[10] Becks slags off Alan Green

"The whole team came in for a bit of stick after the last game. One person described
it as awful but we have done a good job today. Denmark are a good team but we worked
hard and defended well."

"(The mood) is very good obviously. We've done our job, played really well in the
first half, played good football and defended really well."

"It's nice that people are talking about me and my performances so far.

"But you don't become world class after a handful of games. You have to prove it over
the tournament.

"Mind you, it cannot be a bad thing when people are talking about you and other clubs
want you.

Does that mean his present club don't?

Joe, Joe Joe Jordan as well:

"The chairman phoned me only on Monday to ask about a player we might be interested in
signing."

The management team had been busy arranging pre-season games and training programmes
before going off on holiday.

"My brief last season was to get us back in the First Division and get the wage bill
down."

"We even had to get rid of some players last season when we were in a play-off
position.

"I wasn't given any indication that the board weren't happy with the job me and my
staff had done.

"We were looking forward to the new season. I'm disappointed. They have decided that
Joe and myself, for whatever reason, are no longer part of the football club."

Joe adds

"It never surprises you what happens in football," but this one came as a shock."

“There’s no point going flat out to win promotion and then being scared of the
consequences.”

“Going to Old Trafford isn't a frightening prospect – it’s an exciting one.

“This is what everybody at the football club worked so hard for last season, to be
playing teams like United, and Leeds and Arsenal, who we play next.

“The opposition don’t come any bigger than our first game. Sir Alex has become the
best manager in the history of English football with what he’s achieved there.

“Old Trafford is a bastion of football and it’s a fantastic opener for us.

"Some may say we haven't got the easiest of starts but there are no easy fixtures in
the Premiership anyway."

Damien Duff:

"They can forget all about me in Italy or Spain. I have not enjoyed the heat and the
humidity out here (in the Far East) at all.

"In fact, I have spent most of my time away from the training ground in bed to avoid
the high temperatures.

"It doesn't suit me at all so I have no interest in going abroad nor have I heard
anything about interest from Italian or Spanish clubs."

"I haven't even heard anything about Liverpool or Manchester United other than the
speculation in the media."

Ridsdale:

"I can't speculate about what will happen - but the only thing at the back of my mind
is how well the Leeds players are doing at the World Cup.

"I am very pleased and proud to see Rio doing so well for England and that only goes
to reaffirm why we brought him to the club.

"If you look at the facts of the matter when we signed him for a club record fee (£18
million), a lot of people thought we were mad.

"Now Rio is doing what we all knew he was capable of and everyone seems to think it
was they who signed him.

"We have had no offers for Rio and I don't want to go down the road of speculating
about that because we want to build a team around him at Leeds."

Not exactly a 'Not for Sale' comment, is it?

Lou Macari sacked - but doesn't know it. Huddersfield statement

"After much deliberation by the board it has been agreed that Lou Macari be given
notice that his contract with Huddersfield Town be terminated with immediate effect in
accordance with the provision of that contract. It has also been decided not to renew
the contract of assistant manager Joe Jordan, which expired on May 31, 2002. The
board, however, wish to place on record their appreciation for the coaching staff's
efforts during a difficult transitional period. We have tried to notify Lou of our
decision on several occasions over the past few days, but regrettably he has not
responded to our messages, and as a club we could no longer hold back this
announcement."

[11] Text messaging from United!
---------------------------------
Posted Friday, June 14, 2002 by bar-knee:
>From the official site:

'Fans who like to stay on the ball with ticket news are now being encouraged to
register for a special text messaging service.

United's popular SMS Ticket Service sends out a free text message to registered mobile
phones whenever seats become available to non-members. This was launched with great
success last season, and is now up and running for 2002/03.

The first SMS of the new season could be sent as early as next month, in the build-up
to United's UEFA Champions League qualifier. The tie is two-legged, and there is a
good chance that some tickets for the home match in August will go on open sale.

If you would like to receive free ticket alerts, then please register by dialling 0870
121 3311 from your mobile phone. A recorded message will then talk you through the
brief registration process.

Please note - in the case of limited ticket availability, proportionate notification
to registered users of this service will be determined by Manchester United.'
