[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Website Group
Wanna have some fun? The Evergreen Website group, a sub-group of the Evergreen Web Planning Team, is looking for some volunteers. Our group met for the first time last Wednesday, January 26th, to discuss our approach to improving the existing Evergreen website. This group was created to assist the site's webmasters in their on-going effort to keep the current site up-to-date with the latest information. One of our goals is to help the user find what it is they're looking for when visiting the site. Currently we are undertaking an inventory of the website to see how many of the Web Planning Team's user story requirements (http://www.evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=webteam.user_stories_2011) can be found on the existing site. So far, we are finding quite a bit! Our group is a small one (Anoop Atre, Kathy Lussier, and me) so there is room for more if you'd like to help out! The notes from last week's meeting can be found here: http://www.open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=evergreen_website_group:notes:2011-01-26 If you're interested in joining us, send me an email at terl...@biblio.org. Our next meeting is this Thursday, February 3rd, 11:30 EST. [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Importing MFHD Holdings
Hello, I'm currently in the process of setting up a test instance of Evergreen. I have successfully loaded some bibliographic records, and I am now attempting to load the associated holdings (standard MFHD records). It seems like some of the Equinox migration tools are designed to help with this task: http://git.esilibrary.com/?p=migration-tools.git;a=summary Unfortunately, I'm not having much luck finding documentation or examples on how to proceed with these tools -- I gather that the extract_holdings tool is the one I'm after, but it requires an Equinox::Migration::SubfieldMapper map file, and I'm not sure how to build such a file. Are examples available anywhere? Is there documentation beyond the minimal perl-doc? Is there another approach I should be considering? Thanks in advance for your help -- any leads are greatly appreciated! - Demian

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] cash and Evergreen
I would be interested in hearing about the ways that other Evergreen libraries handle money taken in from copier and FAX use by people who do not have a library card. Do you run those charges through Evergreen in some way (generic accounts, etc.), or handle it separately? Is there a way to generate a receipt for cash taken without having to bill a generic account and then pay it? We are trying to streamline and improve our cash handling procedures. Hrmm, I think anything done here is going to be kludgy, since Evergreen wasn't intended to be a point-of-sale system. One kludge I can think of is to create a new billing type like revenue goal or sale buffer that you can exclude from reports, and then bill a generic account with it for a large amount of money. Use that account for any money received without a library card and make annotated payments toward that bill. Fake accounts are a road to ruin, though. :-) -- Jason Etheridge | VP, Tactical Development | Equinox Software, Inc. / Your Library's Guide to Open Source | phone: 1-877-OPEN-ILS (673-6457) | email: ja...@esilibrary.com | web: http://www.esilibrary.com
