[NTG-context] Newest ConTeXt in Windows7: kpathsea60.dll is missing ?

2011-12-28 Thread Mari Voipio
So,

I went and updated my ConTeXt today as I've got nothing really
critical going on.

I'm running ConTeXt on Windows 7 (64-bit) and I used

firstsetup.bat --modules=all

to update it. Everything works fine otherwise, but during the
installation process both mpost.exe and pdftex.exe complain that The
program can't start because kpathsea60.dll is missing from your
computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I've never seen that complaint before, but now I get it consistently,
also after rebooting and updating directly after restart. Both
eventually stop complaining after I'd clicked on OK multiple times
(yes,yes, just go on, will ya).

It doesn't seem critical (I don't use MetaPost and I run MKIV anyway)
- or at least the first test file compiled without complaints, but now
I'm wondering whether my Windows has a problem (MS update related,
maybe?) or whether the Suite has a problem in Windows. And my ConTeXt
is the newest available, because I'm now running version ConTeXt ver:
2011.12.23 09:52 MKIV and that's more recent than my most recent
working day before this. :-)

Thanks,

Mari

Hi Wolfgang and John,

Both ways work well, thanks a lot! Does this mean that the setupMPpage command
will become obsolete in near future?

Are both suggestions documented somewhere or is this mailing list the only way
to find out?

It’s already obsolete as you noticed by the “undefined control sequence”
warning.

The reason for this is that \startMPpage and \startTEXpage are now defined in a
different
way than they had been in MkII. In MkII both commands are defined with
\def\startMPpage{…}
and \def\startTEXpage{…} but in MkIV both are a instance of fittingpage and the
definition
for them is \definefittingpage[MPpage] and \definefittingpage[TEXpage]. As a
consequence
the old \setupMPpage command is also gone and you have to set global settings
with
\setupfittingpage[environment][settings].

Such a changes do happen with many commands in MkIV and the setup-commands
for them are moved to the underlying mechanism (e.g. fittingpage).

As all tex related binaries come from Akira, I guess no other binaries
use an old kpse.

[NTG-context] 2UP broken or changed?

OK, back to work and I could dig deeper into the problem. It turns out
that inserting and filtering pages from a pdf file works fine and most
of imposition works out, too, and I even managed to create some fancy
folding booklets with 1*8 (thanks, Willi, for the lecture you gave at
CM4 on this stuff!), but my 2UP refuses to work.

This works:

\setuppapersize[A5][A4,landscape] %individual page A5 size, print size A4
\setuparranging[2SIDE]

\setuplayout
  [backspace=0pt,
topspace=0pt,
   width=middle,
  height=middle,
location=middle,
  header=0pt,
  footer=0pt]

\starttext

\filterpages
[maoutput.pdf][1,3,5:22][width=0pt]

\stoptext

This works, too:

\setuppapersize[A5][A3]
\setuparranging[2DOWN]

\setuplayout
  [backspace=0pt,
topspace=0pt,
   width=middle,
  height=middle,
location=middle,
  header=0pt,
  footer=0pt,
  marking=on]

\starttext

\insertpages
  [maoutput.pdf][width=0pt]

\stoptext

However, if I switch to 2UP on either (2SIDE or 2DOWN), I get ten
pages of nothing. Or rather, on the latter I get 10 pages of cut marks
as marking is on.

I'm running the newest beta, from December 23. The problem is not
critical (at least not yet), although if I get the A5 - A4 booklet to
work on ConTeXt, it'll speed up a few processes (and shorten our
printing queues...).

Thanks,

There are different ways to use MkII:

- texexec filename
- context --pdftex filename
- Use “% engine=pdftex” as first line of your document

That is expected since I take files from TL and not from the latest

You have the setting “\setupletterlayer[reference][list=reference]” before
\startletter where you change
the content of the reference line to the content of the value “reference” which
is empty.

Yes, there are changes in the module I rewrote the whole code and got rid of a
few old things
(like the \cc, \incl and \ps commands) but i added also a few new options.

 The date is in English, but I have switched the mainlanguage to German.

When I comment the mentioned line above I get “Datum” and “28. Dezember 2011”

Re: [NTG-context] \definelayout

2011-12-28 Thread Peter Park Nelson
Update with a minimal working example.

If a layout is specified for the first page
(\definelayout[first][...=...], that specification is carried on
through all subsequent pages; the layout does not return to the
default specified with \setuplayout[...=...] on the second page.

If a layout is specified for a single later page
(\definelayout[3][...=...]), that specification is carried on too. In
the case of header/footer size, the body text overruns the footer area
on subsequent pages. In the case of backspace (text width), the first
paragraph on the page with the new layout is the default layout width
but the rest are OK. (I have seen this width issue mentioned before
and it may not be possible to change this behavior, but the
header/footer size is a problem for me.)

Thanks.

 carried over to all the rest of the document.

 Here's my code:

 \setuplayout[%
  width=middle,
  backspace=15mm,
  topspace=10mm,
  height=254mm,
  header=5mm,
  headerdistance=5mm,
  footer=5mm, % Normal footer size
  footerdistance=5mm,
  grid=tolerant]

 \definelayout[first][% Larger footer on first page
  footer=15mm,
  footerdistance=5mm]

 Hi all,

 would someone please enlighten me. What is the correct usage of

 \definelayout[first]  [default][header=2cm]
 \definelayout[unknown][default]%[reset]

 \definelayout[last]   [default][footer=2cm]

 \starttext  \showframe % \checkcurrentlayout
 %% Variant A: fails with \default[unknown]
 first\page unknown=(2)\page \page unknown=(3)\page last

 %% Variant B: fails with \definelayout[2]
 % first\page unknown=(2)=last
 \stoptext

 By the way the output differs with the latest beta in comparison with the
 latest experimental.

 Hans changed part of the \setuplayout code in the last betas (there are
 more than you can see in the ctx suite).

 When context checks the layout (happens with \starttext and when it starts
 a new page) it test for the following defined layouts:

 • “pagenumber”
 • “-pagenumber”
 • “last” (is only used for the last page of the document)
 • “first” (is only used for the first page of the document)
 • “unknown”
 • “current”
 • “odd” and “even” (used for left and right pages)

 All entries in this list are reserved names but you can also define your
 own layout but in this case
 you have to enable it with \setuplayout[name].

 One of the new features in MkIV is that layout parameters can be inherited,
 e.g. when
 you define a layout with the name “one” {\definelayout[one][..,..=..,..])
 and another one with
 the name two (\definelayout[two][one][..,..=..,..]) this will take the
 values from one of there
 are nothing set for a value from one and when there is also nothing set for
 one the global
 values are used (\setuplayout[..,..=..,..]).

 Hi Wolfgang,

 I modified the example (hopefully in a meaningful manner). I get the desired
 output with the old beta, but it still fails with todays beta.

 \setuplayout [width=middle,height=middle,header=0pt,footer=0pt]
 \definelayout[first]  [header=2cm]
 \definelayout[last]   [footer=2cm]
 \definelayout[current]

 \starttext  \showframe % \checkcurrentlayout

[NTG-context] streams not working?

2011-12-28 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Hi there,

I'm trying to get some poems in a bilingual document using streams.

According to the wiki (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Columns#Streams),
this example should work:

\usemodule[streams]
\def\StartCouple{\page\SwitchToNormal}
\def\StopCouple{\SwitchToNormal\SynchronizeLeftAndRight\FlushLeftAndRight}
\def\Original{\SwitchToNormal\SynchronizeLeftAndRight\SwitchToLeft}
\def\Translation{\SwitchToRight}
\starttext
\StartCouple
\Original\en
Are you sleeping, brother John?
\Translation\de
Bruder Jakob, schläfst du noch?
\StopCouple
\stottext

But I get this error:

l.19 \defineoutputstream
 [\v!left]
! == Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!
mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 1
Compilation failed.

The example at http://source.contextgarden.net/m-streams.tex (referenced
by the wiki page) doesn't work for me either. This is all Greek to me.

What am I missing here?

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

[NTG-context] Hyphenation in Natural Table

2011-12-28 Thread Vladimir Lomov
Hello,

I want to clarify the topic: is it possible to enable hyphenation in
Natural Table? Most of full-text examples in enattab.pdf are not
hyphenated as in my (not minimal) example.

example file=table-hyphenation-test.tex
\starttext

  \bTD
  \startitemize
  \item \input tufte
  \item \input tufte
  \stopitemize
  \eTD

\eTABLE

P.S. In my real document I use Russian (\mainlanguage[ru]) and
enumeration in table, with hyphenated text document would look more
fancy.

Re: [NTG-context] Is there a replacement for \tracechinesetrue in mkiv?

2011-12-28 Thread Zhichu Chen
All right, after some readings, I came out with a node solution. The
major idea is listed below and works just fine. n from node_traverse
(head) and n.id==node.id ('glyph')

My question is: is there a better way? Because these codes are so
dirty. I prefer mplib but I have no clue how to do that.

=
  local ht,wd,dp = n.height,n.width,n.depth ;
  local rwd = .5*65536
  local k1 = node.new('kern')
  k1.kern = -wd-.5*rwd
  local r1 = node.new(rule)
  r1.width, r1.height, r1.depth = rwd, ht, dp
  local k2 = node.new('kern')
  k2.kern = -r1.width
  local r2 = node.new(rule)
  r2.width, r2.height, r2.depth = wd+rwd, ht+.5*rwd, -ht+.5*rwd
  local k3 = node.new('kern')
  k3.kern = -r2.width
  local r3 = node.new(rule)
  r3.width, r3.height, r3.depth = wd+rwd, -dp+.5*rwd, dp+.5*rwd
  local k4 = node.new('kern')
  k4.kern = -.5*rwd
  local r4 = node.new(rule)
  r4.width, r4.height, r4.depth = rwd, ht, dp
  local k5 = node.new('kern')
  k5.kern = -.5*rwd
  k1.next = r1
  r1.prev = k1
  r1.next = k2
  k2.prev = r1
  k2.next = r2
  r2.prev = k2
  r2.next = k3

[NTG-context] bug with --purgeall?

2011-12-28 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Hi there,

yesterday I ran the following command:

context --purgeall --environment=mysecondstyle.tex --mode=myexample.xml

I know that the source file is missing (I discovered it later). This is
not my issue.

The problem is that the --purgeall option caused context to erase all
.log files contained in that directory. Instead of asking for a source
file name, it deleted all .log files.

I'm afraid this is a bug, at least it shouldn't erase files that context
didn't generate.

Thanks for your help,
