Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Title Control Number (TCN)

2010-02-18 Thread Jason Etheridge
Is there any way possible to display the field 001 (Control No.),

Hi Joel, display it where?

and is there a way I can modify it if I don’t want it to be automatically
 generated for a particular Bib.

I don't think Evergreen mucks with the 001 field normally, but you
could certainly setup a database trigger to modify or insert one as
needed.

record or does Evergreen use a different MARC field for the TCN?

Evergreen keeps an internal record id for each bib, which is exposed
in the staff client in a few places as Record ID. It also tracks a
TCN value and TCN source, but does this outside of the MARC record
itself. There is a list of tags in the MARC that Evergreen will look
at when deciding upon an external TCN value, but if that value becomes
auto-generated, it is not going to be inserted back into the MARC by
default.

When exporting records from Evergreen, the record id, TCN source, and
TCN value is usually written to a 901 or 903 tag with various
subfields, though I forget the specifics.

I am also looking for some quick tips on setting up VuFind as an alternative
OPAC for Evergreen if anyone is able to help.

I don't think anyone has written a connector yet, but you could use
the extras/fast_extract script for producing a periodic dump of bib
records for VuFind to ingest. There are lots of API's that a
connector could use for finding things like item status, etc. Someone
just needs to do the work.

Hope this helps!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] New Evergreen released -- Version 1.6.0.2

2010-02-18 Thread Duimovich, George
Hello Mike,

Will the Staff Clients need to be upgraded to 1.6.0.2 version to be compatible
with an 1.6.0.2 server upgrade, or can we continue to use 1.6.0.0 clients post
upgrade for a while. Helpful for us to know in advance since we'd have to
coordinate deployments of staff client upgrades with certain of our branch
locations.

Thx,

George

George, the 1.6.0.0 and 1.6.0.1 clients should be fine. My general
goal has been to keep the client compatible with the server within a
given major branch, like 1.4.x, 1.6.x, etc.
