[nysbirds-l] A.M. yea _ P.M. nay

2013-12-13 Thread robert adamo
This morning between doctor's appointments in Riverhead, I stopped at
Merritt's Pond. The usual geese & ducks were present, plus a group of 15
Snow Geese, 3 of which, were blue morphs. Looking upon this as the A.M's.
2nd of 3 good signs (both check-ups OK) I headed down to gyrfalcon
territory, and thereby giving a new meaning to "heading south" ! Checking
every likely spot (in view) from the Ocean Pkwy entrance to the Cedar Beach
Marina, I struck out ! Finding Bill Hanley & Pat Santinello there, I soon
learned of their present and earlier misses at Gilgo, etc. Not having much
time to linger, I, along with Pat, headed west in hope of getting both the
falcon, and possibly the N.Shrike. Well, the "Friday the 13th"
mumbo-jumbo kicked in, as we continued to be almost shut-out. An adult
Peregrine Falcon on an Osprey platform w/o the Gilgo Beach Marina kept us
from being "horse-collared" ! Returning to the CBM, we found Bill still
there, in addition to 3 other birders...all of whom were sharing our lack
of luck ! I left soon after, hoping I could be their sacrificial lamb !

Cheers,
Bob!
