I don't think this is a bug, as far as I remember we never had scrollwheel
changing the page, because if we do, then people complain about it because they
never can read properly the end of the page because a bit more of scrollwheel
changes the page.

In my opinion, at most this would be a wish, but would need some real thinking
on how to implement it properly so that it's not horrible to use.

Sorry, but you're asking for something super strange, I see no reason at all
why we would add such an option to Okular.

(In reply to shenlebantongying from comment #0)
> Okular can remember the lasted opened position (i think?),

Yes, not only the last position. Okular stores the viewport history in XML
files, usually under ~/.local/share/okular/docdata/. It should be possible to
parse these, although not very convenient.

> Scripting a GUI application!
>
> I might be the only want this :/

No, this is one use case for D-Bus. You can try the application d-feet to look
which D-Bus methods are available in Okular. For example, you can query the
currentPage() method. Of course, you need to query it before Okular is closed.

> Does Okualr can be used as a KPart?

Yes, the okularpart component, which is used by the “Okular” desktop
application, is actually a KPart in a shared library. It provides the same
currentPage() method.

I assume you mean the annotation toolbar like the one visible here:
https://invent.kde.org/websites/okular-kde-org/-/raw/fd23b5175e04452ebe9daf29711833465c075f52/static/images/screenies/okular-annotations-main.png

Since Okular 20.08 the old annotation toolbar
(https://invent.kde.org/websites/okular-kde-org/-/raw/e8194614e0d08099236a0a760a6aebfc05da2226/images/screenies/okular-annotations.png,
the vertical bar with 8 buttons) was replaced by the new toolbar.

The new toolbar is a “native” toolbar with QActions, which do not have support
for double-click. Therefore, there is now a button that looks like a pin needle
for this feature. (In the first image the right-most button.)

---

Anyway, if you think the double-click behavior is missing now, we will be happy
about your feedback. :)

No, this shouldn't be a standalone application.

If you already have an existing solution for bibliography management, like
Zotero, you don't want to duplicate the functionality.

I want to automate the reading progress over my large pile of PDFs.

I need the ability to let my other programs know where I read the last page
when close the PDF.

Okular can remember the lasted opened position (i think?), but I want to have a
bird-overview of my reading progress on all my PDFs.

If I can the last page of reading from `stdout` when I exit Okular, I can
automatically put that value into my databases.

What if, let's say `Okular --log nice.pdf`, then I can open okular via a script
then send the value to database. Scripting a GUI application!

I might be the only want this :/

Probably this should be made as a standalone application.

Does Okualr can be used as a KPart?

So I installed the dependencies and tried to build okular-mupdf-backend (from
git master), but it fails with some "Variable not declared in this scope"
error. Also there have been no commits to the repository since a year. Is this
backend still functional?

I guess you are referring to
https://invent.kde.org/sandsmark/okular-mupdf-backend ? The thing is, there are
multiple unofficial Okular MuPDF generators around...
Moreover, why is this not officially part of Okular and not packaged in Debian,
Ubuntu, and KDE Neon?
