[nysbirds-l] Back yard Kentuck Warbler
Since friday I have had 4 brief visits from a Kentucky Wabler to my back yard in East Meadow. Not sure where the bird is spending of the rest of the time but my house borders the East Meadow Jewish center. I have a small waterfall/pond that often pulls in migrants for a quick visit. An ovenbird has also been lingering for several days. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[nysbirds-l] East Meadow Raven
Over past few months I have been hearing occational croaking and just catching glimpses of large black bird. Today all doubt was erased. The raven was perched on top of a Pine tree near East Medow Jewish Center. Stayed for about 15 minutes croaking and preening then flew off. [nysbirds-l] Hempstead Lake Park Warblers
Stopped by on my lunch break this afternoon. There was a swarm of warblers at the north west corner of the south pond. I saw dozens of Black and Whites, several chestnut sided and a few oven birds. Also many Magnolia, Northern Parula, Black Throated Blue and Blackpolls and of course the Yellow Rumps abound. Highlight for me was a Nashville Warbler who came down low to give great views. Other birds included Ruby Throated Hummingbird and Scarlet Tananger. No sign of the Cerulian I saw there on Wednesday. Also had a Turkey Vulture Flighing low and getting chased away by crows. Only spent half an hour there today so there so I probably missed a few gems. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[nysbirds-l] Bald Eagles - Peregrine Falcon Hempstead Lake State Park
Spotted both a mature and immature Bald Eagle at HLSP today. They seem to be prefer the northern most edge of the lake and the lake just north of the Southern State Parkway. The eagles got into a bit of an aerial display and were actually locking talons. Pretty cool to see over a nassau county lake. Also perched at the same lake was a Peregrine Falcon. Later we visited Jones beach and got the Northern Shrike at the West End 2. It was in the lone bare tree close to the south western edge of the parking lot. We then scoped a Snowy Owl a little further east. Not a bad day of birding. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[nysbirds-l] Bald Eagle - Hempstead Lake State Park
My sons and I obseved an adult Bald Eagle on the north side of the resevoir on debris or stump on the water and later at the small lake north of the Southern State Parkway perched in the trees. This is the first eagle I have seen in Nassau County that was not a fly over. Great to share it with my kids.
