Re: [OSGeo Oceania] [FOSS4G-Oceania] FOSS4G Global: Call for Oceania Committee

2023-12-11 Thread Andrew Harvey via Oceania
Hi Alex,

There was a back to back FOSS4G and SotM in 2022 in Firenze, Italy, and another
one proposed for 2023 (that didn't go ahead).

I don't know when the Call for Venues will be open for SotM 2025 but previously
it's been between March and June the year prior.

We are certainly overdue for a global SotM conference in this region, and I
would be ecstatic to see it happen.

Re: [OSGeo Oceania] [EXT] Re: OSGEO Oceania SIG Charters (OSM and QGIS)

2020-12-04 Thread Andrew Harvey
Thanks for putting this together Ed.

In my opinion the SIG should not claim or strive to be some kind of
overarching body for OSM in Oceania, rather it should sit alongside all
other OSM parties including individual contributors and the wider
community. Participation in the SIG should be optional for the OSM
community and the SIG should not be an arbitrator for the community.

So while the SIG can set it's own strategic directions and undertake
activities to deliver on those goals, it shouldn't dictate that others in
the community need to follow this.

Even if the SIG wanted to go further, it simply doesn't have any authority
to, so I think this needs to be very clear in the scope.

I'll make a few more comments on the doc.

Re: [OSGeo Oceania] Fiji's - Letter of Intent - FOSS4G SotM Pasifika 2020

2019-09-10 Thread Andrew Harvey
> FOSS4G Pasifika 2020

For clarification, is the intent to host a joint FOSS4G + SotM conference
or just FOSS4G? The letter of intent sometimes drops the SotM component
other times includes it so just looking to clarify this please.

[OSGeo Oceania] OSGeo Oceania's OSMF Local Chapter Application

2019-08-15 Thread Andrew Harvey
Hi all,

OSGeo Oceania has put together the OSMF Local Chapter application, it's now
being presented back to the community for any final feedback or thoughts
before being submitted to OSMF.

I'll leave this for at least a week for any comments or feedback before we
actually submit this to OSMF.

[OSGeo Oceania] Organisation Constitution

2019-08-08 Thread Andrew Harvey
I only just noticed the constitution now,
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kakpBuOsF6ObF4IiUVSA2PRI3-7Asy7P/view I
had a few questions.

- Is the company a non-profit? I couldn't find anything in the constitution
to this affect. Ho

- The objective is overly broad "Promoting the study, education and
appreciation of professionals involved in scientific and professional
service pursuits." I would have though the constitution cemented the
organisation as being about promoting free and open source geospatial
software and data.
