[nysbirds-l] Hurricane Arthur report - Nickerson Beach (Nassau Co.)
Hurricane Arthur brought in exactly one storm bird this morning: a Great Blue Heron that landed briefly on the beach before heading north toward the marshes. A Roseate Tern has been seen loafing in front of the tern colony the last two days, and a pair of Gull-billed Terns were hawking above the colony yesterday. Beside a few late scoters, a female Red-breasted Merganser, and a female Long-tailed Duck that have been around occasionally, there has not been much else of note. [nysbirds-l] Peregrine Falcon Fledglings - Midtown Manhattan
Yesterday I saw four Peregrines flying as a group over the Met Life Building as seen from the west edge of the Great Lawn near the southern steps. If two of the birds were adults this would mean there are at least two young Peregrines. Checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S18981503 The Peregrine nest box is on the south side closer to the west edge of the Met Life Building, above Grand Central Terminal in midtown, and was attended to by the adults over the summer and the territory was held over the winter. This is a long established nesting site for this species. -- Ben Cacace Manhattan, NYC -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
