[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Drupal vs. Joomla
Hi all, We're one of the Pennsylvania public libraries that are transitioning from III Millennium to Evergreen within the next year. Our website is built on Joomla, which I'm happy with and have been using forever (since it was Mambo!). But I've put off for far too long migrating to J 1.5. Is it worth considering biting the bullet and migrating to Drupal instead? It would be a lot of work, but it seems like the Evergreen community, as well as the library world in general, sees Drupal as the CMS of choice. I saw the Drupal module which authenticates against Evergreen, which could be incredibly useful. Opinions/advice? Thanks in advance! -- -- Hilary Caws-Elwitt, Systems Public Services Librarian Community Information Network Administrator/Programmer Susquehanna County Library, 2 Monument Sq, Montrose PA 18801 Phone 570-278-1881 -- Fax 570-278-9336 i...@susqcolibrary.org -- http://www.susqcolibrary.org i...@susquehannacin.net -- http://www.susquehannaCIN.net
Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Drupal vs. Joomla
Hilary, For what it's worth, I have been evaluating our options here, and I believe we will be going with Drupal as well. Whether we go with Evergreen or another ILS, Drupal seems to be better-supported interacts with more software than Joomla. Plus, there's plenty of reference material out there to use. [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Conference 2012 Planning
Hello Everyone - Believe it or not it is time to think about site selection for the 2012 conference!! I have volunteered to co-Chair the 2012 site selection committee. Ben Hyman (BC Sitka) has offered to co-Chair the committee with me. We both come with experience from the last round and enthusiasm to get the ball rolling for 2012. I include here a link to the process document that the last committee worked out. It should give you an idea of the task ahead. In a nutshell, the committee will put out a call for proposals and then do some evaluation based on requirements, desirable qualities and hosting repsonsibilites listed in the process document. http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=eg09:conference_nominations Feel free to respond to this note with questions that you think might help anyone interested in volunteering for this committee, otherwise email me and Ben offlist, just don't want to clutter up the mailing list too much. Cynthia Williamson: crwbookg...@gmailcom Ben Hyman: ben.hy...@gov.bc.ca I will keep everyone up to date as the process goes along. We're still working out timelines, so I'm not sure exactly how long things will take but I'm hoping to get this done fairly quickly. Hint, hint, those of you thinking about making a bid - start your engines!! We're hoping to have 6 or 8 folks at most on the committee, we'd like some representation across the EG community, otherwise we'll take things on first come first served basis, please volunteer by Friday, May 14th at midnight if you're interested in helping out. Cheers, Cynthia Cynthia Williamson Mohawk College Hamilton, ON
Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Drupal vs. Joomla
Hello Hillary, Most of the high profile projects I follow are Drupal based (XC Catalog, SOPAC 2.0, Islandora etc.) and everybody I know who is running Evergreen and who is using (or considering using) one of those two systems has selected Drupal. I do know for sure there are at least 5+ Evergreen libraries that also use Drupal, so personally I'd see more happening with Evergreen + Drupal.
