RE: [nysbirds-l] Virginia's Warbler @ Alley Pond Park Queens County (YES) reported by another birder....

2012-12-03 Thread Steve Walter
Updated the map once again to show approximate locations of sightings Nov.
28 (one of), Dec. 2, and today. I have marked December dates as Dn. I'm
thinking that Andrew was not including today's sighting in the range
expansion. If I'm interpreting it correctly, it's between previous
locations. One thing I have concluded by looking at the latest map - there
are about 15 Virginia's Warblers in the park. No, that's not right. Then
even I would be seeing Virginia's Warbler. Well, I picked the wrong spot at
1:00 today, except if I embrace the consolation prizes - a pair of ravens
flying roughly over "PB" and a Red Bat flying for an extended period of time
over the ball field at D2. If interested, pictures can be seen at
http://www.stevewalternature.com/ on the birds recent work page. I know it's
not a bird, but close enough. It felt like trying to photograph swifts.

Congratulations Mr. Taylor!

Birders, please see Mr. Taylor's note (see below), on where the Virginia's
Warbler was seen today at Alley Pond Park.

Based on recent reports, this bird has really expanded its feeding range.
Perhaps a good strategy when searching in groups would be to split up and
take chunks of the areas it has been reported recently.

Keep those reports coming, there are many birders who have tried several
times and still have not seen it yet.

Good Birding!

Hi,

I am thinking of trying for the Virginia's Warbler on Wednesday (5th December),
this will be my first opportunity since it was found to get there. If anyone
else is thinking of trying that day, send me an email as it seems like team
work may be the best option.

All the best,

Pete
