Re: [NTG-context] [OS X TeX] Default rule thickness

2008-08-08 Thread Oliver Buerschaper
 The rule is between 0.4pt and 0.5pt

 \starttext
 \dontleavehmode
 \scale[factor=200]{$1 \over 2$}
 \scale[factor=200]{$1 \above .47pt 2$}
 \stoptext

Lovely! This applies to ConTeXt's default font size of 12pt, doesn't
it? Hence we would have the following linear relation if the thickness
is 0.4pt at 10pt font size:

thickness = 0.4pt * fontsize/10pt.

Judging from the following:

---
\startuseMPgraphic{rule}
  linecap := butt;
  defaultrulethickness := 0.4pt*BodyFontSize/10pt;

  path p;
  p := origin--(EmWidth,0);
  draw p withpen pencircle scaled defaultrulethickness;
\stopuseMPgraphic

\starttext

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

\startformula
 \sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{x^n}{n!}\!\vcenter{\useMPgraphic{rule}}
\stopformula

\setupbodyfont[32pt]

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

\startformula
 \sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{x^n}{n!}\!\vcenter{\useMPgraphic{rule}}

\setupbodyfont[72pt]

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

\startformula
 \sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{x^n}{n!}\!\vcenter{\useMPgraphic{rule}}
\stopformula

\stoptext
---

this seems to be true in general. (Hans, Taco, can you confirm this
officially?)

Could one perhaps pass DefaultRuleThickness on to MetaFun just as
the variables BodyFontSize, ExHeight etc. are made available?

Best,
Oliver

[NTG-context] Custom Section / Table of contents inside a table

2008-08-08 Thread Demian Gutierrez
Hi folks,

I'm making a document with a lot of tables. I have templates for all
the kinds of tables, so authors only have to use the predefined macros
to fill the tables. That is working pretty well, but I still have two
little problems.

The first one, is that some of the author filled fields in the tables
should be part of the content table of the document, but in the filled
table itself, they should still look as normal text. To do so, I have
defined my own section, this way:

\definehead[fieldNameSection][subsection]
\setuphead[fieldNameSection][number=no, textstyle=\tfe]

And made a table of contents:

\definecombinedlist[content][fieldNameSection,myheader,subsection,subsubsection][textstyle=\tf]
\setupcombinedlist [content][alternative=c,textstyle=\tf]

So if I do:

\fieldNameSection{Some Title}

And then:

\placecontent

It works well and shows the entry in the table of contents. But when I
do it inside the table macro definition, and then use the macro:

\def\bCrudCampo{
  \doifnothing{\getvariable{CrudCampo}{CrudCampo}}
  {\section{Descripción de Campos}}
  \setvariables[CrudCampo][CrudCampo=FLG]

  \bgroup
  \def\bNombreCampoGUI##1\eNombreCampoGUI{
\setvariables[CrudCampo][NombreCampoGUIVAL={##1}]
\setvariables[CrudCampo][NombreCampoGUIFLG=FLG]
  }
}

\def\eCrudCampo{
  \def\keyNombreCampoGUI{Nombre del Campo (GUI):}

  \setupTABLE[c][1][width=0.2\textwidth]
\setupTABLE[c][2][width=0.8\textwidth]
\bTABLE[frame=on]
\bTR
  \bTD {\bf \keyNombreCampoGUI} \eTD
  \bTD

% COMENTED --
% \doifelsenothing{\getvariable{CrudCampo}{NombreCampoGUIFLG}}
% {\EMPTY}{\getvariable{CrudCampo}{NombreCampoGUIVAL}}
% COMENTED --

\fieldNameSection{*\getvalue{CrudCampo:NombreCampoGUIVAL}*}
  \eTD
\eTR
\eTABLE
\vskip2mm
\egroup
}

So when I use the

\fieldNameSection{*\getvalue{CrudCampo:NombreCampoGUIVAL}*}

in the previous code I get nothing but an empty entry in the table of
contents (well in fact with the * before and after I get just **).
The entry is shown in the TOC, but I don't see the text, only the dots
and the page number. It's like at some point the variable is empty at
the moment of generating the table of contents or something like that.
I really have not a clue about what I'm doing wrong...

The second issue is that the previous commented code:

\doifelsenothing{\getvariable{CrudCampo}{NombreCampoGUIFLG}}
{\EMPTY}{\getvariable{CrudCampo}{NombreCampoGUIVAL}}

Is the best way I've found so far to show an EMPTY in one of the
table fields when the author forgets to fill a row when using the
template. I've tried a lot of combinations of \setvariable, \setvalue,
and several \doifSOMETHING, but at this point it only works if the
author omits the \bNombreCampoGUI \eNombreCampoGUI pair, but if he
puts the commands, but left the content empty, then I don't get
EMPTY as result in the table and only got an empty string (nothing)
and I would like to have the EMPTY in both cases. Also I don't like
to use the variable NombreCampoGUIFLG, I think it's just a dirty
trick, but is the only solution I found so far. Is there a better way
to do the empty test there to achieve the desired behavior?

Thanks in advance, for any opinion, suggestion, critics or help :-)

Best Regards,
Demián.

Hi again Hans,

It is not possible to update to the latest release with sudo ctxtools
--updatecontext.

In order to inform other Mac users, and possibly prevent them to
update, I am reporting my (bad) experience:
DO NOT UPDATE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON…

Indeed something has changed in the structure of the new tree, or in
the scripts, and obviously maybe both, so if you are not aware, don't
update!

And now my experience: yesterday I tried to update and then I got the
message
FatalError : Your format does not match the base files!
expalining me why ConTeXt could not typeset my files.
After trying (without success…) to install the minimals from the
Garden, I had to install anew my whole TeX tree with TeXMac (which
installs TeXLive 2007).
However the ConTeXt present on MacTeX dates back to 2007.01.12, so in
order to have a more recent version, I downloaded manually from
http://foundry.supelec.fr/frs/?group_id=14release_id=313
the file
cont-tmf-20080521.zip
copied it into (using sudo)
/usr/local/texlive/texmf-local
and then unzipped it there. Finally I did
sudo texmfstart texexec --make --all --pdftex
after which I have a ConTeXt mkii
ConTeXt ver: 2008.05.21 15:21 MKII fmt: 2008.8.7 int: english/english
which is not the latest, but it works fine…

[NTG-context] Two bibliography problems

2008-08-08 Thread Michael Green

This sort of bibliography entry gives me two kinds of trouble.

@book{ODonovan:1999uv,
Address = {Grand Rapids, Michigan},
Author = {O'Donovan, Joan Lockwood and O'Donovan, Oliver},
Publisher = {William B. Eerdmans},
	Title = {From Irenaeus to Grotius: a sourcebook in Christian
political thought, 100-1625},

Year = {1999}}

(1) I get two periods after a book title when using \setuppublications
[alternative=apa]. For this particular entry, here is what I get.

O'Donovan, J. L. and O'Donovan, O. (1999). From Irenaeus to Grotius:
a sourcebook in Christian political thought, 100-1625.. Grand Rapids,
Michigan: William B. Eerdmans.

This happens with all books. On looking at the source, I'm afraid I
can't track down where it's coming from or how to fix it.

(2) Is it possible to use smart quotes in citations? For instance,
for this book, authored by O'Donovan, I can enter the appropriately
curly character between O and D in my bibtex file. But it comes out
straight in the final document.
