2017.
Highlights--BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONSNOW GOOSECACKLING

SANDPIPERLONG-BILLED DOWITCHERSHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERBAIRD’S 
SANDPIPERWHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERWILSON’S PHALAROPEPHILADELPHIA VIREOGRAY-CHEEKED 
THRUSHPHILADELPHIA VIREOFOX SPARROWPINE SISKIN

Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)
     18 species of shorebirds were reported from the complex this week.      
9/25: A WILSON’S PHALAROPE was seen at the Visitor’s Center. It was seen 
through the 27th.     9/30: 15 species of waterfowl were seen along the 
wildlife Drive including an EURASIAN WIGEON, a CACKLING GOOSE and 5,600 
NORTHERN PINTAIL. A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was seen at the Visitor’s Center. 15 more 
shorebird species were seen along the Wildlife Drive including both DOWITCHERS, 
both BLACK-BELLIED and AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS  and a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER.   
  10/1: A SNOW GOOSE was seen at the Visitor’s Center. A BLACK-CROWNED 
NIGHT-HERON was seen along the Wildlife Drive. An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was 
again seen at Benning Marsh.

Onondaga County
     9/27: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen along the Creek Walk near 
Hiawatha Boulevard in Syracuse. A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen on Schlicht Road 
near Fabius.     9/29: 5 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES were reported from the Radisson 
River Park south of Phoenix.

Oswego county
     10/1: 2 early FOX SPARROWS were reported from the Great Bear Recreation 
Area north of Phoenix.

Madison county
     9/27: A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was seeb at Woodman Pond north of Hamilton.    
 9/30: A SANDHILL CRANE and 3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were seen at the Sky High 
Sod Farm north of Chittenango.      10/1: A SANDHILL CRANE was again seen at 
the Sod farm.

Oneida County
     9/27: A PINE SISKIN was reported on Hardscrabble Road south of Cassville.

I had nothing else to do so went back to Montauk (I have a summer house in
east hampton). Brown Booby still present occassionally feeding.
