 Hi all,

 I have problem with chars encoding now; I have updated ConTeXt sometimes in
 January; before the time I was using old (year) version. In this
 prehistorical version the problem was not present.

 What is the stuff? The following code generates content with titles without
 spaces -- accented characters are replaced with \char XXX variant, so during
 reading TUI line TeX gobbles a space after XXX as a part of number syntax
 rule.

can you send me a zip with the test file so that the 8 bit chars are ok?

New stuff in the last beta:

* support for ancient greek (untested)
* some changes to m-streams (untested)
* unic-032 and unic-033 are extended
* a grouping fix in typing environments
* a fix for delimitedtext (Gerben's quotation bug)
* \startsubstack ... stopsubstack added
* the change for equation label behvaiour. If you want
   to test it, change the \NC's in Hans' example to \NR's.
   (a bare \startformula ... \NR[eq4] \stopformula doesnt
work, but I am not surprised about that)
* modules can have arguments now
* accents in MP graphics are restored (Mojca's bug)
* unicode vector 37 is loaded (box drawing)
* a very small fix to trimming in newtexexec
* a \dodoregister fix, but see below

Bugs/omissions in the beta:

* In core-reg.tex, \doflushatpar has gone in favour of \dogotpar,
   but \complexdoseeregister and \dodolinkedregister still use it.
* \startsubstack ... stopsubstack still uses the \vadjust I wrote,
   not Hans' improved version
* The bibliography module is still ancient
* Duncan's xtag-mml patch (on this dev list, 03/24)

[NTG-context] Regression Test project started

2006-03-31 Thread Taco Hoekwater
Hello everybody,

I am pleased to let you know that a regression test project
for ConTeXt has started. The pages of the project are here:

https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contexttest/

and the goal is to create a repository of small, easily
verifiable test files to test new ConTeXt releases against.

The project is of course looking for help from the community.
You do not have to have a deep understanding of ConTeXt to
be able to help! you only have to know how to write an input
file that tests a small part of ConTeXt (say \startitemize
options), nothing complicated.

We will put all those files
in the version control system, and eventuall create an
automated system to compile the whole batch overnight
after each new beta release.

If you want to join in, please register yourself as a user
on the above site and let me know so I can add you to the
project and its mailing list.

[NTG-context] wiki / modules

2006-03-31 Thread Hans Hagen
Hi,

How about renaming the font related zips to f-somename.zip (just like
modules are organized in t-somename.zip files).

Also, the font zips need to be made tds (texmf tree) compliant:

bibtex
fonts
tex
metapost
doc

+ the right context subpaths

so, no texmf root included

there should be no README files in the root, although i can imagine that
we permit

  t-somename.readme

the t-greek zip needs to be repackaged (zip inside zip + texmf root)

that way i can fetch the files automatically and create a cont-ext.zip
file automatically

- either we use t-name or name as subpath, but we need to be consistent and
since only t-'s go there, we can omit the t- from the path

- only store runtime files in context/third/somename

- always provide an doc path

- put a file t-somename.xml in the tex path that looks like:

module
  titleverbose title/title
  version/version
  authors
 author/author
 author/author
  /authors
  copyright
  /copyright
  description
  /description
  installation
  /installation
/module

(plus some basic x-contml stuff)

or whatever we can agree on, but at least let's cook up a format that can be
parsed (the wiki already has something like that to generate the modules pages,
i dunno the format)

[NTG-context] Problems with Standalone distribution

2006-03-31 Thread wwl
Hallo!

Some months ago I have downloaded 'mswincontext.zip'.

There were a lot of Problems and I tried to solve them.
I could finally compile some files. But then I get new problems and
so I decided to start over and ask the list for help.

First Problem (may be the mother of all the others):

The Batch-Files 'cdemo.bat' and 'cscite.bat' are using for example
%~s1 for the first placeholder on the commandline.

My Windowssystem (ME) doesn't understand this.

Are there other Batch-Files that work on older commandoprozessors to
download?

A second question:

There exists an directory 'usr\local\context\tex\texmf\texmf' which
contains fontinformation to one single fontfamily 'cb'.

Is this ok: 'texmf' under 'texmf'? And why ist this there?

2006-03-31 Thread Ville Voipio
Title: Uppercase headings

I started to edit an old document with capitalized headings. Making the headings was rather difficult (as can be seen on this list about a year ago), and now it seems to have broken again.

I have:

 after={\textrule\blank},

I know this is not a trivial question due to the number
of encodings and languages. However, what makes me a bit
puzzled is that the following works fine:

  \title{\WORD{Text with åäö etc.} }

So, the mechanism behind \WORD works well. It is just that
I cannot figure out how to use it. I emphasize that it used

was with an old version (April '05).

   tex : unknown
   context : ver: 2006.03.25 13:21

Has there been any change after that? If not, I could brew up a

[NTG-context] new module: streams

2006-03-31 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz
Dear all,

as you may have seen in the lates release notes, ConTeXt has a new
feature: we have now streams for even and odd pages that can be
synchronized at certain points. This is useful for, e.g., typesetting
bilingual books: have the original on the even pages, the translation
on the odd pages, and synchronize at certain points. I was very
tenacious about it, and Hans has been characteristically generous
with his skills and his time and has implemented something. I'm sure
if some of you are interested, we will be able to refine it.

I am uploading a pdf-document displaying this new feature to our
institute's website. Due to the system our university uses, it may
take until tomorrow until it's really visible at http://www.uni-
bonn.de/www/Philologie/Personal/Schmitz/Dateien.html It's a bilingual
(Greek-German) edition of a number of Greek texts for my lecture
course next semester. It's not perfect, but it shows how powerful
this new feature is. Have a look at it; if anybody is interested in
seeing the source code, just contact me, and I'll be happy to send it
along. Just a very brief explanation, if you want to try this at home:

In the module, Hans has suggested a few shortcuts to using it, so I
have in the preamble of the document:

\usemodule[streams]

\def\StartCouple{\page\SwitchToNormal}
\def\StopCouple {\SwitchToNormal \SynchronizeLeftAndRight
\FlushLeftAndRight}
\def\Original   {\SwitchToNormal\SynchronizeLeftAndRight\SwitchToLeft}
\def\Translation{\SwitchToRight}

So you put the part of your document where synchronization should
take place between \StartCouple and \StopCouple. After that ,
\Original and \Translation switches between even and odd pages.

I know that several people on the list asked for a similar feature,
and I'm very grateful to Hans for providing it.

Best

[NTG-context] References formatting (m-bib related problems)

2006-03-31 Thread Renaud AUBIN

Hi all,

At first, I use m-bib-beta-20060208.zip. Up to now, I used:

\setupbibtex[database=biblio,sort=author]
\setuppublications[alternative=num-fr,sorttype=bbl,numbering=yes]

%% In order to format Names with small capitals:
\def\mynormalauthor#1#2#3#4#5%
{\bibdoif{#1}{#1\bibalternative{firstnamesep}}%
\bibdoif{#2}{#2\bibalternative{vonsep}}%
\bgroup\sc#3\egroup\bibalternative{surnamesep}\unskip
\bibdoif{#5}{#5\unskip}}

\setuppublicationlist
 [artauthor=\mynormalauthor,
 editor=\mynormalauthor,
 author=\mynormalauthor]

Everything works fine, but now I would use apa-fr and I have some
problems. After discussing this topic with Taco on #context, I have
tried the following code:
% \cite[name00] should return [Name, 2000]
\unprotect\def\mybibcommand#1{\expanded{\cite[\@@pbk]}~~} \protect
\setupbibtex[database=biblio,sort=author]
\setuppublications[alternative=apa,sorttype=bbl,numbercommand=\mybibcommand,
numbering=yes,autohang=yes]

\setupcite[authoryears][left={[},right={]}]

So, just forget to format the authors with normalauthor small
capitals It's ok for the cite command but labels of the references
listing is wrong (each label are the same and correspond in fact to the
last entry ! )... Any idea ???

Add to this the fact that I don't like the formatting of the year -
(1999). Since I like the formatting applied with num-fr, how to
reproduce it with apa-fr.
(I have tested apa and apa-fr and it gives same results in either)

Cheers,

Renaud

[NTG-context] Rows and lines in tables

2006-03-31 Thread Robert Engelhardt
Hello all,

I'm a new ConTeXt user (started using it a few days ago) and I do have
three problems now with tables which I could not solve reading the manual
and the content of the ConTeXt wiki. I've created a minimal example (see
below) illustrating my problems:

1. How can create lines with different widths using the \DL command as
I do with \HL[factor] oder \VL[factor]? This would, in my
example, allow to align the dummyx text in the first table with the
numbers x in the second table.

2. How can I create a carriage return in the text of a table cell?
Neither \crlf nor \\ do work (tried it with the AAA and BBB text
in the first table to get them into the same cell.

3. How can I synchronize the height of the first two lines of the first
table with those of the second table, no matter if there's a line between
the rows (as in the second table, a thin one as in my example or even a
fat one) or not (like in the first table which visually has a big
cell)? Can I create an invisible line? How do I line up the BBB with
the YYY / ZZZ line? Or, another possibility, how do I control the rows
independently, having the BBB in the first table very close to the
AAA, perhaps even three lines of text there, and at the same time only
two rows of text in the second table? What about having only one line of
text in the first table, vertically centered to the corresponding two
rows of the second table?

=== [example] ===

\starttext

=== [/example] ===

I know, a layout with all these horizontal lines and two tables sitting
next to each other is not the best one, but I'm trying to reconstruct an
existing document which is designed that way. Thanks for your help!

'texexec --make --all' doesn't work

but

'texmfstart texexec.pl --make --all' works!

formatfiles will generatet under '.\pdfetex' relativ to the aktual
path.

Style sheets are missing, so it looks a bit poor, but at least I made

Re: [NTG-context] References formatting (m-bib related problems)

2006-03-31 Thread Renaud AUBIN

It's confirmed: same problems with t-bib-2006.03.13.zip

( Please Taco, is it possible to remove leftover "year needed" messages
? )

Renaud AUBIN a crit:

  Hi all,

At first, I use m-bib-beta-20060208.zip. Up to now, I used:

\setupbibtex[database=biblio,sort=author]
\setuppublications[alternative=num-fr,sorttype=bbl,numbering=yes]

%% In order to format Names with small capitals:
\def\mynormalauthor#1#2#3#4#5%
{\bibdoif{#1}{#1\bibalternative{firstnamesep}}%
\bibdoif{#2}{#2\bibalternative{vonsep}}%
\bgroup\sc#3\egroup\bibalternative{surnamesep}\unskip
\bibdoif{#5}{#5\unskip}}

\setuppublicationlist
  [artauthor=\mynormalauthor,
   editor=\mynormalauthor,
   author=\mynormalauthor]

Everything works fine, but now I would use apa-fr and I have some
problems. After discussing this topic with Taco on #context, I have
tried the following code:
% \cite[name00] should return [Name, 2000]
\unprotect\def\mybibcommand#1{\expanded{\cite[\@@pbk]}~~} \protect
\setupbibtex[database=biblio,sort=author]
\setuppublications[alternative=apa,sorttype=bbl,numbercommand=\mybibcommand,
numbering=yes,autohang=yes]

Cheers,

Renaud

About the overall formatting: have you tried using num-fr
together with \setuppublications[refcommand=authoryears] ?

I'll try to have a look at your labelling request today or
tomorrow, but I cannot promise.

 ( Please Taco, is it possible to remove leftover year needed messages ? )

The are gone in the version I sent Hans for the next
context release (that will be real soon now, i hope)

Cheers,

Taco
