>From the observer of the shrike.

Hi there Willie,

Thanks for the email, it would be great if you could get a chance to see it,
or even photograph it.

So I looked on Google maps, since I am not that familiar with the area and I
talked to my friend who was with me to try to pinpoint where we saw it. You
are right, that area is too built up and I was being too general. It
actually was closer to Braddock Bay Park. I had visited the park (they have
a hawk lookout there).and was getting on the ramp of Lake Ontario State
Parkway from Manitou Road towards Rochester. The bird surprised me because
it was hovering like a hummingbird over some tall grass. I pulled over on
the turn of the road/ramp and watched it hover for a little bit. Once it saw
me, it looked right at me, seemed to flip it's tail and then swooped over
and up onto a nearby low shrub branch. I watched it there for a while until
it flew further into the brush.

A local birder told me that one had been seen in the area last month and
that people had blogged about it, so I thought it might be of interest to
the group!

I'd love to know if you do get a chance to see it!

Wishing you well,

Michelle

Willie,

I received the e-mail below over the weekend. Michelle said she was not able
to post her observation to Genesee Birds as she is not a member, but would
be fine if you could do so. It would seem likely that this was the same
shrike. have you heard of any additional sightings?

Hello Paul,

I spotted a beautiful hovering Loggerhead Shrike near the entrance onto Lake
Ontario State Parkway near Ontario Beach Park on Thursday afternoon around 3
pm. It was hovering over something in the tall grass, much like a
hummingbird, then tipped down and flew up onto a short tree.

I wonder if this is the same one that was seen last month?

Michelle
