Re: [Nuke-users] defocus seems to pop between frames
Try setting the “method” to full precision”. I have also heard that doing that help with speed as the full precision is threaded better. If that makes sense. Is this also happening with ZDefocus? If not, just use that with a constant colour in your depth channel. On 3/06/14 5:21 am, Michael Bogen wrote: Try setting the method to full precision. Re: [Nuke-users] defocus seems to pop between frames
Yes, i’ve tried using “full precision” i also didn’t mention last time that the curve for the defocus wasn’t linear, it’s slow at start then goes faster towards the end. Would this have any effect on the way the defocus is processed? Re: [Nuke-users] defocus seems to pop between frames
Some of the guys here ran into this same issue with ZDefocus awhile back when doing a tight rack-focus over a long shot. If what you’re seeing is the same issue, it comes down to Nuke effectively using a Reformat operator internally when it scales the convolve kernel (as the aperture disc changes size), and since reformats can only output at whole-pixel dimensions, you get popping as it crosses kernel sizes. Someone ended up building a replacement specifically for that situation that used a Transform to scale the kernel; it was somewhat slower, but smooth. I would definitely report what you’re seeing to The Foundry. It’s a pretty major issue to have in defocus tools. -Nathan From: Darren Coombes Sent: Monday, June 02, 2014 5:15 PM To: Nuke user discussion Subject: Re: [Nuke-users] defocus seems to pop between frames Yes, just tried with Z defocus and it is still popping. Yeah that seems to describe the problem pretty well, as it seems to pop every 70-80 frames, I tried using a convolve node and flare setup and that seems to be a whole lot smoother also.
