Re: [nysbirds-l] Tree swallows
I also saw large groups of Tree Swallows passing over Southold NY here on the North Fork of LI earlier today. It must be their last hurrah while heading south. [nysbirds-l] Tree Swallows (6) at Black Rock Park, Croton and Eagle Numbers
Six tree swallows were observed late this morning at Black Rock Park, Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County. Observed for 30+ minutes swooping over same small area of the Croton River. Perhaps getting an early aquatic insect hatch of some sort? Seems rather early for that (and the swallows.) Link to video clip via iPhone/scope: http://vimeo.com/87688634 Great views also this morning at Black Rock of three immature and 1 adult bald eagle successfully fishing in same area. Earlier in the morning, a total of 17 bald eagles were seen perched in different areas of Croton Point Park, 5 adults, 12 immature. [nysbirds-l] Tree Swallows at Jones Beach/West End (Nassau Co.)
While birding down at West End this morning, Sue and i observed three Tree Swallows flying west of the entrance to the Coast Guard Station over the dunes and parkway. Also present was a calling Killdeer, while the two plovers (Piping and Semipalmated) continue at the north end of the West End jetty. A single Razorbill was in the inlet. Viewing conditions on the ocean and inlet were poor, owing to the strong winds and choppy seas.
