[NTG-context] \startmatrix bug in beta

2011-05-17 Thread Taco Hoekwater

Hi Hans/ Aditya,

With the latest beta, \startmatrix's final \NR creates a
superfluous line, resulting in ugly output:

\starttext
\startformula
\startmatrix[left={\left(\,},right={\,\right)}]
\NC 0 \NR
\NC 0 \NR
\NC 0 \NR % removing this fixes the output
\stopmatrix
\stopformula
\stoptext

Best wishes,
Taco

[NTG-context] MP spot color in gradient - help!

2011-05-17 Thread Duncan Hothersall

 Struggling against a deadline here so apologies for no full sample.

I have a gradient fill defined using

\startuseMPgraphic{mpos:par:mylearnobj}
path p;
for i = 1 upto nofmultipars :
p := multipars[1] topenlarged 8pt bottomenlarged 8pt leftenlarged 3cm ;
color ca ; ca := \MPcolor{greenthirty} ;
color cb ; cb := \MPcolor{white} ;
sh := define_linear_shade(origin, origin shifted (120mm,0), ca, cb) ;
fill p withshade sh ;
endfor;
\stopuseMPgraphic

This works if the colour greenthirty is defined as a CMYK colour

\definecolor[TAXBgreenthirty][c=.3,m=0,y=.057,k=.069]

but, inevitably, my printer wants it defined as a spot ink, and when I
do this:

\definecolor[PantoneThreeOneFourFive][c=1,m=0,y=.19,k=.23]
\definespotcolor[TAXBgreenthirty][PantoneThreeOneFourFive][p=.3]

the gradient turns to black instead of green. (The spot colour
definition works fine in the rest of the document, just not in the
gradient fill.)

Could someone possibly let me know if it is even possible to define a
gradient using a spot colour, or if I should instead revert to some
alternative solution.

Thanks,

Duncan

I don't think so. Normally, if you use a specific color (recognizable)
the printer should be able to remap that to some spot color (at least
that is what we have done in the past, cf publisher specs).

2011-05-17 Thread Jeong Dalyoung
Dear Wolfgang,

Your animation module works really fine.
It reduces a lot of work to set the fieldstack.

I'd like to ask you a few more small things.

1) Is it possible to set the duration time in the case of autoplay?
2) The location of buttons is leftaligned when [menu=yes]. Is it what you want
or I did something wrong?
3) What is the meaning of \start and \stop in animation-1.tex?
4) In your animation-2.tex, the size of buttons can be controlled by setting
foregroundstyle. Then, how to apply it to \startanimation?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Dalyoung

2011-05-17 Thread Duncan Hothersall
 Right, thanks very much for the quick response Hans. I can remap
colours with the tools we have here, except in the case of a gradient
fill. I think I will try using a repeated graphic as a background
instead, while waiting for printer's thoughts.

Thanks,

[NTG-context] fit to width by negative letterspacing or narrowing

2011-05-17 Thread Henning Hraban Ramm

Hello again, it's been a while... ;-)

I need to pack fixed lines into a fixed width box.

Some years ago I had something similar in plain PostScript, where I
pre-calculated the width of a text box, let the default font if it
would fit my max size, otherwise try a narrow font and if that wasn’t
enough decreased font size until it would fit.

This time I've only one font and must not decrease font size, but must
use negative kerning and perhaps some artificial narrowing.

How can I do that with ConTeXt?
I use MkIV, so any Lua solution is welcome.

It’s now also part of the minimals.

 1) Is it possible to set the duration time in the case of autoplay?

I’ll add a key to change this.

 2) The location of buttons is leftaligned when [menu=yes]. Is it what you
 want or I did something wrong?

Will be fixed.

 3) What is the meaning of \start and \stop in animation-1.tex?

I added them to keep the \startMPinitializations settings local
but they are useless here because \startMPinitializations stores
the content in a global register, I’m going to remove them.

 4) In your animation-2.tex, the size of buttons can be controlled by setting
 foregroundstyle. Then, how to apply it to \startanimation?

I used animation-2.tex for a draft of the control buttons,
they are static images and don’t come from the module itself.

Control over the size of the menu etc. is still missing.
You can make a list of features you want and i take a look at it.

In PDF it’s possible, I don’t know about MP/ConTeXt.
Did you check (e.g. with Acrobat Pro) if your Black is indeed a spot
color? You may send me your PDF off-list.
Did you try defining your spot color with RGB values? (I remember I
needed that for something...)

[NTG-context] MK IV new install /Mac OS X

2011-05-17 Thread Matthias Weber
Dear all,

I've been trying to install the TeX minimals on a new Mac. While MK II works,
not so MK IV.
I get the error message MTXrun | unknown script 'context.lua' or
'mtx-context.lua'

Here is what I did:

Downloaded TeXLive 2010

Then followed the instructions at
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Minimals/Mac_Installation

I did this a few years back without a hitch, so I am wondering what is
different now.

In any case, in the above instructions, under Configuring ConTeXt, instep 4,
the copies file has already the indicated changes in it.

I used the same paths as indicated and ran luatools --generate as well as
context --make

Everything went ok without error messages. I then configured TeXShop as
explained.
As I said, MKII works fine but MKIV gives the error message.

I searched the wiki for it and there seem to be some related reports, but I
couldn't find a resolution.

Any suggestions? If all fails I'll try to clone an older installation.

I rather like the new syntax - indeed much cleaner.

(However, for compatibility issues, it might be nice to
somehow program a better error message, if possible,
so that 'externalfigure hacker.jpg;' more elegantly fails.)

In fact, '\externalfigure' in ConTeXt and 'externalfigure'
in metafun (without 'draw') can be a bit confusing, as in
\starttext
\externalfigure hacker scaled 5cm ;
\stoptext
Of course, no-one would ever admit to such foolishness.

 Any suggestions? If all fails I'll try to clone an older installation.

 What does `which context` return?

/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin/context

Great! Thus the wiki info to create
 an executable  file ConTeXt-MKIV.engine containing

#!/bin/bash
export PATH=/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-intel/bin:$PATH
export TEXMFCACHE=/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-cache
context $1

in ~/Library/TeXShop/Engines
is slightly but catastrophically outdated. The file needs to read

#!/bin/bash
export PATH=/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin:$PATH
export TEXMFCACHE=/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-cache
context $1

With that, TeXShop works with MKIV.

Thanks again !

I usually prefer the more verbose:

draw textext(\externalfigure[...]) ...

which makes things conceptually clearler.

[NTG-context] A module for generic external syntax highlighter

2011-05-17 Thread Aditya Mahajan

Hi all,

I have modularized the vim module[1] so that it is easy to reuse
components for other external syntax highlight programs. The set up for
defining a new external syntax highlighting is done in t-syntax-highlight
module, and the set up for defining a new color scheme is done in
t-syntax-groups. The vim module simply calls these modules with the
relevant setups.

These modules also use an experimental coding style for the ConTeXt code.
This is based on some discussions that we had on the list earlier. (This
style sets the catcode of : to be other; this can break existing ConTeXt
code). All modules work with both MkII and MkIV; as a result, some of the
things are more complicated than they need to be just for MkIV.

I believe that this split will make it easy to add new external programs
as syntax highlighters. The external highlighter needs to generate ConTeXt
code in a specific format:

- Start each new line with \CR{}
- Escape all \, {, and }, as \\, \{, and \}
- Group each syntax region as follows:

  \SYN[group-name]{content}

The external highlighter should also support a means of specifing the
start and stop lines to be highlighted.

At the TeX end, a new syntax highlighting module should specify the exact
external command to be called, and define color schemes (style and color)
for each of the group-name used in the \SYN command in the highlighter.

In case anyone is interested in testing a specific external highlighter,
let me know. Any other feedback is welcome.

Aditya

[NTG-context] [NTG-context] Suppress the citation number counts in the list of figures?

2011-05-17 Thread seasoul
Dear All,

I asked the same question in another post, but no replies except Thomas A.
Schmitz asked me to make an example.
In that post, I asked how to get the abosulute value of the bib entry, it is
very confusing. Therefore, I made the example as below:

 Take the sample.bib in the wiki as the database file. Based on the citation
sequence, hh2010b is expected to be the third reference, but because it is
included in the figure caption, and the figure caption will be listed in the
figure list at the beginning of the file, hh2010b becomes the first
reference. How to make it the third reference? The resulting list of figure
should be

The caption of this figure includes the citation, but this citation
sequence is expected to be the same as in the paragraph[3]

instead of

 The caption of this figure includes the citation, but this citation
sequence is expected to be the same as in the paragraph[1]

\usemodule[bib]

\setupbibtex[database=sample]%sample.bib in the wiki

\setuppublications[sorttype=cite]
