I just saw ( and took photos) of two male common Eiders today  at 5PM at 
Shinnecock Inlet, Long Island, NY

[nysbirds-l] Common Eiders on the North Fork

[WILLIAM SINGER]

At Orient State Park this morning, Monday, we saw two Common Eiders.  They
were on the Gardiner's Bay side of the causeway, about 100 years east of
the ranger's station.  When we saw them they were quite close to shore, and
in the company of a Surf Scoter.
