i use just scite for xml editing (+ tidy under a button for checking);

xml alone and for that scite suits well)

Re: [NTG-context] How to not reset page numbers with a new part?

2008-02-12 Thread Bart Wise
Willi,

I tried that and it did do what I wanted. My book has frontmatter and
bodymatter. The page numbering will start at 1 on the title page, displayed
in roman numerals. And then when the bodymatter is entered, the numbering
should get reset to 1. However, when I did a way=bytext, I could not reset
the numbering to 1 when I was in the bodymatter section.

Any more hints?

Just for clarity sake, here's some sample code of what I'm trying to do:

\enablemode[doublesided]

\setuppagenumbering[
location={footer,middle},
alternative=doublesided,
partnumber=no,
style=\em\tfx,
way=bytext]

\starttext

\startfrontmatter

\startstandardmakeup[headerstate=none]
Half-Title Here
\stopstandardmakeup

\startstandardmakeup[doublesided=no]
Title Here
\stopstandardmakeup

\startstandardmakeup[page=no]
Copyright here
\stopstandardmakeup

\chapter{Preface}  \dorecurse{10}{\input tufte  }
\stopfrontmatter

\startbodymatter

\setuppagenumbering[number=1]

\chapter{first}  \dorecurse{10}{\input tufte  }

 Hi Aditya,

 now I need to apologize for being so slow to reply: thanks a lot, this
 looks really fascinating! I don't know how many things I've read on
 the web to understand if regexps can handle nested delimiters or not
 (I think the long and short of it was that on some mathematical
 principle it just isn't possible); there is some pretty obscure perl
 stuff that might be able to do it but is highly experimental. If gema
 really can do this, it should be a godsend for processing TeX files. I
 have it installed now on my OS X box (but couldn't build the gel
 binary) and am looking forward to experimenting with it.

 lua's pattern matcher can hanle nested {} (syntax: %b{} and such)

 more clever things can be done with lpeg, bla {bla\{bla} and such

 if you're up to date you may try

   mtxrun --script check sometexfile.tex

 this is a (for the mooment simple) syntax checker i wrote a while ago
 which shows the principles

I have been looking at different ways to parse TeX syntax since I
occassionally do ConTeXt - LaTeX conversion. Things like gema and regexs
are ok for small things: e.g., convert ConTeXt section commands to LaTeX
section commnads, convert figures, etc. Gema is better if you also want to
convert ConTeXt font commands to LaTeX; since it is easier to write nested
conversions. However, both fail miserably if you want to convert things
like ConTeXt multi-line math statements to LaTeX. For that a real parser
is needed. I have looked at Parsec (and Pandoc project) in Haskell, but
have not made too much progress there. Maybe lpeg is an easier to
understand parser. (But I sometimes get the feeling that the whole thing
will be easier in TeX, since TeX already parses itself :)

 Thomas

Thanks Thomas for your attention: in fact my installation of ConTeXt
works fine, so there is no need to send me a correct lang-agr.tex.
I wanted just to report the issue.

Best regards: OK

Re: [NTG-context] {{ double braces }}

2008-02-12 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz
Hi Aditya,

now I need to apologize for being so slow to reply: thanks a lot, this
looks really fascinating!

All best, and thanks!

Thomas

 Nested patterns is something where gema really excels. Here is a gema
 script to convert \footnote{{something}} to \footnote{something}

 :\\footnote\W\{\{matchbrace\}\}=\\footnote\{$1\}
 matchbrace:\{#\}=\{#\}
 matchbrace:\\Y1=\\$1

 Save it as footnote.gema and then run

 gema -f footnote.gema tex-file  output-file

 It handles these expressions correctly:

 \footnote{{This $\frac{a}{b^{c+d}}$ is a strange footnote}}

 \footnote{{This $\frac{a}{b^{c+d}}$ is a strange footnote with
 multiple {nested
 {expressions

 \footnote{{This $\frac{\left[\frac {a}{b}\right\}}{c}$ is a strange
 footnote}}

 It is much easier to write than regular expressions. Unfortunately,
 gema
 expressions can be as hard as regular expressions to read.

[NTG-context] Blackboard bold \Bbb and MKIV

2008-02-12 Thread Otared Kavian
Hi all,

In my first steps in experimenting MKIV, I typeset the following
minimal example

\starttext
Let ${\bf c} \in {\Bbb R}$.
\stoptext

with luatex, but the Blackboard Bold {\Bbb R} doesn't appear. The same
file is fine with MKII.
LuaTeX gives hundreds of warnings such as:

luaTeX warning (file /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.local/fonts/map/dvipdfm/
context/original-ams-base.map): invalid entry for `msbm10': both
ps_name and font file missing

(for various fonts), but I don't know what are exactly the differences
between the ways of handling fonts in MKII and MKIV.
For your information the above are obtained under:
ConTeXt  ver: 2008.02.11 10:35 MKIV  fmt: 2008.2.12  int: english/
english

lua's pattern matcher can hanle nested {} (syntax: %b{} and such)

more clever things can be done with lpeg, bla {bla\{bla} and such

if you're up to date you may try

mtxrun --script check sometexfile.tex

this is a (for the mooment simple) syntax checker i wrote a while ago
which shows the principles

[NTG-context] bib module

2008-02-12 Thread Bob Grünberg
Hi All,

some item in the publication list placed at the end of my document
looks good and some not. Not means there is only First author et. al.
(with initials) and good means there are all author from all \artauthor fields.
I have no clue why.
In my source file test.tex I have written:

   \usemodule[bib]
   \setuppublications[database=test, alternative=aps,
numbering=yes,refcommand=serial]

I give you the full output but if you need more information, let me know.
Thank you...

The test.bbl file looks like these two items for all 48:

This is a feature, lookup authoretallimit in the manual if you want to
know more.

   \setupcite[authoretallimit=10]

should fix your problem.
