[nysbirds-l] Jones Beach strip to Robert Moses SP
Feb 9, 2015 Joe Giunta and I (Sy Schiff) took an afternoon drive along the parkway to Captree. The roads were clear and all parking lots were free of ice and snow. At Captree we fond a dozen BOAT-TAILED GRACKLES in the shrubbery on the side of the parking lot just past the boats. Form there we went over to Robert Moses SP and found approx. 40 HORNED LARKS, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPUR and 1 SNOW BUNTING feeding on the traffic circle as you enter field #5.. Traveling home (west) along the strip, we saw 2 NORTHERN HARRIES and a hovering dark phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, It was just east of Jones Beach field #6.. We stopped by Pt. Lookout on our way, but never left the 4-wheel SUV. The entire parking lot was a sheet of ice and totally impassible on foot. Looked for but: did not find the Zamboni.
