RE:[nysbirds-l] Pileated Woodpecker hole?

2015-02-14 Thread Rich Perkins / TAM
Hi again,

Thanks for all the feedback on the pictures. I received about 12 emails and
everyone thought it was a Pileated Woodpecker hole. Some had complete
certainty! We'll go back tomorrow and see if we have any luck finding it!!

If you have any further feedback or comments please send.

Thank you.

Subject: Pileator Woodpecker hole?

Aidan and I were walking in Avalon Preserve today in Stony Brook, NY and
came across two fresh holes in a dead tree. It really looks like something
a Pileated Woodpecker would make. Does anyone have any thoughts on what
this hole could be if not a Pileated? Below is a link to the picture on
Flicker.

Thanks,

[nysbirds-l] Bohemian Waxwing - No

2015-01-16 Thread Rich Perkins / TAM
Hi all,

We have been getting a lot of emails from people inquiring the status of the
Bohemian and hoping to come and see it. Unfortunately, we have not seen the
bird since late morning on Sunday. We have been looking daily and a few
other birders have come and tried as well but at this point he seems to have
moved on along with the robins he had been with. If there are any sightings
we will certainly advise and would be happy to have people come look.

[nysbirds-l] Cupsogue - Sandwich Tern & Marbled Godwits

2014-08-24 Thread Rich Perkins / TAM
We hit Cupsogue Beach for low tide birding this morning. We saw three
Marbled Godwits along with a Black Skimmer (and many other shore birds) out
on the flats. We then headed over to the East Side Inlet Jetty and saw 7
Horned Larks in a grassy area. We then went over to the jetty and looked
into inlet. Right below us (15 feet) was a Sandwich Tern feeding on the
rock/sand area which are exposed at low tide. Sandwich Tern had a black
crown with signature black bill with 'Mustard' tip.
