after making Dwight Yorke available for transfer last night and instigating talks with West Ham about a £3.5m move for their captain. As Di Canio's advisers yesterday confirmed United were hoping to finalise a deal for the 33-year-old, the champions entered into preliminary negotiations with Fulham for Yorke. Middlesbrough are also interested, although financial constraints may scupper Steve McClaren's chances, with his chairman Steve Gibson having previously stated that no significant funds will be available for new players until next summer. ' --------------------------------- [4] Its ABU baiting time --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by redend: Time to give some of these gobby Scousers some hammer. Most of the activity has been on the http://www.rednews.co.uk/forum/ABU.php ABU FORUM recently although suddenly all the Scouse crowing has stopped and they've gone a bit quiet after collecting just 6 points from 6 games while United took the maximum 18 points over the same period. For those who don't like to have their mind polluted by such lowlife there is the http://www.rednews.co.uk/forum/RED.php RED FORUM. You have to register - but that is so we can turf out the ABU's when they become irritating enough. --------------------------------- [3] Favourites for the League --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by redend: Manchester United 11/10 Arsenal 9/4 Leeds United 9/2 Liverpool 9/2 Chelsea 25/1 http://www.sportingodds.co.uk/adserver/scripts/ict.dll?click?rnews0 Bet here http://www.sportingodds.co.uk/adserver/scripts/ict.dll?click?rnews1 Check http://www.rednews.co.uk to view the image which has been removed from plain text email version of news --------------------------------- [2] Something we're not favourites for .... --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by redend: ... the Champions League Real Madrid 7/4 Manchester United 9/2 Bayern Munich 6/1 Barcelona 8/1 Juventus 8/1 Deportivo La Coruna 10/1 Roma 14/1 Liverpool 16/1 Arsenal 20/1 http://www.sportingodds.co.uk/adserver/scripts/ict.dll?click?rnews0 Bet here --------------------------------- [1] Scousers favourite for something ... --------------------------------- Posted Friday, January 4, 2002 by redend: ...
