*** The story ***
=
1. I just reinstalled teTeX via Gerben Wierda's i-packages. I'm running
on Macintosh, MacOS X 10.3.3.

	ConTeXt version : ver: 2003.1.31 fmt: 2004.4.4 int: english mes:
english
	pdfeTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.11b-2.1 (Web2C 7.5.2)

	In my private texmf-tree, is NO file named *.cnf or *.ini or *.sys

2. I wish to typeset this simple source (test.tex) :

\startuseMPgraphic{fig-mpost}
draw (0,0)--(2cm,2cm) ;
label.ulft(btex $x^2+1$ etex, (1cm,1cm)) ;
\stopuseMPgraphic
	\starttext

This is my figure.
\placefigure[here][fig-example]{My figure}{\useMPgraphic{fig-mpost}}
\stoptext
\end
3. I typed :
texexec --verbose --pdf test.tex  texexec.log
4. The test.pdf file exhibit an empty rectangle with the word
undefined instead of my figure.

5. There is the various *.log files produced :

You must at least enable write18 in your texmf.cnf;
that allows ConTeXt to call MetaPost inline;
pdfTeX will tell you about in every run:
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159-1.00b-pretest-20020211 (Web2C 7.3.7x)
\write18 enabled.

Right, and in texmf/tex/context/user/cont-sys.tex, you must uncomment
these two lines:
 \runMPgraphicstrue
 \runMPTEXgraphicstrue

Re: [NTG-context] ConTeXt's CD

Hello,
I'm trying ConTeXt on CD using
   http://www.pragma-ade.com/context/tex.iso.bz2
First of all: it is really amazing ! Everything needed for ContTeXt on one CD
and ready to use. I'll keep this CD in my pocket for now :-)
Since I'm a nasty user, here are a suggestion and some problems:
1/ What about adding a shortcut to cscite.bat under the CD's root or an
autorun.inf? It would be much more natural than usr/local/context/cscite.bat
i'd like that but somehow i cannot get the icon working; i'm thinking of a
root startup as well (extra); the /usr construct is needed because we have
more than context -)

2/ With the last version, 29-Mar-2004 21:35, when I try to compile
readme.tex
(copied on hard-disk and opened with scite) with Ctrl+F7 (concheck readme.tex)
I've got a file not found error.
hm, will check it

3/ When I try to build the same file I've got the following error:
fonts  : [palatino] [texnansi] []
! I can't find file `.\type-syn'.
i ran into that too and spent the weekend sorting it out; i'll upload a new
version tomorrow

4/ I can open the readme.pdf file with acrobat but Crtl+2 (Tools/View PDF
file)
a message box pop up with the message:
Error while launching gsview32.exe with Params: readme.pdf The specified
file was not found.
hm, will check

I also found some ways around the tmp path problem (spaces in names of
paths and so)

OK, I may be making a complete fool of myself, but I couldn't find an
answer in the manuals or the list archive or the TeX-book: what does the
! construct in the context source mean? I mean lines like this

\setvalue{\??am\s!do\v!rechts}

Is this common TeX code or a special context construct?
namespace: see mult-ini.tex for an explanation

\??am - variable group
\s!do - system reserved keyword
\v!rechts - keyword (value) - adapts to the interface language
\c!rechts - keyword (key)   - is frozen
it's part of context having a multi lingual interface
