[NSP] NOT PIPING!
To anyone familiar with Pro Tools LE 8.3 I've spent most of the past week trying to get get this software working on a new laptop running Windows 7. Like many out there it won't recocognise the clock from my Apogee Rosetta 200 (even at 44.1kHz) nor does it won't record for more than 1 minute before OS interupts stop it. I've tried the fixes on the Digidesign conference posts including disabling just about everything else on the computer. If any of the very clever people on this list know what might work I'd be very grateful. This has bugged me to such an extent I even missed the launch date for Jimmy's CD (no multi-tasking from yours truly!!). Anyone suggesting ideas that prove helpful will receive a copy of this feel-good album as a token of gratitude. Many thanks Anthony -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

[NSP] Aspiring to play nsp in Michigan
Hello to all from snowy Northern Michigan, I would like to learn to play the nsp and have already made some inquiries elsewhere to start this process. Julia suggested posting here to inquire if there might be any nsp pipers in my area. I live in Harbor Springs, MI, near the tip of the mitt. I am also beginning to look for a basic 7 key F set. If anyone knows of a used set or loaner (for hire) set, I would be interested in hearing about either. [NSP] Warning: scam
I found the following on Amazon for a hefty price - Music of Northumbria: Northumbria, Folk music, Border ballad, Northumbrian smallpipes, Bagpipes, Fiddle, The Ballad of Chevy Chase, Rapper sword, ... Bagpipe, Border pipes, Pastoral pipes (Paperback) by Frederic P. Miller (Editor), Agnes F. Vandome (Editor), John McBrewster (Editor) No customer reviews yet. Be the first. Was curious as I'd not heard of the authors or the publisher, alphascript - googled them and quickly learnt that the setup is a scam which recycles wikipedia articles and packages them as a plausible-ish looking book. Your own work may even be in there. -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

Hi All, These guys are truly prolific. Over 17,000 titles at Amazon and 5,000 at Blackwell. I have written to both. [NSP] Re: Warning: scam
In all fairness, they do describe it as: Product Description High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! They make no attempt to hide that fact although whether lifting articles from there and then binding them and selling them is legal, I don't know. Shows it pays to read the description though before parting with large sums of cash for what you can get free on the Internet (and, let's face it, the Wikpedia is always 100% accurate isn't it?) - (that was meant to be sarcastic, by the way). Good for you to point it out Matt, thanks (puts cheque book away). Both ide and sata harddrives are compatable. Therefore you may have a problem without a second internal harddrive. Adrian Thanks for that Adrian. I've also been told that fire-wire cards other than Texas instrument ones can be a problem. I think I might put the laptop idea on hold for a month or two!! [NSP] Re: Not Piping
Hi Anthony, Windz 7 does not yet have sufficient drivers or debugging to be fully stable, and it will take a while for the third parties to write the low level drivers, when and if they get access to the system hooks. I suggest you boot from a win xp non-install (boot sys cd) cd or linux non-install cd and load the software you need via usb into a memory diskyou can delete it all by switching off. Or maybe get all portable software on USB to do your work. Lots of luck with ver 7 or just have patience cheers Dave Anthony Robb wrote: Both ide and sata harddrives are compatable.
