[NTG-context] LuaTeX problems

2008-06-26 Thread Tomi Lindberg
ConTeXt minimals is up and running but I have problems with LuaTeX.
First the files I assume to be important:

% Project
\startproject atkmom

\environment environ
\product book

\stopproject

% Product
\startproduct book

\project atkmom

\component images

\startfrontmatter
\environment fmatter
\completecontent
\stopfrontmatter

\startbodymatter
\environment body
\component intro
\component osbasics
\component files
\component opera
\stopbodymatter

\startbackmatter
\completeindex[title=Hakemisto]
\stopbackmatter

\stopproduct

With texexec my project results in proper .pdf file except the
additional empty page at the end of it.

With context the process ends after line \product book (I get a
proper notice about the end of product book) in project file and i get
the * prompt. It seems like LuaTeX can't see the \stopproject at
all and thinks that the file has unexpectedly ended.

Also with context I get messages that every \at, \in and \about that
refers to something in component other than the one they're in is an
unknown reference. They all work fine with texexec.

Any idea what's wrong?

[NTG-context] Setting up minimals (saw: Re: distro info)

2008-06-26 Thread Andrea Valle

Hi to all,

Ok, I'm going for minimals (hurray!)

cd /path/to/some/folder
rsync -ptv rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/setup/first-setup.sh .
./first-setup.sh

Perfect.
Under Applications now I have a ConTeXtMinimals folder containg
relevant stuff (tex+bin folders, a .lua and the .sh file).

Alternatively, you may use

cd /path/to/some/folder
. setuptex

I'd prefer to go with this, locally.
So in terminal I did:
cd /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/ . setuptex

ahem,
- what have I to do now?

andrea:/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals andreavalle$ context
-bash: context: command not found

- If I have understood, context calls luatex, am I right?

- I can call texexec but I'm not sure I'm calling the minimal one.

System fonts on Mac should work by default since a few days ago.

- This means I can use something like this if I call the xtx switch?:

\definetypeface[Optima][rm][Xserif][Optima]
\definetypeface[Optima][tt][Xmono][LM Typewriter Regular]
\definetypeface[Garamond][rm][Xserif][Garamond]
\setupbodyfont[Optima]

- How does font selection work under luatex?

- What have I to do to use bibtex?

Many thanks

I did this interview where I just mentioned that I read Foucault. Who
doesn't in university, right? I was in this strip club giving this
guy a lap dance and all he wanted to do was to discuss Foucault with
me. Well, I can stand naked and do my little dance, or I can discuss
Foucault, but not at the same time; too much information.

There's a whole chapter on hyphenation rules for the European languages.

A magnificent reference!

At least for Slovenian it's using the deprecated language name,
mentioning the wrong set of special characters used, digraphs that
don't even exist, at two different places mentioning a different set
of digraphs, but neither exist (forgiving them the fact how horrible
these are represented graphically), giving examples of hyphenated
words that don't even exist in the language (not to say that they
cannot even be spoken out), listing a miserably incomplete set of
rules. Mentioning a reference that is not even included in the
References at the end of document.

Wow! I really wonder how they have managed to mix up all that. I hope
that they are not selling that to anyone.

Re: [NTG-context] hyphenation question

2008-06-26 Thread Charles P. Schaum
Unfortunately, these chaps haven't read their Duden Band 1, Die Deutsche
Rechtschreibung. I checked their examples against it and they are quite
in error at times. That makes it notoriously difficult to figure out the
proper from the improper.

So they theoretically could have a good product and asked someone to go
cheap on producing the PDF. Goodness knows, you wouldn't believe how
many PhD's put their names on stuff that their research beetles really
wrote. Still, it reflects poorly and hurts their business.

I'd say that if they don't have their act together, let the free market
sort it out. I can hyphenate all sorts of languages in Ubuntu just fine.

You have to do:

If the command works, type

$ echo $TEXMFMAIN

$ which texmfstart

To see whether the path is correctly set. If which context returns
nothing, search for file context (I don't know how to search for

Re: [NTG-context] Setting up minimals (saw: Re: distro info)

2008-06-26 Thread Andrea Valle

. /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex
/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex

Ah, ok, it's a single line.

If the command works, type

$ echo $TEXMFMAIN

$ which texmfstart
$ which texexec
$ which context

Perfect, all seems to work

Thanks David, Aditya.

So back to the other questions

- This means I can use something like this if I call the xtx switch?:

\definetypeface[Optima][rm][Xserif][Optima]
\definetypeface[Optima][tt][Xmono][LM Typewriter Regular]
\definetypeface[Garamond][rm][Xserif][Garamond]
\setupbodyfont[Optima]

- How does font selection work under luatex?

- What have I to do to use bibtex?

Many thanks

Best
-a-

Think of it as seasoning
. noise [salt] is boring
. F(blah) [food without salt] can be boring
. F(noise, blah) can be really tasty

(Ken Perlin on noise)

[NTG-context] Include SVG pictures with ConTeXt

2008-06-26 Thread TeXWorld
Hello,

I wonder if it is possible to include SVG picture directly in ConTeXt
without conversion.
Thank you.

Great. If you found certain instructions on the wiki confusing, please add
details there.

So back to the other questions

 - How does font selection work under luatex?

I don't know font selection in XeTeX, and understand font selection in
luatex only marginally, so I'll let someone else answer this.

 - What have I to do to use bibtex?

Suppose your file is called thesis.tex (Ok, I had to test things to ensure
what I was saying was true, and that is the only test file that I have
currently :). Now run
$context thesis
This will create a lot of warnings about missing references, ignore them.
Then run
$bibtex thesis
This will create tesis.bbl. Now run context, and all those warnings will
be gone. You only need to run bibtex once (unless you change your bib
file).

This situation is temporary. When Hans implements intermediate run's in
mtxrun, you will not need to run bibtex by hand.
