Re: [NTG-context] Promotion of the ConTeXt IRC channel

2012-09-07 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
hi Sietse,

there are normally about 5-10 users online regularly, including me and
Troy, but it would be nice to meet more users there, as a fast help is
easier accomplished via IRC then ML but right ML is nice for a
searchable help and as Marco said a secondary helpsystem...

That channel was designed as a meetingpoint and should have been handed
to ConTeXt by the owners but ConTeXt itself never asked for it and so
the topic is still there as an unofficial ConTeXt source, that helped me
many times :)

So I think your idea about a regularly discussion on there concerning a
special topic would be nice, but even having more users there and
helping ppl the fast chatway would even be better and nicer too and as I
can speak for me myself it is also nice to stay conected and build
friendships easier in IRC then ML... :)

Re: [NTG-context] A series of articles about text-editors for the MAPS

2012-08-08 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
Hi Willi,

I used vim/gvim in the past and switched to emacs. I write all my stuff
with ConTeXt and with some tweaking of the commands you can also make
mkiv run inside of emacs. also nice is to write your metapost and use
the metapost mode for it that can generate a preview inside emacs for
you. Together with auctex and reftex emacs is in my opinion the best
tool for writing TeX/LaTeX/ConTeXt documents.

So setup is:

* emacs
* auctex
* ConTeXt
* reftex
* preview-latex
* etexshow (a Browser for ConTeXt commands)
* metapost-mode+ (metapost preview)
* meta-mode (for metafont and metapost)

so far the best setup I had and where I will stay :)

[NTG-context] TeXlive 2012 and letter module

2012-07-28 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
Hi followers of ConTeXt,

does something in the lettermodule in the texlive version and the
minimal version of ConTeXt has changed, as both no longer recognize the

\useletterextension[addrentry,label]
\useaddressfile[addrfile]

lines and complain about an unknown command, if yes, what would be the
way to fix this, or is this functionallity finally droped?

 But when I add the following statement:

 The run aborts with the following messages:

Hi Gerard,

that's because of a change in ConTeXts metapost, you can use

\startMPpage
Your MP Code here
\stopMPpage

MetaPost from ConTeXt is not able without big changes to run standalone,
so you might need to load the MetaPost version from TeXlive, the way how
to do so depends on your OS...

 Using bitmap (metafont) fonts in context is not really supported, I
 think. ConTeXt MkIV at least seems to actively disable the .pk bitmap
 searching in luatex.

 Are you using texlive? (the font is available as a TL package).
Nope I use the minimals for context, have TL laying around, but not
using it right now

 If so, then with an input like this

 \definefont[suetterlin][suet14 sa 1]
 \starttext
 {\suetterlin some text}
 \stoptext

 'texexec' should work more or less out of the box.

 I said more or less because on some systems automatic pk generation is
 turned off, and then you may have to call mktexpk by hand, for example:

$ mktexpk --dpi 514 --mag 12/14 --mfmode localfont suet14

Will give it a try, and hopefully it will work, but if not I hopefully
can come back here...

[NTG-context] \startcases...\stopcases alignment

2010-09-27 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
Hi everyone,

I've got one big question,

if I type something like

\startcases
\NC A \NC B\NR
\NC C \NC D
\stopcases

Both the A and B are left justified and I would like to have them
horizontally centered above the C and D. Is there a way to do so
without a matrix usage or is for that the matrix the only solution...

Greetings

[NTG-context] tex placeholder for use in metapost/metafun

2010-09-10 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
Hi everybody,

as I like to desing a CI for an publishing Cover for an Organisation, I
have a question about usage:

What I wanna do is, having placeholders in the metapost coverpage, it
should work like

\author{}
\title{}
\swlogo{}

in the preamble

and should be automatically placed in the metapost graphic at runtime

what would be the best way to do that?

I thought about

\def\author{content}

and then in metapost \btex\author\etex

but not sure if it will work, or is there a more ConTeXtian way to do
so...

Thanks for your help

 Almost all the errors in t-vim over the years have due to trying to

 the way quotes are handled by cmd.exe and the various shells in *nix. I
 still haven't figured out a syntax that works with all shells). This
 makes me wonder whether it was a good idea to make vim module work out
 of the box. Perhaps a more robust alternative was to ask the uses to
 copy 2context.vim to $HOME/.vim/scripts/ and forget about getting
 mtxrun to locate the file. What do others think?

 In the spirit of MkIV, I have attempted to redo the vim module from
 scratch.

 http://github.com/adityam/filter

 Download t-vim.tex t-filter.tex and 2context.vim. For testing just place
 them in the current directory.

 This new version is delegates the task of creating external files and
 running vim to get syntax highlighting to t-filter. It reads the file
 under a restrictive catcode regime... so 2context.vim only has to escape
 a few characters: \ { }, everything else has a catcode other (except
 space and newline which are active).

 Currently, this new module only supports

 * syntax highlighting (syntax=filetype)

 * two color schemes (alternative=pscolor and alternative=blackandwhite)

 * specifying start and stop lines (start=... , stop=...)

 An additional feature is that the module stores the md5 sums of all
 files, and runs vim only if the file has changed. So, this should be
 significantly faster than the old module.

 Difference

 * No \typevimfile... instead \definevimtyping[whatever] creates a
 command \typewhateverfile that can be used as
   \typewhateverfile[options][file]

 * Currently, no support for line numbering, although that should be easy
 to add now.

 * No support for active spaces yet.

 * Most importantly, this only runs under MkIV. That is because
 \doprocesslocalsetups is not defined in MkII.

 Hans, can you add the definition of \doprocesslocalsetups to MkII?

 I have only tested on linux. Testing on other platforms will be
 appreciated (Just run the files under test/vim/).

 Aditya

Hi Aditya,

[NTG-context] vim syntax highlighting in MKIV

2010-06-25 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
Hi Hans, Mojca, Aditya and List,

just tried to use the vim Syntax Highlighting module in ConTeXt MKIV, but
if running the documents complains it searches a file called

filename-vimsyntax.tmp-vimsyntax.tmp

sure that file not exists but there is a file called

filename-vimsyntax.tmp

is there a way to do a workaround so that the vim Syntaxhighlighting
module would work in MKIV or does it need to be rewriten completedly?

 This is a small font, so I think that it is OK to just add this to the
 minimals. Mojca, what do you think?

 That's fine with me. Just a question (I didn't check yet): is the font
 supported in ConTeXt core?

Hi Mojca,

the font is not available in ConTeXt, but it is supported, you only need
to activate it in the Document as described at http://
wiki.contextgarden.net/Doublestroke
so it is usable, but not included and I think the only nice way to get
the Doublestroked fonts done...

here is the directory for ebuilds written for funtoo to support context-

[NTG-context] context mkiv metafun

2010-02-05 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
Hi list,

another problem I encountered while installing and testing context-
minimals is that the context command is not willing in my case to
autobuild the metafun graphics I included in the document. Would be nice
if someone has an advice to me on to fix that, got it working under
texexec by creating a cont-sys.tex and linking it to the directory where
cont-sys.ori is located.

 mkii or mkiv?

 in mkii one can set the mp related directives in the cont-sys file, but
 depending on the distribution one might also need to enable write 18 in
 the config file (the used one can be found with)

 texmfstart --edit kpse:texmf.cnf
 mtxrun --edit kpse:texmf.cnf

 in mkiv things are done automatically as no external mp is used

the problem is that mkiv is not build the included metapost graphics, or
has mkiv problems concering overlays or the project structure?

 grep for texmfcnf.lua

 this is a prelude to a replacement for texmf.cnf in mkiv

Ok got this file Hans, and what would be a good replacement in there?

would it be ok to something like

return {
TEXMFCACHE = '~/.context-minimals/texmf-cache',
}
ok or is it possible to use multiple paths in that syntax like:

return {
TEXMFCACHE = 'Path1', 'Path2'
}
unfortunately on this point there is no documention I can find.

 no, for the moment just one cache path (maybe in the future more but it
 is sort of tricky as quite some version testing has to be done then so
 it's not a good idea to implement that while mkiv is in flux

Million Thanks Hans
fixed it with the userspecific pathset and works like expected. WOW cool

[NTG-context] context minimals

2010-02-01 Thread Martin 'golodhrim' Scholz
Hi Hans, hi list,

some questions for the minimals, used the texlive version up to now and
then found out that the 2k9 version of texlive has problems using context
mkii and mkiv.

so now I will start to use context from the minimals. so would be nice to
have some infos before starting. Is the howto in the contextgarden-wiki
still up to date or something needed to be changed in there?
Is the repository for the minimals only available via rsync or as git
too? And if there is no git version available is it planed to get a git
repo, or can one simply add one, as I would write an ebuild for funtoo
afterwards it would be easier for me to sync it that way, because it is
faster and only updates changes, compared to rsync.

If wished I could first make my github-account available for a git repo.
