If interaction is the important factor i suggest to add a “margin” key to the “none”, “horizontal” and “vertical” alternatives. All three support the “command” key and you can make your own layout. To add \leftskip\listparameter\c!margin to \dodofreehlistelement (like it is defined for \dodofixdlistelementABC)?
