[nysbirds-l] Ross's Gull Phone Message 2/23/17

2017-02-23 Thread Joan Collins
Hi Everyone,

I was out guiding today and just received my home phone messages - one of
them was from a cell phone number that I don't recognize. It was a man who
said the Ross's Gull was back on Simon Pond today! He mentioned that it
flew toward the Piercefield Flow. (A few of us wondered if that was where
it went - we checked the Setting Pole Dam area several times, but no luck.
Most of the Piercefield Flow area is inaccessible.) The man didn't leave
his name and I haven't been able to reach him at his cell number. I'll keep
trying. His call came in at 2:30 p.m. Very exciting news!

Fwd: [nysbirds-l] Clarks Grebe YES

2017-02-23 Thread Andrew Baksh
Good Evening Peeps,

Menachem's + post on the Clarke's Grebe ended up again in my junk mail so I am
forwarding his post to the list serves (see below). It followed an earlier
negative post from him, so the folks who re-found the bird put in some work and
deserve a shout out for their persistence.

Please post both negative or positive to both list serves if twitching tomorrow.

Cheers,

[nysbirds-l] eBird.org: Recent Additions to County Checklists

2017-02-23 Thread Ben Cacace
When working on the NYS eBird Hotspots wiki I'll compare the previous bar
chart list of species with the current one picking up any additions or
deletions. By going to each county's 'Overview' page you can determine the
date the species was added by county. Some are from newly submitted
checklists from many months / years ago.

It isn't possible to spot these additions from old checklists. On the
'Overview' page you can sort on 'First Seen' but if the species wasn't
added recently it won't appear at the top of the list.

For each county on the wiki click the 'Overview' link on the 'Explore a
Location' line:

Yellow highlights a species added for the first time over the past few
months.

*Nassau County:*
Rufous Hummingbird (7-Oct-2016)

*Rensselaer County:*
Ross's Goose (9-Jan-2017)

*St. Lawrence County:*
Thayer's Gull (18-Feb-2017)

*Wayne County:*
Thayer's Gull (21-Jan-2017)

[nysbirds-l] Lapland Longspurs, Razorbills

2017-02-23 Thread Pepaul
I'm looking at three Lapland Longspurs in a mixed snow bunting and Horned Lark
flock in front of the Theodore Roosevelt nature center at jones beach, Nassau
county. One of the Longspurs is a breeding plumaged male.
Earlier today, I had two Razorbills off the jetty.

Good birding,
Tripper

Fw: [nysbirds-l] Clarks Grebe NO

2017-02-23 Thread Menachem Goldstein
Echoing the earlier reports, Eric Sibbald, Jeremy Collison and I spent the
morning (7:45 until 1:00) birding the various vantage points in Oswego Harbor
with no success in refunding yeaterday's Clark's Grebe.   Consolation birds
include a Red-necked Grebe, both loons, Glaucous Gull and Rough-legged Hawk.
Hope it will be refound.
Good Birding,
Menachem
