[NTG-context] odd end-of-line error w/ Minion Pro

2011-02-11 Thread Daniel Lyons
Hi,

I'm seeing a strange behavior with Minion Pro in OTF and the simplefont
package. I'm not sure if it only happens with simplefont because I don't know
how to set up a typescript. In any case, in breaking a line between roman and
italic text, ConTeXt is losing a bit of space at the end of line. I thought it
might be related to using hz or hanging alignment, or the quality option for
protrusion and expansion, but it seems to happen even with these features
disabled. Very unclear what could be causing this. Is it a known issue? What is
this kind of bad behavior called?

I've attached an image to which I've added a red line to show where the 'a' is
leaving extra space before the newline.

Thanks again,

hard to say without the input ... could be a spurious space

Are you shure it's not the isn't that is penetrating the margin? One can't
really tell from the provided picture if the a or the t is the actual edge
of the text. I also included a typescript for adobe fonts (incl. MinionPro)
that was kindly shared on this list by Florian Wobbe.

[NTG-context] gridsnapping question

2011-02-11 Thread Andreas Harder
Hello,

I've another grid question: What is the goal of all the grid options? It seems
that neither the head nor the following text is aligned to the grid.

I've adapted the grid-001-example.

\setuppapersize[A5][A5]
\setuplayout[grid=tolerant]
\setupbodyfont[palatino]

\def\ChapterTest#1%
  {\setuphead[chapter][grid={#1}]
\startchapter[title={Test: #1}]
  test \par test \par test
\stopchapter
\startchapter[title={Test: #1\\test\\test}]
  test \par test \par test
\stopchapter}

\definegridsnapping[whatever][strut,offset:-2pt]
\definegridsnapping[chapter] [mindepth,maxheight,local]

\starttext  \showgrid % \showbaselinecorrection
  \title{Test: no grid option} test \par test \par test

[NTG-context] how to remove unwanted coordinate numbers(metafun)

2011-02-11 Thread Jeong Dalyoung
Dear all.

I try to draw a circle with points on it as following:

path p; p:= fullcircle scaled 5cm;
draw p;
pickup pencircle scaled 2mm;
k:=1;
for i = 2.2,3,3.5,4.5,5,7,0,.7,1.3:
drawpoint point i of p;
label.lft(decimal k, point i of p);
k:= k+1;
endfor;

It draws a circle, points, label, but unwanted coordinate numbers like
(60.43535, 36.97691), too.
I didn't see such numbers in any example in metafun document.

If I use z[k] like

z[k] = point i of P;
draw z[k]

Then such a long numbers disappeared.

Is it the only way to surpress those numbers not using z?

Thank you for reading.

best regards,

Dalyoung

Depends on the commands, sometimes the value is checked but no with
gridsnapping.

The “yes” value is defined as

\definegridsnapping[yes][maxheight,maxdepth,strut]

and you enable with with “grid=yes” a where context tests if “yes”
is a predefined lists but “grid={maxheight,maxdepth,strut}” is also
valid and in this case context defined a dummy list which is passed
to lua. The same happens with “verytolerant”, context creates
a dummy list and use ”verytolerant” as value for this list.

 \definegridsnapping[yes][maxheight,maxdepth,strut]

 and you enable with with “grid=yes” a where context tests if “yes”
 is a predefined lists but “grid={maxheight,maxdepth,strut}” is also
 valid and in this case context defined a dummy list which is passed
 to lua. The same happens with “verytolerant”, context creates
 a dummy list and use ”verytolerant” as value for this list.

Thank you Wolfgang!

Now I've defined verytolerant in order to get some fractions on grid.

\definegridsnapping[verytolerant][maxdepth:1.6,maxheight:1.4,strut]

\setuplayout[grid=verytolerant]
% \setuplayout[grid=tolerant]

\setupbodyfont[palatino]

\starttext
test\crlf
$b = \frac p q$\crlf
test
\stoptext

Re: [NTG-context] Iwona-Light error

2011-02-11 Thread Tom
I just attempted to install Tex Live 2010 got a warning about a conflict
with [pdf]tex program on the Tex Live 2008 system path. 2008 still comes up
when I run Context, but the system path was automatically updated with the
install. What else must I do?

 I can't find Helvetica-Caps or Helvetica-Caps-Regular in type-one.tex, the
 only file I changed. I can't find them in the original, unchanged version
of
 the file either. I can email you the file if you'd like.

Then it is in type-tfm.tex (or something like that).

But I would advice you to install minimals in parallels (you can then
switch between both).

All you need to do is to change PATH when you want to switch. (But in
any case it might be better to use at least TeX Live 2010.)

It draws a circle, points, label, but unwanted coordinate numbers like
(60.43535, 36.97691), too.
I didn't see such numbers in any example in metafun document.

If I use z[k] like

z[k] = point i of P;
draw z[k]

Then such a long numbers disappeared.

Is it the only way to surpress those numbers not using z?

use drawdot then ... drawpoints is one of the tracing macros

unofficially yes, but officially no as it is expected when you use
'page' instead of '(' and the \at command is definitely to be downward
compatible

so, if you want it different, you need to define a reference format

Re: [NTG-context] delimitedtext, spacebefore and grid

2011-02-11 Thread Oliver Buerschaper
 I want to have both a halfline space before and after blockquotations.
 Normally, this works fine; after the quotation the main text snaps
 back to the grid (see page 3 of the example file).

 \setupdelimitedtext
 [blockquote]
 [spacebefore=halfline]

 spacebefore={force,halfline}

 Hello Wolfgang, thank you for your answer. Sadly, your solution only
 works for blockquotes starting at the top of the page. When blockquotes
 are broken up between two pages the main text doesn't find its way back
 to the grid (see page 2 of my minimal example).

 I think I've discovered another little problem of the same sort if directly
 after the quotation a blank line is requested:

 ---
 \setuplayout
[grid=yes]

 \setupdelimitedtext
[quotation]
[spacebefore=halfline]

 \showgrid

 \starttext

 \input tufte

 \startquotation
\input tufte
 \stopquotation

 \blank
 \input tufte

 \stoptext
 ---

 Unfortunately the trailing main text doesn't align with the grid either. Any
 solution to both problems?

Just wanted to ask whether anyone has looked into these issues… a solution
would be much appreciated (and put to immediate use in a current project ;-)
