Re: [nysbirds-l] Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher at Wave Hill?

2022-10-09 Thread Phillip Magnussen
Unfortunately, Jennifer, you reference an exclusively NYC-based Groupme and
a largely useless Long Island-based WhatsApp Group.

This is a state-wide list and, as you might imagine, this is a bird which
people beyond the confines of the NYC-metro area might want to see!

Would you suggest it sufficient if this bird were in Buffalo and the
information only circulated among Western-NY lists, through applications
many birders may not even utilize!? I would think the greater issue is NYC
birders forgetting that the state is not 5-counties wide.

I, like many people, received information about this bird by Mr. Block’s
post. As this bird is of obvious interest to people beyond even the limits
of this state, I think using the broadest listserve possibly should not be
discouraged; but rather highly encouraged!

I dare not shame but if this list is not good enough for a sulphur-bellied
flycatcher than what on Earth is it for?

Re: [nysbirds-l] Sands Point Preserve (Nassau) inc Lincoln's Sparrow

2017-09-23 Thread Phillip Magnussen
Might I ask what on Earth it is you're doing wasting the entire State of
New York's birding community's internet bandwidth by making this comment?
Perhaps if these "night goggles" are indeed tangible objects I suggest
applying them before venturing out to Jones Beach before sunrise; maybe you
will properly observe Black-throated Green Warblers that way.
I hope I didn't select "reply all" as you did.

[nysbirds-l] Cackling Goose - Suffolk Co. (Caumsett SP)

2016-10-30 Thread Phillip Magnussen
Good day!
This morning, in a fruitless attempt to re-find yesterday's Cattle Egret at
Caumsett Historic State Park, in Suffolk Co., I came across a single
Cackling Goose in a flock of approximately 200-300 Canada Geese. The
modest gaggle was foraging in the field(s) just north of the riding stables.

Re: [nysbirds-l] Upland Sandpiper

2016-04-05 Thread Phillip Magnussen
Good Day:
The upland sandpiper continues in the same spot as reported earlier by
Robert P. It is worth mentioning that this bird is very contently foraging
in the median and may indeed continue as folks get off work, etc.
This bird can potentially be enjoyed by many people as long as long as it
not flushed. The bird is very comfortable with cars, but as people exit
their cars or walk up on the grass, the bird either gets nervous and flies,
or runs to the other side of the median.
I would recommend staying in cars as much as possible.
